Nintendo has Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze ready for release in Japan. The Wii U game (which drops the Country moniker in Nintendo’s home turf) has Donkey Kong (actually Donkey Kong Jr.), Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong (who plays kind of like Scrooge McDuck from Ducktales) as playable characters. Speaking of four player games, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is due for Vita in Japan too.

Things are more interesting in the West where Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc launch.

My limited edition copy of Danganronpa has shipped successfully. Looking forward to it!

Considering trying to get Romance Dawn sometime, too. If only I didn’t have Bravely Default to absorb my 3DS’s life.

Okay so does this mean were waiting Diddy Kong confirmed or there will be a Donkey Kong Stage on WiiU version?

    • Grape Monet

I’m assuming you’re talking about Smash Bros. and if so, yes, we should see something this week.

  • subsamuel01

Really hope Donkey Kong helps sell some units, though I don’t think DK sells as well as Mario in Japan.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Donkey Kong is an odd little series. He pushed hardware and each game will sell 6 million copies, no matter the install base of the system

As a Wii U owner I wont lie and say that this will be be what will save the WiiU especially given the backlash of the VGX Awards when Cranky Kong was introduced when people were expecting something groundbreaking that would turn Nintendo’s fortunes around. I remember that day going more or less like this:
“Cranky Kong?! Oh Shi- Microsoft and Sony must be crapping in their pants! Quick tell them to release Titanfall and Uncharted 4 already!”

Not to mention that the PS4 will be released soon in Japan, not helping Nintendo at all. Still something is something.

Nintendo is just a giant mess right now, at least in terms of the Wii U. I think their good on the 3DS side, not much you could really improve there.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Nintendo’s not really a mess man.
If you wanna see a mess look at ubisoft ._.

Next gen is full of delays and incomplete games…

        • Haganeren

If you make money from an unfinished game… Why not ?
I am as sad as your and I love Nintendo for the fact when he release a game, it is actually finished.

But well, AAA games sell well at day one despite the fact it is not finished so… Why would they care ? (And they knew the majority of the bugs at the release no less…)

Nintendo seem conservative about thing people doesn’t care nowadays… And it’s sad.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Because people decided to play follow the leader with Grand Theft Auto instead of doing their own thing.

That demographic that grew up with the PS2 has a Bigger is Better mentality

Its a self fulfilling prophecy of doom

Its telling when Nintendo’s the only company that makes a profit of gaming and gaming alone. (Sony breaks even, Microsoft still loses a shit ton of cash)

VGX isn’t E3 so those who expected too much is their own fault not Nintendo

      • Zer0faith

Not entirely true, Zelda U had been announced earlier so people were hoping for a trailer or release date, same for X and Shin Megami TenseixFire Emblem. Then there was Miyamotos rumored new IP. On top of all that it was Nintendos 1st time at he VGX and mario 3d world, pikmin and wind waker werent giving them the numbers they wanted. Not to mention that Cranky had already been leaked a few days prior so it was the farthest thing from their minds.
So yeah the hype train was huge.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Hype Train should have died when Nintendo said it was for a previously announced game, but nope.

          • Zer0faith

The first 3 games I mentioned had already been previously announced by that time though.
So really it was as much the fans’ fault as it was Nintendo’s.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Have you seen the PS4 launch line up? http://playeressence.com/japan-updated-ps4-launch-line-up/

Every single one of them is on the PS3.

Only reason to buy them on PS4 is graphics. Not very compelling.

      • Zer0faith

Doesnt matter legions of fans will still buy it just like they did for the US release when it had no exclusive that the PS3 didnt have. Just the way it works really and I expect it to sell out in a similar manner. Even now some stores are having trouble restocking them here.
Either way its going to put a dent in WII U sales for sure.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Eh… I dont really know how many fans Sony has in Japan anymore XD

          *Stares at my Vita*

And PS4′s being sold out, more attribute to a stock problem, some huge best buys, didnt receive PS4′s for 20+ days in “murica. PS4 seems to be most popular in the states and Europe, not doing very well in Asia, given the launch line up I can see why.

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Gotta say this game has tons of love in, I personally was willing to wait a few months or so for DKC Tropical Freeze but as a lover of the first game and DKCR, I might just bite earlier. Good job Retro and Nintendo.

  • Devinja

I just got a wiiu today. I look forward to picking this up soon. The first was so good. Also holy crap One Piece is out now.

  • NeptuniasBeard

DK Tropical Freeze, the first of many great WiiU games for 2014. I don’t know if it will sell well, but I’m gonna buy it, and it looks like it will be a worthwhile purchse
