Phantasy Star Online 2 Es Open Beta Is On Android Now

By Eugene . April 3, 2014 . 1:31pm

Phantasy Star Online 2 es, the mobile version of Phantasy Star Online 2, is now in open beta on Android, with the iOS version to follow soon. The mobile version is set in the same world and period as the online game.

The open beta is also hoping to be a short one, in a good way. If there are no big problems arising within the open beta, the game intends to transition to full service soonest possible. The smartphone version connects with the regular online version on your Vita or PC—you’ll be able to import your online character into the mobile version, and some items found or experience gained within the smartphone app will transfer over to your main character. You’ll also be able to use your own character within the app itself.

While the game intends to mimic the Phantasy Star Online 2 experience as best as it can, there are a few changes. Don’t panic if you’re seeing what appear to be cards in the above photo, which reminds social game players of the staple collectible card mechanic found in most smartphone titles.

These are “chips”, which you’ll bring into battle set into hotbars to use as a fast and easy way to access them, such as weapons or healing items. You can get more such “chips” either in battle, or as part of scratch cards, and they’re capable of being synthesized into stronger variants. Some of these chip cards will require you to activate them with chip points, while others will activate when their conditions are met.

The game also runs on an energy system, which replenishes itself over time. You’ll be able to get items to replenish it if you want to keep playing though, and each quest you embark on will cost a certain amount of energy. Ok, so that’s totally a regular social game mechanic.

As part of the launch of the open beta, both new characters and those imported from the online version will get a new katana called Harisen, while linking accounts gets you even more stuff.

Phantasy Star Online 2 es is in open beta on Android right now, with iOS expected to follow soon.

So is this supposed to be more like ‘a minified version of PSO2 that you can play on the go’ or ‘a mobage that gives you in-game rewards in PSO2’? I’d prefer the first, but I could settle for the second.
(Well, I could if I could play mobages, but the stamina systems always make me upset because I like playing in long, sporadic bursts.)

    • Crevox

Both, it’s not the actual PSO2 game. It has its own story/system/gameplay adapted for phones.

  • Ace Trainer Chris

My Galaxy S3’s not among the compatible phones that can play it. :(

    • Brandonmkii

My S3 can totally play it, not sure why yours isn’t.

      • Ace Trainer Chris

Trying to install it gives me a “This item cannot be installed in your device’s country.” message.

You don’t have to be rooted.

        • Ferrick

install apk installer, download the apk, profit, and please don’t root unless you know what you’re doing

        • Brandonmkii

Just download the .apk file seperately. We non-Japanese can’t get it right from the store.

  • I just want the actual game. ;_;

      • Ace Trainer Chris

Hope you know that that version is IP blocked.

        • vault2049

Yep, even the website is IP blocked. At least for South America.

          • Captain Levi

            It works for me. (Europe)

          • Ferrick

you can open their site, but you CAN’T play their games, asiasoft only allow gamers in Asia with South East Asia regions as an exceptions

          • Captain Levi

I wonder what’s the point of this.
            Hah, mystery.

        • Kumiko Akimoto

          Noooo all is lost

I just hope we can get SCHTHACK to figure out a PSO2 server because that seems to be the only way we can play it

  • Lolzandstuff

Meanwhile on the US and Europe side…

  • CirnoLakes

And we still, still don’t have the game. On any platform.

    Please, SEGA. If you can afford to port the game to so many platforms, surely you can localize the game. ;_;
