The 3rd Super Robot Taisen Z Introduces New Ways To Blow Up Enemy Mecha

By Sato . February 4, 2014 . 10:20pm

With 32 confirmed series, The 3rd Super Robot Taisen Z will offer players plenty of mobile suits and mecha to choose from. This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine shares some details on new and upgraded battle systems in the upcoming tactical RPG.

In The 3rd Super Robot Taisen Z, the Maximum Break will allow your sub-unit to use any weapon for a cooperative attack. Using it will also allow the attack to go beyond the weapon’s range, to go with x1.2 of extra damage. Additionally, it’ll nullify any of your opponent’s counters, defense, and shields. Maximum Break can be used to combine two single-target attacks, or two all-target attacks; however, you’ll need to max out your Tag Tension meter before using it, which will also make it go down to zero upon use.

The D-Trader feature is where you’ll be using Z-Chips acquired by defeating enemies to purchase parts. In order to have the parts and system upgrades available for purchase, you’ll be required to meet certain conditions in order to unlock them.

The Trader scenario will have Ace Pilot events called the Ace Talk. More details on the events will be available on a later update. Meanwhile, you can check out a bunch of screenshots in our earlier report.

The 3rd Super Robot Taisen Z will be taking off on April 10, 2014 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Anyone else worried about how this will turn out? Announcement seems a bit rushed, face icons (again!) on map, and visuals look like a downgrade compared to animations in 2ndOGs/Dark Prison. Almost looks like they want something that will guarantee sales so it wont bomb like LoE3. I’m still planning to preorder though.

    • Mugen555

No, unlike MK3 which went under the radar(early high difficulty spike also contribute) make the game ignored.
Z3 already speculated announced during event and SRW always announced rather 4-5 month before release.
Elevens are rather hyped and didn’t care about face icon.

      • Is it wrong/racist to laugh at “Elevens” lol?

    • Lynx

-downgrade compared to animations in 2ndOGs/Dark Prison

Love how many times I’m repeating myself with this.

They are different teams. iirc, they mentioned they’d been working on 2nd since Gaiden so 08. Z Team however has had a consistent output from PS2 to PSP. Besides, Z I believe was all supposed to be PS2 but was forced off.

  • Raine

Did you say “Maximum Break” will let me tag-team with another pilot!?

Alright, we need to have a sequence of Gurren Lagann, Eva unit 01, Eva Unit 02, Eva unit 00, and Gunbuster using SUPER INAZUMA KICK as a team attack.

Plus, a Gunleon and Virgola Glory tag team will be awesome, with their themes overlapping with each other.

Or just for the sake of awesomeness, Crowe piloting Librasta B and Eshter piloting Librasta R having a team attack!

    The combination is endless!

    • sd28

maybe they might actually animate Librasta decently this time

This news always makes me so sad. If I could honestly bring over any entirety of a series, it would hands down be the SRW/SRT games. And just seeing these come out one the VITA makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry. I know sales would probably be terrible because many western gamers have call of doody syndrome running through their veins.

My pipe dream :: Amass large amounts of money and:
    1. Give all the $ to Namco Bandai to release SRT series in the West.
    2. Give all the $ to CyberConnect2 and tell them to hijack the development of the DBZ games.
    3. Give all the $ to Platinum Games so they can keep doing what they are doing forever.

    4. Enforce popularity of Gundam in the west, and giant robots for that matter, possibly make it a law.

    Lulz. I’m srsbsns.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      1. licensing is so expensive for this game
      4. western already had transformers

      • KnifeAndFork

        Lol Transformers.

The whole problem with localizing Anime is these cheap Japanese business men failed long ago to properly establish western localization divisions and proper marketing so they took the easy road by licensing their stuff out which in turn in the end gave them way less power and control.

That’s why we can’t get proper Macross stuff in the West to this day because Harmony Gold still holds the license and refuses to let it go despite all the legal battles.
And due to crappy business handling now Bandai Entertainment closed down their Western division last year completely. They failed at successfully reaching out globally since the late 70’s which is when they should have seriously planted the seeds for it to grow on their own without any greedy foreign companies ‘help’.

Now because of this whole corrupt licensing issues 30 years later, and lack of smart business planning by the Japanese, this is why we can’t have nice things…

        • Renaldi Saputra

but bcos there’s transformers, any Japanese Super Robot games couldn’t compete, many of them being called poor man’s transformers

          • KnifeAndFork

            You’re making that up

    • icecoffemix

      5. Buy good RPG IP from SE, Capcom, Konami call the old team who make the best game from that IP back to make the game for that IP. Tell them that we don’t need super cutting edge graphic or fanfare, just something good from this budget. Release it on all possible platform, possible as the budget allow, if the platform is not powerful, easy or scalable enough then scrap it. PC steam release is a must.

      Stop cry and import it.

      • DarkLight

        Can’t understand japanese.

        • Brion Valkerion

Probably for the best, the story in this entire franchise is terrible, you play for the awesome moves and mechs.

          • Tiduas

No, the beauty of the moves get more meaning because of the awesome story attached to them.

          • ………What? Alpha gaiden, W, and Z have some of the best stories in Japanese games. Not even being a fanboy, just being truthful.

          • Andrés Ortiz Ozeta

there should be a english-patched version of SRT Alpha Gaiden… go play that and realise the mistake you’re making

        • 永次

          Learn japanese.

        • DaiRaiOh

Hasn’t stopped me from playing the majority of them anyway

  • Spirit Macardi

As awesome as this game looks (Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann might as well be an instant win move since it’s the size of the moon), I still wish my beloved Star Driver could be in it…

That series never got the love it deserved. Bandai Entertainment went under before it could be dubbed, the movie was just a compilation with some extras that didn’t even explain how Takuto and Sugata got back to Earth, and I think there was only one game based on it.

I mean, it’s a mecha series with magical girl tropes where the hero’s title is literally “Galactic Prettyboy.” What’s not to love?

  • Wonder how much it’s gonna cost upon release to import.
