  • Original Sayin Prince

digital eshop games not linked to an account, no F’ing way

    • subsamuel01

That’s the main reason why I choose not to buy digital games on Nintendo consoles.

      • KnifeAndFork

I don’t even understand the logic in why they didn’t design it like that in the first place

        • subsamuel01

Nintendo seems to only follow their own logic

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Because Nintendo doesnt believe in trying people’s ownership of a game to a server in the cloud.
So they made a hybrid system of accounts tied to hardware with the game licenses that are attached to their servers so they can give you back your games if you call them and complain enough ( or have the serial number).

Unlike Steam, other account systems do not guarantee you access to the licenses you purchased, and hard data back ups in the event of the apocalypse ( company goes out of business)
Effectively, your game are tied to the hardware anyway when and if that happens. Right now however and Ps3 you have will play the PS3 games linked to said specific account.Too bad you cant play them on the Ps4. Nintendo seems to be the only one interested in digital backwards compatibility.

If the account systems were always online you couldn’t play any of them. Lol

The way pokebank is set up is also a hybrid

But since people complained about the “account system gate” so much, they’re used to the convenience of buying any system from a single generation and it all being there, Nintendo was forced to put the access into the cloud. Hence why the WiiU and the 3DS eshops share a wallet.

Meaning you’re one step closer to exactly what you want. Nintendo could decide, in the next update for instance, that you can now access your account from any system.

But the reality is, account systems do nothing for your ownership of a digital title. Nothing at all. Its all a smoke screen that now people take at face value because its convenient in the short term. (Like if you have you lose your handheld)

The only benefit of buying digital is not having discs overtax your disc drive. And not having to install shit. (But PS4 and Xbox One effectively kill this). Faster loading times and the like.

Sometimes I wish cartridge technology was pushed along as quickly as smartphone tech is today.
          Discs cant spin fast enough.

Animal crossing would access the RAM and have the game would all load from there. Xenoblade’s another type of game that loads while you’re playing

If you’re as cagey about buying digital games now you should be just as cagey on any other console out there ( and on Apple too, wonder when you’ll lose all your music if you dont take the steps necessary to protect your collection now.)
Nothing you buy is going to last forever.
Unlike these cartridges I bought.( Just gotta change the batteries every so often!)
Unless its on steam and you back it up on 200 HDDs and you pray that they dont fail on you.

          • kthanxyousuck

            *insert standing ovation gif*

        • kthanxyousuck

I don’t understand the logic in why people feel than an account gives them ownership. The only thing I “own” is something I can physically hold and keep with me. I will always prefer physical over digital whether I have an account or not but I will buy digital if there is no option (like with ace attorney)

Even the PSN system isn’t fantastic. And downloadable games are tied to the system as well as your account. Games can only be downloaded on 2 systems at the same time and you have to remember to deactivate the game on the system before switching. You can do this online if you don’t have access to the system, but it is annoying sometimes.

          • xhunter

Thing is, my first PS3 broke, but I still have all my digital games on my new one because of how PS accounts work and I deactivated my broken PS3 through internet. But if my 3ds breaks, I won’t have those games and DLC anymore and will have to pay for them again. That’s the problem.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

it tied to Club Nintendo when you register it

  • Harpuia

The base price should be $30.00 at this point. But, I guess saying it is on discount(Forever?) is a better marketing tool.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

The game is still worth 50$.

      Its damn fantastic

  • Falco252

Europe : still waiting to buy it for 40€ in x months.

    • Timovisch

I second this. -_-‘ Nintendo / Atlus should at least give us a release date. I don’t care if it comes out next month or end of 2014. Just a tiny date. Okay? Oh well…time to wait once more.

      • Amagidyne

At this point, I’d just settle for at least knowing the YEAR of release. This year? Next year? God I hate living in Europe sometimes.

    • brostar

The wait is killing me for this game. I will be importing Persona 5 when it comes out in America because I just don’t trust them with it. If only I could import SMT IV…

    • hng qtr

I wonder if there will be a 30 bucks deal with some Nintendo game when( or if) it gets released there.

