I wish Nintendo didn’t have such an archaic online infrastructure and that these would be out on 3DS simultaneously. Oh well, I digress. Ill pick up Advance Wars for sure.

    • James Enk

i think this is more about giving the WiiU a selling point

    • Herok♞

You know some them are already on 3DS for ambassadors so they don’t want to put them there its that simple

      • Atwa

So they will never resell the games to consumers because they gave them away to a small number of 3DS owners? Ambassadors got them for free, everyone else has to pay. That is just lame reasoning.

        • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

They’ve only been doing it for three years now.

        • neo_firenze

I agree that it’s lame reasoning, and it isn’t even consistent with previous Nintendo decisions to sell other Ambassador games (many of the NES titles that were part of the Ambassador program) to everyone.

    Golden Sun, eh? Nice!

  • KingGunblader

I still think Nintendo’s VC release system is absolutely bananas, however I am also pleasantly surprised by the prices for these games.

  • Spirit Macardi

That new trademark for Klonoa: Empire of Dreams happened a while ago, yet still no sign of it on this list…

And in the wake of ShiftyLook’s shut-down, I fear that Namco may have just been screwing with us like usual.

  • MrRobbyM

I think the GBA games are overpriced by a buck or two but maybe now I’ll finally get the first Golden Sun.

  • Zonic505

$7 & $8 is rather decent, considering it’s the same price as SNES. I mean, $8 for Superstar Saga? Heck yeah, & I remember paying $30 for it back when it came out.

Now I look forward to hearing the 3rd party companies announce their games (like Namco & Klonoa).

  • Shane Guidaboni

Nintendo, you have a handheld device that can already run GBA games. Heck, you already put Metroid Fusion as an ambassador game on the 3DS. Just let the people that didn’t get it on the 3DS have a chance to buy it.

    • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Heck, they announced this a year ago

  • Guest

Oh! Kirby & the Amazing Mirror too, my little brother loves that game!

  • ZEROthefirst

Hey Golden Sun comes out on my birthday. Happy birthday to me XD
I could play my copies of Golden Sun on my GBA, but it would be nice to play on the big screen too.

  • http://theCKNB.wordpress.com/ CodyOh

Totally getting advance wars and Golden Sun! Never did get the Game boy player for gamecube.

    • mockturtle

      Basically this.

  • Ben Sylvia

Kinda sucks they’re crapping on the 3DS in favor of the Wii U when releasing formerly handheld games digitally. Guess I’ll just have to wait still longer to get to play Superstar Saga.

  • James Enk

Nice, GS is one of my favorite RPGs, i was a bit disappointed by the 3rd one but i still hope for a forth installment

  • BleuVII

Seems strange that they’re releasing Golden Sun but not Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

  • luckgandor

Reasons why these shouldn’t be on the 3DS eshop too:

    • SetzerGabbiani

Nintendo knows you want it on 3DS, but they want you to buy a Wii U. All about marketing/sales strategy. The same reason they released Earthbound on the Wii U.

      • luckgandor

I see their logic behind these decisions, but I still think it hurts them more than it helps. Old titles alone aren’t going to entice a lot more people to suddenly go buy a Wii U, and in the meantime, they’re not making as much as they could be from these digital re-releases.

If they want more people to buy a Wii U, simply announce more new games that people want. That should have been their focus all along.

        • SetzerGabbiani

I don’t disagree with that, but they are working with their contingency plan here, which is to put desirable legacy games on the Wii U VC to entice people who have been begging for certain games. Earthbound was effective in doing this to a point, and they are continuing the trend with a much sought after Metroid game and Golden Sun.

      • neo_firenze

Who are these people who are deciding to buy a $300 console because it has downloadable GBA games that are more than a decade old? I doubt this audience really exists.

Besides, if people really want these games so badly that they would buy an expensive console to play them, why wouldn’t they take the far more reasonable option of just buying the cheap and easily available GBA carts? Some are CHEAPER than the eShop prices (just looked at the dozens of F-Zero Maximum Velocity copies on Amazon going for ~$5 shipped), and even the ones that cost more aren’t much more (e.g. Superstar Saga with many $10-$15 copies out there).

Nothing against WiiU, I bought one on launch day and I like it! But this kind of strategy keeping stuff off 3DS is only going to frustrate loyal Nintendo fans who want these games on 3DS (where they seem like a very natural fit), and I just can’t see it really making a big impact on WiiU sales.

  • Kilim

    I haven’t replayed superstar saga in so long ;~;

  • ZEROthefirst

Now that I think about it I would absolutely love to see the Boktai games get put on the eshop. It would even be interesting if Nintendo or Konami decided to localize Boktai 3 this way like Atlus recently did with the original Shin Megami game. I know this won’t happen though because of the need for the solar sensor (unless they went out of their way to kind of work the game like Boktai DS/Lunar Knights and have the time change in game without the need for the solar sensor).

Boktai is such and underrated series and deserves more attention. Although I’m kind of hopeful about a new game since Kojima posted a picture of Django and how he missed him on his twitter a few weeks ago. I still have the cartridges for the 3 GBA games and Boktai DS/Lunar Knights so at least I can play them when I want (wish other people could play them too though… legally).

Looks to be a pretty strong opening with Superstar Saga, Advance Wars, and Metroid Fusion.

