The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Introduces Kraven The Hunter

By Ishaan . January 23, 2014 . 9:44am

Activision have shared a trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the upcoming game based on the movie of the same name. Making his debut in the game will be Kraven the Hunter, one of Spider-Man’s better-known villains, and he’s in the trailer, too.

Like the first game, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be inspired by its movie counterpart, but will be set in its own continuity, and will introduce events and villains not seen in the movie. Part of the game will involve the player taking on investigations as Peter Parker.

Manhattan will return as the game’s locale once more, and will be a free-roaming environment like it was in the first game.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The game will be available this spring.

I really enjoyed the first one. Just there wasn’t enough zest in the side quests and there didn’t seem to be that many (I completed them all pretty quickly). The car chases were repetitive and boring. Though the attacking with objects was fun. The epic dumpster QTE was my fave.

As long as Peter Parker is played by Sam Riegal, then I shall buy

I’m sorry to say this but the first one was horrible… I doubt this is going to be any better.

Just like in films, the Spider-man IP needs a better handler.

I think Michael Bay would do excellent things to spiderman, he’ll be sort of the director what the franchise needs.

      • British_Otaku

I’ve only heard bad things about Michael Bay and I’m not fond of the choices (from humans having such a heavy focus to the faces and mouths) he made for Transformers which is more or less JUST about empty clashes between two ideals with some characters with additional charm or who scheme.

It is for the best if Bay creates his own movies if he isn’t going to follow the canon to a T or find/make a fine spin of the canon which doesn’t make people cry out that their childhoods are ruined en masse.

      • Lynx

        Micheal Bay on special effects?
The movies would probably look kind of awesome.

        As a director or producer…….

        Oh god no.

Did you think about me when you wrote this, Ishaan?

Anyways, I didn’t bother with the first game. Was not a fan of the camera being zoomed so close to me. Combat wasn’t as fun too to be honest. Web of Shadows nailed the gameplay.

Funny how every game states their Manhattan is bigger than the previous installments. But this looks better than the first game. I’m gonna give this a try. At least webs stick to buildings. I need to see definitive gameplay before I make more judgements.

The first one was good, reviewed pretty well too. Hopefully this one is a lot better with next gen tech.

    • British_Otaku

The best Spiderman games with a open city were Spiderman 2 on PS2 tech – a rushed movie title – and Web of Shadows – at least Spider-Man said so…

Next Generation technology is probably just a sign that they will waste effort on catching up with those two games with fancy trailer visuals only to make a rough game and have the PS3/360/Wii U versions be Spider-Man 3 Wii/PS2 esque shovelware.

      • KnifeAndFork

Ultimate Spider-Man was good and unlike those two, doesn’t look as dated because of the cel shaded comic art style.

Wish more Western developers (besides Borderlands) would try that approach…

        • British_Otaku

I have Ultimate Spiderman (not finished) but for some reason forgot about it. The visual style was really strong, but something about the swinging (a double jump?), world and combat didn’t click with me.

It was definitely a strong contender if the swinging was building and anchor based like I remember. That makes two old PS2 games which will probably make this game look awful.

We need more celshaded comic aesthetics in games for sure, I remember one of the older Beenox Spidey games looking nice… The one with 4 Spideys of something… Spidies?

          • DarkLight

            Spider man Shattered Dimensions.

    • KnifeAndFork

Think the main issue people were upset about was the web slinging. Previous games perfected it so there was no reason to take a step or two backwards in design and quality…

      • subsamuel01

The game needed a lot of polish, I think this time around it will be a lot better.

        • British_Otaku

The cross generation thing (and increasing budgets) is probably a good reason why it won’t be a lot better… On paper, the first Spiderman open world game should be easy to surpass, from movement to combat just because of more time to develop and a more free budget presumably or just working off the previous engine to make a better game.

It hasn’t really happened and Spiderman 3 and other cross generation licensed games have a tough time getting to be good… >_>

      • DaiRaiOh

I’d rather they just combine Ultimate’s web-slinging with the whole lockon system they had in Amazing. It would make sense and give everybody an option and add some precision to web zipping at least

  • Rohan Kishibe

I wonder if they’ll port it to the Vita like the first one.

    • Valtiel Ikari

if they do, they should make a proper port, the first one was shaby on vita

  • Lynx

Well, can’t say I saw this coming.

Because I didn’t. Kraven’s one of the characters that ‘s rarely ever used in games.

  • grevlinghore

I´m kinda interested in this now. Spider Man is pretty much the only superhero I ever cared about. Also, I seem to vaguely recall Kraven being in a GBA Spider Man title called Mysterio´s Menace? Haven´t played it in ages – maybe I´ll pick it up again :p

  • Vash bane

I might be confusing this but this makes it sound like he is training spidey

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. This game looks like it’ll be trying to do Kraven’s Last Hunt in video game form, what with Kraven pushing Spiderman into a darker palce and all that… could be cool.

  • Valtiel Ikari

I just want to be able to use the previous movie costume, it was so much better looking and gave this more nice feel to the eye.

On gameplay, liked the first game, just hope they improve some minor stuff like the open world web swing, and add some of the things back from spiderman 2 on ps2 and some from web of shadows.

    • British_Otaku

I can see them making the costume from the first movie, preorder DLC or something in the future. If they can make a profit off something easy as a costume, they will even if I didn’t like the design myself.

Everyone is going to have a right laugh if they don’t feature match Spiderman 2 and Web of Shadows to a greater extent on any of the platforms… It would be cool if the 3DS got an open world Spiderman game as well
