By Ishaan . March 19, 2014 . 7:03pm

At his GDC panel today, Comcept’s Keiji Inafune debuted a new gameplay video for Mighty No. 9, featuring footage from an alpha build of the game. Watch it below.

Mighty No. 9 is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

This game is going to be so amazing. I’m proud to have been a backer.

    • Adrian Duran

      you’re not just a backer, you’re a becker

      • A Mighty Becker, at that.

    • Setsu Oh

i didn’t care much, i m glad for its success though.

  • Jerry Hu

Of course……Buy it!!! Although I am already a backer.

  • Heropon

a little slow compared to Azure gunvolt trailer . I hope it will improve in final version

    • Jerry Hu

It is still the α2ROM video, so don’t worry.

    • AkuLord3

They’re kinda too different games and yeah will be faster since this is way early gameplay

    • Arcana Drill

This game will be released in 2015… everything will be improved in the release, this is an alpha room (nothing is the final build).

    • Hexodious

That isn’t a big surprise, ain’t it? Gunvolt will be released somewhere in the Summer, while Mighty No. 9 will be released around April in 2015.

  • Rudy Soto

Fake No. 7, what the hell…

    • Christopher Nunes

      • César H. Sandoval

The apple robot at the end, kind of an easter-egg.

        • Christopher Nunes

I’m aware that No. 7 with his red armor and yellow scarf is a easter egg reference to both Protomon and Zero.

I’m just wondering why Rudy said “Fake”.

          • WyattEpp

They did a joke “reveal” of 7 that was basically an ugly apple robot. Various artists ran with it, and it became a larger, more amusing joke.

          • Christopher Nunes

            How amusing?

          • César H. Sandoval

Not him, the “other” No.7, the fake one, the robot in form of an Apple, as in the fruit, not just the color.

Is a Backer-inside joke/Easter Egg, when they first revealed 7, they did it with a joke robot and then Made the real (Ninja-like) one slash in half the fake.

          • Christopher Nunes

            Oh… I see now. Interesting, I didn’t know that.

  • TempestTwin

The most awesome part is that was only a demonstration of the alpha version of the game. Makes me feel pretty excited thinking what the full version will be like.

    • Hound

In this alpha, at 1:00, Beck jumps up and backwards before firing shots diagonally at the floor. I’m curious how this works and if it works in more directions (it doesn’t seem like an auto-lock feature.)

  • Christopher Nunes

    The game looks AMAZING! ^_^

Though no offense to Keiji Inafune, but I kinda wish the game was using those Hi-Res 2D sprites instead of the 3D models… the game looked more beautiful that way but the 3D Models rock too.

I CANNOT wait until this game is finished… I really miss playing MMX-like game (even though the game is closer to Zero/ZX which I also love).

  • YoshEE

Mighty No.7 and 8 look cool :O I cant wait to get my hand on them.

  • Now, what we see here is a Rebirth of a Legend.

    And DAT APPLE.

    • That is one Bad Apple.

      • Indeed. Hope it ends up as a Fortress mid-boss or something.

      • X_Bacon

        I understood that reference.

      • Melwwzas MZS

At first glance i disliked the Apple, however for some reason i like his design now not only because of the reference.
        dont ask me why

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Damn, that gave me goosebumps. So awesome. That dash was awesome, I wonder what its for. Also I noticed Beck jumping back and shooting.

  • Namuro

The dash-absorb mechanic is really cool! I can see it being a key part to mastering this game, especially in speed-run, and such. Also, that back-jump shot… that looks amazing! I hope there’ll be more moves like that in the final game.

