To conclude the Nintendo Direct presentation for Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, we got a peek at two new characters, both Pokémon, in Charizard and Greninja, who’ll both be playable characters.

2014-04-08_164058

Previously, Charizard was one of the three Pokémon available to the Pokémon Trainer character. This time Charizard, one of the all-time favorite Pokémon, will be returning as his own character.

Greninja looks like he’ll have a bunch of speedy moves, which is pretty suitable for the Pokémon known for his speed and grace of a ninja.

As we all know, fire-type are weak against water, but with differences aside in Super Smash Bros., it’ll be interesting to see how Greninja, the final form of Froakie, one of the starters from Pokémon X and Y, will fare against the fire-breathing dragon.

I heard you kids like frog theme water ninjas.

Boy do I feel sorry for grass starter lovers. No not really : P

  • Minos

Everybody is making fun of Capcom lately… its obviously what that frog uses Shiek’s assets, but looks and moves completely different.

  • WatchGintama

I thought it was mewtwo when the energy ball launched. I was kind of disappointed, but greninja does look cool.

Also that psuedo-Palutena troll. My god!

    • s07195

Hahaha, yeah. I was like ‘no…really?’ then ‘hahaha’
      Lots of trolling today. XD

    • subsamuel01

I thought it was Mewtwo at first too, did not expect Greninja at all.

    • Chaos_Knight

I thought it was Mewtwo too and that Palutena trophy was well played. xD

      • Edzo04

if anything the fake palutena trophy strengthens the chance of her being a new fighter. i was very happy when i saw it was the pseudo version

      • NTaiyokun

        Trolling jerks

    • ronin4life

My little brother and much littler sister thought so too…
      I was thinking:
“There are water noises and it is hanging upside down…
      Y U think it is Mew2??”

I guess they weren’t alone. Quite a few people seem to have been thrown off. ^ ,^

  • subsamuel01

Good presentation overall, love the character reveals and the list of updates to older characters. Greninja was one of the strongest pokemon from X and Y, only curious why they decided to release the 3DS version so much earlier.

Nintendo: We don’t alway’s build up hype, but when we do, it’s sure to cause heart failure from overexposure to pure awesome.

You are very welcome. My pleasure in making it, haha.

  • Rasputing

Nice surprise. Day one main. Maybe not day two, I have the attention span of a monkey, but definitely day one.

didnt know about this rumor but palutena and shulk have been on my list for quite a long time now. a shulk reveal at e3 would be exciting as hell

  • Code

kwaa excuse my post, because I’m gonna gush about direct, haha. Although I do feel like it’s a bizarre character pick, I can’t help but <3 Greninja (◕ ヮ w <) Also costumes!! kwaaa so many new things, it's gonna be great!

Seriously so much news, and practically love all of it, everything was totally on mark; I've been able to hold back the hype til nowww but I don't think I can do it any more Σ(/◕ A ◕)~!! I'm glad they'll have 3DS version so soon~!!

  • 하세요

I don’t even miss Mewtwo anymore. Mutha-humpin’ Greninja hype.

  • https://twitter.com/BinksFrost Binks5

my favorite thing about this direct was probably the palutena trophy, but overall im very pleased and excited

    • AuraGuyChris

That was such a trolling…awesome moment.

  • KingGunblader

So I’m assuming Charizard is like Sheik and ZSS in that it’s no longer tethered to a trainer?

    • The Watcher

      That is correct good sir

  • NeptuniasBeard

Reading the comments on this site is therapeutic. Other sites’ comments are constantly whining about the 3DS version being released first just because it MAY hurt the Wii U versions sales. Saying that Nintendo is abandoning the WiiU because they rather not release an incomplete game for a quick buck. It’s like people don’t want awesome games, they want system sellers just for the sake of validation. It’s quite sad. But this site, and you people, give me hope. Thank you

    • ronin4life

What gets me about those complaints is how backwards the whole line of thinking is…

Simultanious release: 3DS competes against WiiU(And destroys it)

WiiU first: People WAIT FOR 3DS VERSION. WiiU sees poor sales EARLY IN THE YEAR and suffers even more from it.

WiiU Later: People buy 3ds version. MONTHS later, WiiU version releases and seems like a relatively fresh upgrade and buy that too.

The real reason why people are “complaining”: They WANT to see problems all the time, or they feel jilted for having to wait.

No more transforming characters means no more Pokémon Trainer, but we still get Charizard. And Greninja? Well, now we have the Pokémon to represent Gen 6 in Smash Bros.

  • Yan Zhao

Nintendo certainly knows how to give us a hype trailer.

  • http://playstationallstars.wikia.com/wiki/PlayStation_All-Stars_Wiki Sackchief

There should be a Pokémon representing each generation. Not just Gen 1 and 6. Seriously, these gens are each individual fanbases in themselves.

    • fireguardiancoty

Gen 4 is represented with Lucario. Plus there’s always the Pokeballs.

  • KyoyaHibari

That’s a rather unorthodox form of selection; 2 starters, not from the same gen, and no grass type to balance them out. Weird. I can only assume Sceptile will show up as the grass type.

    • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ Thespian Thief ♢

That’d be a nice lizard like team to have.

      • KyoyaHibari

Hahaha. I hadn’t even considered the relation between them all being reptiles XD. I figured Sceptile was from Gen 3 which is kind of in the middle, and he’s probably the most versatile grass type starter. Well, I hope he does indeed make the roster, moreso because I’m anal retentive about the rock-paper-scissors elemental game not being complete.

    • Vash bane

that would be a awesome choice (and even more seeing as that’s one of my fav grass types…. that reminds me I’ve yet to breed one in X/Y)

  • luckgandor

That’s a lot of Pokemon for one Smash Bros game. Wonder if Jigglypuff will be in it too, to represent the new Fairy type.

  • Kornelious

Huh, didn;t see that coming, I guess no one like Squirtle or Ivysaur :( Oh well Charizard is pretty awesome, but Greninja -_-

  • Eder García

DA DA DA!!! “whos that pokemon? ITS MEWTWO!!” DA DA DA!!!
“its Greninja! FUUUUUUCK!!!” DA DA DA

  • Just Tim

I hope Charizard has 2 Final Smashes:

    –Overheat
    –SEISMIC TOSS!!!

  • Eric Harris

I hope there are like 10+ more new characters yet to be announced. With the large pool of characters Nintendo can pull from, not that I hate these pokemon. But Charizard and Greninja seem pretty dull compared to other Nintendo legends they could use.

  • Xekyo

I think for the first time since I started playing Pokemon when it first came out, I failed at recognizing a Pokemon. :C.
