By Spencer . February 18, 2014 . 12:59am

image One of the rarest PsOne games is about to get more accessible. Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return will be available as a PsOne import on February 18 thanks to MonkeyPaw games.

While Tomba! 2 was localized into English, the PlayStation Network release will be the Japanese version called Tomba!: The Wild Adventures. MonkeyPaw says they will post a walkthrough for Tomba! 2 on their website after the game launches.

Awww yeeeaaaaahhh Tombaaaaaaa, fun game ;D

  • lordsofskulls

hmm not english version though meaning their might had been some licensing problems… >.> with the USA version

  • Göran Isacson

Now I’m curious: why not release the translated American version? Was there no American version, only a European? And if so, why could they not simply release that version? So many questions…

    • MrSirFeatherFang

There was definitely an American release. I’m curious as to why they couldn’t release the original translated version too.

      • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Especially since the translated version is available on EU PSN. Maybe there were two different localizations, like Shining Wisdom?

    • icecoffemix

Something to do with licensing from the now defunct company iirc.

      • Göran Isacson

Aaah, the dread licensing devil shows it’s ghastly face once more. Never a pleasant ordeal, that.

  • Vermillion

again. good game and japanese ver only.

  • landlock

Honestly if I really wanted to play it now. I’d just plump up the £50 quid to buy either the PAL or NTSC disc version. Both are on Amazon UK. Not really a game playable in Japanese IMO.

  • Irina Zanza Baptista

But… We already have this in Europe since… 2012 I believe?
Not sure what language is in, though. Always thought it was english but with this release in japanese for the US I don’t know anymore :/

  • NeoStrayCat

Yes, there are licensing problems afoot, but also reasons I’ve heard/read that we can’t get the US version, is because Tomba 2 doesn’t play nice on a PS3, because of Graphical issues/bugs/glitches, and probably won’t emulate the game correctly as it should be, but hey, at least we’re still getting the game anyways. :3

    • Anthony Hadow

Actually if you read what MonkeyPaw games had to say they didnt specify why they weren’t able to have an english version. Europe got one we couldn’t even get the PAL version. All MonkeyPaw games said was they tried everything they could. Over a year ago MonkeyPaw games announced this game was almost finished for release on the network why do we see it a whole year later? Seems like a lot of hush hush is going around the PSOne classics if you ask me.

    whelp, childhood gone!
The most important part is the quests in this game and if you don’t understand japanese, you’re screwed!

    • Ash_Riot

Make a UK PSN account, buy PSN UK cards off eBay – one and done.

  • Invisbin

DAMMIT. Was so looking forward to a digital copy. I have the original game still, but I can’t find my ps2 anymore :(

  • Why couldn’t they release the game in English?

    • Anthony Hadow

They didnt comment on the subject. They only mentioned they did everything they could not specifying what exactly they did. PAL got PAL version, JAP got JAP version and we get JAP version :(

      • Well, that’s kind of crappy. No, that’s really crappy. I was never into the series but I know that there was a loyal following over here. And now they can’t even play it in their native tongue.

        • Anthony Hadow

Yes its really unfortunate. It doesn’t help that they won’t comment as to why we couldn’t get it in English everywhere got it in there native language except us.

  • mockturtle

I can’t bring myself to be interested knowing that it’s not in English.

Also, I keep finding conflicting reports on whether Tomba 2 is on the Euro PSN, and if so, if it’s in English. Can someone help me out here? Because I’ll just make a Euro account, but the appropriate PSN card and get that if so.

  • Peace Legacy

This is the song of my childhood

Absolutely loved Tomba 2 on the PSX as a kid. The fantasy landscape with cheery overtone, adventure feelings, doing quests, etc. while being submerged in a beautifully 3d animated landscape with breathtaking soundtracks… this game just pretty much define my childhood

…as a child, I could never finished Tomba 2 though due to the fact that… I was a kid and my English was still limited (stuck in the Donglin Forest, can’t get to the circus town). It was until year 12… almost a decade past, that I decided to finish what I have started, download the English ISO into the PSP and have a full nostalgia blast back to my childhood… and the feeling of finishing something that has been left hanging in my mind for almost a decade… it is awe-inspiring

…if I can play this game again one more time, I would still definitely would without even a second thought

  • Chip

This kind of a slap in the face, since as an import, doesn’t that mean it’ll be in Japanese?

  • Kristina Wright

So, I’m very glad that this finally came to America but I didn’t know it’s in Japanese only. I was totally thrown off by the PSN because they have the American box art as the thumbnail and even the American subtitle. I was sorely disappointed when I went to install it, seen the name was different and then seen Japanese characters on the title screen. :-( Very bummed I can’t understand what the heck is going on, this was my first PS1 game and I loved it but lost my copy along the many moves my family made way back when.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

sigh and when are the other Squaresoft titles such as Saga Frontier,Einhander, and Brave Fencer Musashi going to get on NA & EU PSN.
