Hey, This Indie Game Looks A Heck Of A Lot Like Metroid…

ReVeN is a side-scrolling shooter that looks heavily inspired by the Metroid series, at least aesthetically, and incorporates RPG elements found in games like Deus Ex and Crysis. These take the shape of the game’s “EDM.” mechanic.

“EDM” stands for “Energy Divergence Module,” and it allows you to divert energy into four parts of of your armour—Weapons, Shielding, Mobility and Sensors—similar to the Nanosuit from the Crysis games. Diverting energy to any of the aforementioned areas of your suit will boost that particular aspect.

The trick, however, is that you’ll lose energy in one system to power up another. In order to keep your power supplies up, you’ll need to search for power cores around the world, and this is how the game encourages exploration.

ReVeN will also allow you to switch suits. Suits in the game are called “gears” and each one comes with a different ability, such as allowing you to restore health, add a charge ability to your weapon, speed you up and so on. As you find different gears in the game, you’ll be able to switch between them to tackle different situations.

ReVeN is in development for PC and has a crowdfunding campaign going on Kickstarter. The game itself needs just $18,000 to be funded, but at the $100,000 mark, it will also be developed for Wii U, with another round of polish. At the $200,000 mark, it’ll get a PS4 and Vita release. You can learn more about the game here and vote for it on Steam Greenlight here.