  • Cephrien

Anyone who hasn’t been taking advantage of these discounts on SMT IV need to just stop what they’re doing and do it now.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I bet all the sales are rewards for SMT4 being the best selling game in the series XD

    • darkfire998

      I would love to,but I live in Europe…

  • Altsein

Not tied to an account and eternal $30.00 discount?

  • ParrotProphet

Saw this one coming. I hope more people dip into this one. It was one of my favorite games of 2013. I’m on my second playthrough.

    IN other news.

Nintendo is back to normal in regards to stock, though this sort of thing normally doesn’t get reported by other sites. Most would rather spell the doom though. It’s kind of sad. :(

  • British_Otaku

Is anyone keeping count of how many times this game has been on sale?

    • J_Joestar

not sure about SMTIV itself, but Atlus games have been having eshop sales pretty much every week since around christmas time.

      • British_Otaku

I see. Maybe I just have laser vision aimed towards SMTIV as it still doesn’t have a date along with some other recent portable release debacles in the recent past (censorship and cancellation).

  • KnifeAndFork

It’s nice that Atlus offers sales on their 3DS games from time to time

It’d be nice if Nintendo would learn to do that as well for their 1st party titles..

    • Anime10121

Main reason I dont buy many Nintendo First Party games anymore. I’m not really a fan of Mario or Donkey Kong anymore, and while I dont outright dislike them, they arent worth the asking price to me, and considering the big N’s first party software RARELY drops in price more than 5-15 bucks (depending upon the source being console or handheld), I just end up not buying much from them… Well unless its Kirby, Smash, or Monolith Soft titles….

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

I’ve been buying Nintendo’s handhelds and consoles for 23 years now, rarely do I ever buy their platformers, but when I do , they leave me impressed

Expecting Nintendo’s AAA games to drop in price is very silly because they sell over a long period of time, they sell in great amounts, and after years, they remain popular and quality titles. You may see them drop in price officially 3 years later. Up to the market to decide. Like when they decided they’d price gouge you on Xenoblade,( Even though that game is fully worth 80$ imo, its like a Chrono Trigger successor.)

They’re like a pair of well shaped G cups that remain perky and don’t sag for years. But not everyone appreciates a G cup. Some like C-cups. C-cups are easier to find, more realistic.

Their other games drop in price. Like Glory of the Heracles. Do you even know that is? You can buy it for 5$ and it’s a random RPG they developed.

On another note, Smash’s 15th anniversary was yesterday.
        Anticipating Smash 4 greatly

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

They do actually, its your fault if you dont live in europe and dont get to experience glorious shibata flash sales.

Lol. TW101 went on sale for 10 bucks. ( I dont remember the others)

What I dont like though is Ubisoft has lots of European sales. ZombiU for 15$ for instance.

Several games go on sale on the eshops , first party or 3rd party, if you wish to be willfully ignorant of them, then you shall duly miss out

  • JustThisOne

Damn, just when is this game not on sale? Oh well, hopefully more people pick it up then. :> It’s absolutely wonderful.~

  • Digital-Devil

I hope our Eurobros get this fantastic game soon. Hopefully they’ll also receive the limited edition and some extra stuff for having to wait so long to play such a great game.

    • James Enk

how nice of you to call us Eurobros:)

  • Oguri Murasaki

    o_O? it is still 49.99 in eshop….

  • Anime10121

Dammit! I’m already broke… Y U DO DIS Nintendo?! Had to be this week, couldnt have waited til next pay period could ya :(

Hm… to eat, or to game… I just recently got into Persona, and I’ve heard that the SMT series proper is quite a bit different… I’m conflicted, I want this game, but am unsure whether I’ll actually play it anytime soon. Also I heard its characters were kinda weak, and theres not much to the story…

People who’ve played it, is there any truth to this?

    • Tuna-Egg

It’s certainly different from Persona 4 Golden (my favorite game ever) because there are no lovable characters and character interactions are not the strong point of the game. As for the story, I like it better than P4 but I’m not exactly one to play games for story so YMMV. The story progression relies mainly on moral choices that you make as a player. I personally like that part because there are no clear-cut right or wrong answers.