I’m still sorta laughing since I bought a physical copy of Superstar Saga a couple months ago…

  • Eder García

    April 24th:

    Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 – $7.99

noooooooooooo i wanted the SNES version!!!

    EDIT, those prices are crazy.

  • SetzerGabbiani

To the ATLUS folks who lurk on here, this is my Wii U GBA wishlist:

Super Robot Taisen OG 1 & 2 (if you still have the license)
    Devil Children (wishful thinking)
    Summon Knight SS2
    Ygddra Union
    Riviera
    Demikids
    River City Ransom EX
    KOF EX2

  • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

The sad thing about GBA is that it was arguably the best platform ever for licensed games. So much stuff based on Marvel, DC, cartoons and manga/anime. And chances are, it’s never going to see the light of day.

  • Learii

don’t Golden Sun suppose to be on 3DS VC since is only on handheld?

  • neo_firenze

Nintendo needs an equivalent to Sony’s cross-buy, period. Until that happens, they’re going to deservedly get criticism for their split WiiU/3DS VC releases. I can buy a PS1 game once and play it on my PS3, Vita, and PSP. Many indie games are now cross-buy, as are a lot of games with console (PS3 or PS4) and Vita versions.

Heck, Apple and Android are similarly consumer-friendly. I buy an app from Apple’s AppStore once, I can install it on any number of iOS devices. I buy an Android app and it’s on my account able to be used on any Android device I have, now or in the future. PC it’s almost too obvious to mention, but if I buy a game online on Steam or any other service I’m not tied to a system. I can install it on my notebook or my desktop, and I have no fear that I’ll be able to use it a few years from now on a new computer.

Nintendo has, quite simply, the most consumer-unfriendly practices in the game industry for selling online games. They don’t meet what has become the baseline from all of their competitors. And I certainly support them less because of it.

It’s even more laughable that they’ll intentionally hold back 3DS versions when we know most of these games ALREADY have 3DS versions (I have 5 of these 8 on my system right now from the Ambassador program). Pretty distasteful attempt to give WiiU some “exclusives” in the hopes of making it more attractive, but I can’t seriously imagine that anyone would be buying a WiiU due to it having decade+ old downloadable GBA games.

  • NimbusStev

    Mother 3! Mother 3!

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

I’ll get Advance Wars, I have most of the others.

  • 3PointDecoupage

So they won’t even put game boy games on 3DS??

  • hazelnut1112

Yet, still no release date for Super Mario Bros. 3
They announced it back in August and even to this day, it’s still TBD. What the hell is the hold up Nintendo? Japan has already got the game more than a year already.

  • http://youtube.com/user/Chubunater Chubunato

i wonder if they can make amazing mirror multiplayer somehow…

  • Vonter

Uhm people complaining about getting nice things? Still, I suppose the plan is keeping the exclusivity of these games until the 3DS games are ready to release on the Wii U VC. I certainly don’t believe those games will stay on Wii U forever, but still I agree it’ll be nice knowing when they plan to put them on the 3DS.

Now I’ll wait for the future complains, on how these games look bad on your TVs. :3

  • xzeldax3

    Golden Sun!

  • Hector Velar

So you can play this on the controller screen only or can you also play them on big tv screen?

  • Guest

@laer_heiseiryuu:disqus You don’t have to make a fuss about it, you can just go and look it up to find out.

@jamesenk:disqus You think that people will buy a Wii U for GBA games? Yeah, its a bonus but old games like these are almost completely negligible in actual console sales. They would earn more by just putting them out on both 3DS and Wii U almost guaranteed.

  • Atwa

GOD, you sound obnoxious. If you got a problem with something I wrote, write what and tell me why its wrong. As you worded that it makes you seem like a complete ass.
I said that Nintendo has awful online infrastructure, is that wrong?
Is it wrong that I want the game to be out on both 3DS and Wii U? Essentially a system that is one and the same across both platforms like Sony has. I never said that alone is what online infrastructure is, the implication is that if Nintendo had better online infrastructure that would trickle down to games like these being released on both systems. Much like Sony where most of the digital only content is accessible on all their systems.
If you think I said anything else, then that is you projecting something that I never wrote.

  • ZEROthefirst

I’m pretty sure what James Enk is meaning is that it helps the Wii U and gives it more of a reason for people to pick one up instead of skipping over it for the 3DS like people have been doing due to Nintendo’s lousy marketing and extreme slowness to get their main games out there.

I’m not saying I want this to remain an absolute exclusive thing to the Wii U, but if Nintendo can do things to get more attention focused on it for a while and help sales then I’m all for it.

  • Vonter

Zoom in version, versus panoramic view.

    Also lesser sound quality.

  • Vonter

I replied to a game quality comment. The pricing is fine. At least its not a 30 dollar demo, or a 15 dollar rehash DLC, or a 60 dollar online only mutiplayer game.

  • hazelnut1112

I don’t know what you are getting at because clearly I can. It doesn’t list Super Mario Bros. 3, only Super Mario ADVANCE 3.

  • Enzo

Isn’t Super Mario Advance 3 the same thing, except updated?

  • Enzo

Oh, okay. I wasn’t sure since I never had that many GBA games.

  • hazelnut1112

    WEll I feel foolish.
Glad they finally announced a release date.
Go ahead and laugh at the idiot…

  • hazelnut1112

Only thing I read from the article was the list of games. I shrugged off the rest after that.
