Ain’t No Party Like A Bandai Namco Tales Of Series Party

By Sato . April 3, 2014 . 5:03pm

Some developers celebrate their games with simple cakes. Some celebrate them with themed food. But Bandai Namco decided to be a little more… luxurious. While the publisher already celebrated Tales of Symphonia‘s 10th anniversary last year, it didn’t stop them from doing all of the above, and then some, aboard a luxury restaurant cruiser. Dengeki Online gives us a look at the festivities.

The party took place aboard the cruiser restaurant “Symphony Classica,” shown above, to celebrate the 2nd year anniversary of the Tales Channel program on Bandai Namco’s official NicoNico channel. 40 lucky fans were invited to the festivities.

The event featured five guest voice actors from the Tales of series, who participated in a Q&A session, a quiz show, and prize giveaway, where fans received things like the latest PlayStation Vita model and a western version of a Tales of series set as a collector’s item.

Bandai Namco also used the occasion to provide a closer look at Tales of Asteria and Tales of Link for viewers on their NicoNico Live stream.

They concluded the event with a nice buffet full of food from the Tales of series, such as Mabo Curry, Tomato à la Mode, and Cheese Soup. And cake, lots of cake.

    …..THAT….IS……HEAVEN! :D

  • JustThisOne

Wow, was Jay super popular, or something? I’m a bit surprised.

  • JonathanisPrimus

“where fans received things like the latest PlayStation Vita model”

Based on that JUMP announcement, they were probably better off giving them 3DSes.

    • Pdugna

not really? Vita can still play most of the Tales of, Spin offs and still has Tales of Heart and Innocence

    • WingsOfEternity

These guys are in Japan, you know… where there are actually some really good Vita games?

      • JonathanisPrimus

… Okay? All I’m saying is that it’s weird to give out Vitas when the next handheld Tales game is on another platform.

        • Kenyah

Well, Namco loves Vita though :^)

    • God

Either way, they make giving away a Ps Vita sound so casual…

  • Frank Bautista

Am I reading it wrong? Tales of 10th anniversary… last year? Tales of Phantasia was released in 1995. The Tales of series turns 20 NEXT year.

    • Wappuli

A small mistake from Sato, last year was Symphonias 10th anniversary.

      • Sato

Doh, yeah, totally missed that by accident. Fixed!

  • Ren Yuumei

a western version of a Tales of series set as a collector’s item.

  • Rocco

I find that promotion picture way too Symphonia heavy. Can we share the birthday love among the many beloved games that made up the entire series instead?

    • Skye Johnson

True, but it makes sense, considering the release of the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. They’re just further celebrating Symphonia’s 10th Anniversary.

  • Roberto

    Tales of boats

  • Jay seems random… And he’s from one of, if not least popular Mothership games. I’m sure Grune is more liked.

  • stephane3012

    I wish they invited me

  • Luis Camargo

Am I the only one that imagined a Tales of Mario Party because of the title ?

  • Spirit Macardi

This is one of those things that makes me envious of Japan, not just in a “I wish we had this” sense, but also in a conceptual sense.

I mean, this is a big extravagant celebration done purely for a single game series. That’s something you never see here in the west. The closest thing we have is the Spike VGAs, and that’s hardly a “classy” affair.

This is something that was put together purely to celebrate the games and its fans; nothing but good will attached to it. You’d never see that here, and it’s rather depressing that it has to be that way.

    • The Watcher

two different countries, two different ideologies.

      • Spirit Macardi

No duh… The point is that I wish there didn’t have to be two different ideologies.

  • RedSunset

for those wondering, Jay is there on the cake and among the display because his voice actress is there on the panel. everyone on the panel voiced one of the characters on the cake.

    • Pinkemon

Ooh. Yeah, now it makes sense. I was already wondering why this specific set of characters was chosen.

  • I really hope the cook for this buffet was dressed like the Wonder Chef

  • CirnoLakes

    40 very, very lucky fans. I’m so jealous. ;_;

It seems like Japan gets all of these exclusive celebrations for their games. When we don’t even get all of the games localized. Why doesn’t my country love Tales games enough to do something like this?

It seems like every time some awesome celebration of something amazing like Tales happens, it’s Japan exclusive. And every time I ask why we don’t have things like this, I hear that it’s because “Americans don’t like this”. Well why don’t we have this good of taste. Things like this seem like a dream come true, I wish I was one of those 40 people. What a classy, amazing celebration. Namco really value their franchise doing things like this.

I really wish I was really rich. I would find a way into each and every one of these events. Wealth has a way of doing things like that. Also, I’m sure they’d value my opinion and presence if I were rich and I bought a whole bunch of company shares.

Actually, I want to be a trillionaire. So I can build my own country, between Japan and Hawaii in the middle of the ocean or something. It would have all the best things about Japan and America and other countries, with none of the problems. And any and all amazing events and things that happen in Japan would happen there.

    Does anyone have a trillion dollars to spare? I promise I’ll put it to kind of good use. ;_;