What I like about SMT IV is the difficulty, which can be quite brutal. It requires more strategizing than P4G because even random demon encounters can and WILL slaughter your team, even if you’re 10+ levels above enemy. But in truth, it’s not really so difficult because you can save anywhere and can be revived any time by Charon by paying a bribe (playcoins or macca). The demon fusion system is also as awesome as ever (I’m a big fan) and is the demon fusion app is more in-depth and easier to use than the one in P4G.

Graphically speaking, exploration is 3D but battles are in 1st person and use 2D sprites. Not as pretty looking looking as P4G, but suitable. The atmosphere is also depressing, as the setting in SMT games is post-apocalyptic. I like how the game always makes you stay alert for ambushes, and have logged over 100 hours in it.

Addition: Plus points for you having Yusuke as your avatar :)

      • Anime10121

Thanks for the in depth description! I think I’ll wait on this a bit from reading it though, as I like my RPG’s more story/character focused than gameplay focused (I know I’m kinda backwards but yeah :P). Difficulty without an equally engaging story would just kinda piss me off, as I’d feel like I’m pushing through for nothing…

I’m also not really a big fan of first person battles. While I still definitely plan on getting this game (gotta support Atlus), it’ll likely be a bit later once I clear my backlog a bit.

I’ve yet to REALLY jump into P4 though, as I just started it a few days ago and have barely played more than half an hour (game time starts Tuesday for me, as I’ll be off work). But I’ve watched the animation and it seems like I’ll greatly enjoy it (probably not as much as P3Fes though, as I loved the darker theme that game had)!

Thanks for the read, and the info though :D

        • Tuna-Egg

Sure. No prob. Play P4 first as it’s the best game ever!

          I have yet to play P3 but I will soon :) (P3P)

          • Anime10121

I wholeheartedly recommend 3 with all my hype! Became one of my favorite games in the time that I played it! P3P has a lot of gameplay improvements (more social links, feMC, controllable party) too, so I’ve read, but it kinda takes away stuff too, it turns the game into more of a Visual Novel, with no overworld, no 3D cutscenes, and it also lacks the Answer segment (an extra 30 hour chatper exclusive to Fes), which is a difficult yet VERY important part of P3 that I feel the game would be incomplete without (though I guess you could technically Youtube it, I just dont really like that option)!

Either way though, DO IT :P Persona 3 is fantastic!

  • Rinne111

Nintendo Europe needs this game why not release the digital version on e-shop

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      It’s coming next year.

Dont be sad that Korea got it first.

      • Rinne111

        It is TBA

  • Pdugna

Atlus is like the only freaking Publisher to have sales on 3DS it seems besides nintendo sometimes.

  • xhunter

Is it just me… or is SMTIV not actually 30$? The eshop is still charging me over 50$, do Canada not get discounts or what?

    • Aemette

I’m having the same problem. Still says $49.99 in my eshop. This is so not fair >:(

  • Eder García

i spent all my money on a past ATLUS games sale… bad choice, i had to wait.
also Project X Zone got a permanent price drop, good chance for new 3DS/2DS owners like me

    • Anthony Birken

hmmmm, i could’ve waited then. Got the LE of PxZ upon release, but this is a good chance for SMT4. Personally I wanted non-digital, but I won’t complain. Is the game locked to some sort of nintendo acc?

  • JMaster3000

Inb4 we are gonna get a fiasco like Rune Factory 4 with it -_-
But i have choosen the right thing and will sell my 3DS now.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      Nintendo’s publishing the game.
You guys just got bravely default SMT4 is coming out in 2014

Rune factory’s dev team is going out of business

      • JMaster3000

The time gap isn’t big like we get them here.
SMT IV, Harvest Moon 3DS,RF4 which even got canned lol.
So yeah, buying a 3DS in Europe is just stupid.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Germany and France disagree with you

          • JMaster3000

We are all in the same boat…

    • Thatguy

      Never forget. Never forgive.

  • Oguri Murasaki

Errr…. I don’t see this discount on e-shop? When does it start?

  • it is still listed as $50.00 for me…is it not yet effective?

    • xhunter

Still 50$ for me too last I checked… I think I’ll just buy Dual Destinies at this point.

      • i looked around a bit…and it looks like the discount starts on the 27th of this month.
