Dynasty Warriors 8 Fills The Screen With Even More Enemies On PS4

By Spencer . February 28, 2014 . 2:24am

Tecmo Koei brought Dynasty Warriors 8 to PlayStation 4 as a launch title in Asia. How does the PS4 version stack up against the PS3 release? The game adds even more units on screen for players to whack on PlayStation 4. The colors appear to be more vivid on PlayStation 4 too.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Complete Edition (which includes Dynasty Warriors 8 and Xtreme Legends) comes out on March 25.

hmmm for once the difference is actually really obvious :p

  • EinMugenTenshin

Some of the blurring (2:38) makes no sense though. :P

    • LanceHeart

They just slapped blur over the game in seemingly random amounts. Same thing with shadows in cutscenes.

Kinda funny, but hopefully things get better for Dynasty Warriors 9.

      • Pyrofrost

I’m sure it will get better, this game is running on a modified version of DW7’s engine. They should be using an all new engine with DW9. . .well, I hope.

I am also hoping they will make 9 exclusive to next gen, and not cross-gen. I want to see a Musou game fully optimized for next gen consoles, not touched up for them.

Alright when did my boy Sun Ce start thinking he can tango with Lu Bu? x’D

    • Testsubject909

Ever since his Tonfa’s got the ability to cancel out of finisher moves enabling quick rapid constant juggling.

  • Chido55

The expressions can easily be seen on PS4.
Well, gonna jizz myself later with Vita version ;D

  • Kornelious

    …..Jk, can’t wait :)

    • Nanaki

It’s not clunky. :(( It just has curves.

      • Kornelious

I’m just kidding, the PS4 looks awesome (Someone doesn’t watch Zero Punctuation)

    • Varnes

Thumbs up for quoting Yahtzee lol

  • eilegz

    ladies and gettlemen next gen…….

  • fairysun

I played enough DW8 on PS3, so no DW8 if I buy PS4 later on.
    DW9 maybe.

  • NeoPancho

After playing any Dynasty Warriors of PS3, Xbox360 or Wii U you quickly realize that what you are seeing on screen is not even half the action of what’s actually going on, it’s just that the game isn’t rendering the enemies graphically, you can’t see them, but they are there… so, I don’t think that this time there are more enemies on screen than on PS3 version… it’s just that with PS4 you can see them!

  • Son of a Smooosh

I never really got into this series and want to try it out again with the release of complete edition, but what exactly is extreme legends? I tried looking it up and it seems like an enhanced version of 8, so why put the vanilla version into it as well? Is it just an expansion?
An explanation would be much appreciated. :o

    • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Yeah it’s basically just an expansion.

      • Son of a Smooosh

        Aight, thanks.

    • Ixbran

Its a disk based expansion, the Xtreme Legends games were conceptualized by Koei in the PS2 era, back before DLC was a thing.

The XL game disk contains a bunch of new features that were unavailable in the first game. But you need the disk from the first game to have all the features of both. It used this disk swapping method of loading the XL Disk, going to the import option, then putting in the base disk for the game to read the data off it, then putting the XL disk back in the system resulting in the features of both disks being available.

Complete collection for the PS4 is DW8XL, with the original DW8 as a downloadable copy, that is automatically loaded on the system when you put in the DW8XL disk in the system.

      • Son of a Smooosh

        Thanks for the lenghty reply.

I assume the Vita version has a digital copy of 8 as well?

        • Ixbran

Yes I am going to assume so.

        • Testsubject909

Yes. The Vita will also have the package of DW8+XL.

Only the PS3 will have a standalone XL Expansion disc as opposed to a packaged one. The idea why is because the PS3 already had the standalone game so they see no reason to package it together.

  • PersonaSpace

God I can’t wait for this! My PS4 has been horribly underused since I received it. Dynasty Warriors is always a great way to get me to use my consoles.

  • The graphics looks pretty good on PS4, specially the lighting and textures. Which makes me wonder how beautiful games like FFXV and KHIII will be, considering Square-Enix usually puts lots of effort on graphics, compared to Tecmo-Koei.

  • Loli Summoner

I think they should have worked on the character’s hair more, still looks like crap to me sorry but, the lightning and background is nice :)
