New Super Smash Bros. Has Two Versions Of The Boxing Ring Stage

By Ishaan . February 25, 2014 . 12:37pm

The new Super Smash Bros. game has two versions of the boxing ring stage, director Masahiro Sakurai has shared over Miiverse. The first is the one in the screenshot above, which is the Smash Bros. version of the stage.

Meanwhile, the second is the version below, which is the Punch-Out!! W.V.B.A. design version of the stage.

So, it WAS Little Mac Stage afterall. Interesting.

  • Nanaki

    Super Smash Bros. Rumble!

  • CRUSHING

I was really hoping it was gonna be DeDeDe’s ring :(

    • Ben Sylvia

Might get an alternate version for that too.

After all, we haven’t seen any Kirby stages yet.

  • Herok♞

I hope they are different sizes or one lets you fight outside the ring since otherwise it will seem pointless to have twice as much chance to get it in random

    • idrawrobots

      Unless it’s the same stage.

    • Reiswindy

In Little Mac’s intro video, he was shown running outside the ring, so it’s a possibility.

    • Kavyn

I imagine it’s the same stage and they would randomly select one when you chose it (like the super mario bros stage in SSBB that switched between 1-1 and 1-2).

      • Herok♞

        I did forget about that.

    • ZEROthefirst

Probably the same stage and you have an option to choose between which version you want like how you can choose a color for each character. I’m there with you on how it would be stupid if they made the same stage twice just to change the patter in the ring and no real differences.

  • chocodino

Shadow Moses had 3 versions on brawl along with spear pillar, and smashville had 5, so multiple versions of stages is nothing new/surprising

  • hazelnut1112

This is making Ridley’s confirmation more than true. He is finally gonna be in the game guys.

    • FlobotingIt

The fine print confirms Half Life 3 for 2014, too. And 4 for 2016.

      • xzeldax3

Hold on…actually, if you squint, you’ll see that Valve is just skipping 3 because of Gabe’s fear of the number.

        • FlobotingIt

Crap, really? Let me take another look…

Oh, yup, there it is. Does that… Does that say that Gabe is petitioning all numbers divisible by three, too, and that he never wants another year divisible by three?

  • chroma816

Feels like a waste if they’re the same minus some aesthetic changes.

  • David García Abril

Why do I get the feeling that this ring will be the new “Final Destination”?

You know, about “””pro gamers””” (Notice the triple quotes. And they’re not derogatory towards the game…)

    • Heisst

      Doubt it, there’s no pitfalls.

    • AuraGuyChris

It would, if it weren’t for the fact that…

      1) The stage has a complete floor, so anyone can run off-stage.
      2) There’s a ring in the middle, which counts as an elevated solid platform.
      3) There are walls in the form of strings on each side of the rings.

    • Time Sage

I wonder what would happen if they removed Final Destination and replaced it with the smash version of this.

      Fanboy tears, they feed me.

    • Asura

I’m still amazed at the sheer amount of people who fail so hard at realizing there are other neutral stages that are played more often and are more preferred than FD in professional play.

To answer your question: you get that feeling because you’re ignorant and also because you can’t stand other people having fun in ways different from yours. That’s why.

  • Ben Sylvia

I do wonder the exact method to choose.

Will it be like Mushroomy Kingdom, completely random? (Which would be annoying if you want one over the other)
Like picking alt colors or which character you start as in the case of PKMN Trainer and Zelda/Shiek?

And also, will each version share the same music list, or have separate ones?

Oh the suspense! Hype levels continue to rise!

  • MaskedHero99

    Reveal Mewtwo already

  • Alestaos

They always post more screens of the Wii U version, i get it they hope its gonna be a console seller. But with
a 3DS version as well id love to see an equal amount of screens. Like the last princess reveal showed loads
Of Wii U screens of her and only a couple of 3DS ones.

I was hoping the stage would change depending on who you use. Say you use Little Mac on the Boxing Ring stage and you get the Punch-Out!! version, otherwise it’s usually the Smash ring. There’s also the Zelda stage based off Spirit Tracks where Link can be seen driving the train, but if you play as Toon Link, it changes to the other guy (can never remember his name). I guess the Spirit Tracks stage would be random, though.
