Yo-kai Watch Ships Over 500,000 Copies In Japan

By Ishaan . February 19, 2014 . 9:00am

The barrier has been broken. Level 5 have shipped over 500,000 copies of Yo-kai Watch in Japan, the publisher announced this morning.

Additionally, it bears mentioning that Level 5 specifically pointed out that the 500,000 figure refers only to packaged copies, and doesn’t include download sales.

This announcement comes following a tweet from Level 5 International America, the company’s western branch, expressing an interest in bringing Yo-kai Watch to the west.

Bought this game on the eStore and it’s fantastic. I enjoyed it much more than the new Pokemon, the battles are a lot more interactive and fun. In my humble opinion.

Hi, this could be a dumb question but you have a JP 3DS? And about the game can I get all the ghost?

      • raeldor

Hi, yes I have a Japanese LL. I think you can get all the ghosts, maybe excluding some of the bosses. There’s certainly a lot of them to collect.

I really want this game this year in US, I think I will enjoy more this game than pokemon too, I saw a lot of gameplay and I like a lot what I saw =D

The animation is doing pretty well too, this week it was among the most watched in Japan. And well, the game seems fantastic, let’s see if Level 5 America is serious and decide to bring it over, it has all the ingredients to be a insta-hit!

I just hope they don’t go the Pokemon route and dumb down the references to Japanese culture.

Like that time Ecruteak was replaced by a giant void.

        Oh wait that never happened.

An actual example would be the Ace Attorney series which, while great, took “localizing” to an absolutely insane level.

        • Steven Higgins

I was thinking more along the lines of the anime, the games, as far as I know, didn’t have many references to Japanese culture to begin with.

  • Tsurugi

I really want this game, and please bring this year , I want to see this game in the next Nintendo direct US, physical or eShop version of this game =D

Why does Level 5 think that practically ALL of their titles “don’t have an american audience”? This NEEDS to come to the west if it does that well. But we should have gotten Fantasy Life already.
