Real Love or Love Potion? Visual Novel Otome Game Finds Out

By Eugene . March 17, 2014 . 4:31pm

Haven’t you ever wished you could have a love potion for the one you love? Probably, sometime in your life, you have. The Guardian’s Spell by dev studio Winged Cloud wants to find out what happens if that same potion is giving you some forced and possibly unwanted attention in this otome dating sim/visual novel that they want to fund via Kickstarter.

The game puts players as Haruka Yokokawa, a regular, plain, lass in senior high school. Apparently, she’s got a weird sense of humor and an even odder thought process. Which is why no one really notices her and she’s fine becoming a crazy cat lady with her cats and the good old Internet.

That changes when a kitten she adopts online turns into Wakahisa Koneko… a boyishly cute cat genie. Koneko says he’s here to grant Haruka’s innermost desires, and makes the three most well-known hot boys in school fall for her! She can undo the spell by changing her life around… but do we really want to?

The game will feature fifteen (!) different endings (hopefully with no nice boats) including Friendship endings and a true, Canon ending. It will also be fully voiced.

A few have been Greenlit recently, like Backstage Pass and Cinders. Cinders has already been released off of Steam, and Backstage Pass seems to be mostly done (and is currently having a beta for those who preordered). There are other visual novels that have been on Steam before, too, like Fading Hearts.

It’s interesting the description suggests players can undo the spell if they want to. It’d also be kinda neat if the game lightly touches on love potion/spell = emotional manipulation/abuse but ehhh not gonna expect that. I’ll look forward to this.

Yeah, this. Love potions are kind of iffy when you actually stop and THINK about them, so hopefully they won’t just dance around the elephant in the room all game.

I just recently finished playing Pyrite Heart (it’s free!) and am very happy about the quality. Definitely looking forward to this and hope it’s successful.

Most likely, with that huge portrait up there in the pic.

  • Haunting Horror

Nope, never have, but wouldn’t pass up the chance to play a game with such a story line! XD

This looks really interesting and the art is good too. Nice! :)

I gotta ask. Is there hentai in this? The project description mentioned no such thing, so my guess is “no.”