  • Aoshi00

love the music, would definitely get the soundtrack once it’s out. I guess other than the throwback of MM9 & 10, Mighty No. 9 looks to be the closest of what came after MM8 on the PS :)

    • Anime10121

Another reason I’m REALLY liking the looks of it! Its not just “MOAR MEGAMAN”, as it actually expounds upon what Megaman (classic) COULD have become, had Capcom actually chose to continue the series “for real” after 8. I mean sure 9 and 10 were great as “throwback games” but I always did have a problem with how they were supposed to be “main entries” in the series and yet they regressed back on all the additions the series had known to be just like Megaman 2 (though I thought 9 was great as a throwback, 10 had me like :/, as I was like what was the point, even though I did like the game).

      • Aoshi00

I know, all these years I was hoping Capcom would do a real Megaman 9 after MM8, which had beautiful 2D sprites, SotN and MM8 were my favs.

Though I did like Intelcreates’s 8-bit MM 9 & 10 too.. If anything, both have really great soundtracks (I bought both the OSTs & rearranged albums) Too bad Capcom didn’t do anything and now Inafune and his original crew are granting so many fans’ wishes :)

Just a bit funny this is like the 9th game of MM being a spiritual successor. Even the preliminary gameplay has gotten us excited, the mechanics look fun and the soundtrack! Maybe Iga would do something great too and give us another great metroidvania w/ Yamane Michiru music and Kojima Ayami design.

I have to say, I really like the 2D sidescrollers on PSN/XBLA like Strider or Shadow Complex.

  • Prinny Dood

2015 is soooooooooooo 2015 away dood! getting the Vita version for sure dood!

    • Arcana Drill

Yeah, but think this way, we are almost in April already, almost 6 months since this kickstarter was funded…. i think time passes faster that we expect…

      • Testsubject909

Kinda does. I for one am a bit happy it’s release date is so far away because there are so many games and so little time to play them.

    • Testsubject909

Didja participate in the Kickstarter for your Gold Beck?

      • Prinny Dood

No dood! Master etna only gives me 1 he’ll per year, so you can understand why I didn’t donate dood!

  • Tenabrus

is that the star wars blaster sound?

  • DarthSithZero

I just hope this is the beginning of a new glorious saga. I miss Megaman X so much.

I’m gonna miss Zero, he’s my favorite character on the Megaman Universe.

    • Shippoyasha

Unless Capcom makes a miraculous about face, I’ll let the franchise rest in peace in its grave. I really miss the classic Megaman, X series, Legends, Zero, Battle Network and Aile in ZX and more..

  • Ryudo9

God damn I am so pumped and glad I backed it. The theme alone gives me that mid 90’s Saturn era nostalgia. Random thought Comcept and PG games team up on a future project? I’d love to see it.

  • هاكو ممممممممم

wow this is looking good, it is very close to mega man games which is great to have those days back and the music is amazing too

  • KyoyaHibari

This must be what ecstasy feels like…

  • Isaac Newton

I’m intrigue with No.3 because she has a rod. LOL

  • Hagaren

    Lookin’ good!

  • fairysun

Woah, liking the character design !

Somehow it reminds me of certain anime.

    • One of the best classics in Japan!

    • The Watcher

i could never get used to how fat the characters hands were. Great Anime.

  • Music’s great.

  • Anime10121

    ALL OF MY YES!!!

Also, I like the fact that he can shoot in any direction like Bass :)

  • J_Joestar

    2015 >_<
at least there'll be Gunvolt during the summer to ease the wait.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

So amazing. Looks like a fantastic build.

  • Testsubject909

    Dat Diagonal Fire!

But I couldn’t help but think back on people who were panicking over how there was supposedly a statement over how he didn’t want to make Mighty No 9 a “Megaman Clone”.

Personally, I couldn’t help but think “Well… he doesn’t want to make a megaman clone because he’s making a successor, not an imitation”. This video seems to confirm my own thoughts.

  • Heh, Unreal Engine blocks everywhere.

  • The Watcher

Will this be the first game that will be released on every current gen console and handheld?

  • Ric Vazquez

In Inafune we trust to make depressed Megaman fans happy again.

  • isotrex

Can’t wait for zero’s version. Gotta love that zero apple. :P
