Zero Suit Samus And Sheik Return As Separate Characters For Super Smash Bros

By Sato . April 8, 2014 . 3:25pm

Previously, Samus and Princess Zelda appeared with separate forms with Zero Suit Samus and Sheik. Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that the two will indeed be returning, except this time, they won’t be changing forms—they’ll return as their own characters.

Zero Suit Samus will focus more on kicking and will also have a better recovery compared to Samus. Shiek, on the other hand, will have two new moves, a bomb toss attack and an acrobatic move.

Yeeeeeeees zero suit samus is back!!!

  • Oh Sammy…. you have just pleased almost the entire Internet…. *pants*…
I did main Samus/ZSS in Brawl, but having this freedom of choice for both these duel sets of characters is really something I’m happy to see.

However I will wholeheartedly understand if there’s people out there that wanted their Zelda with their Sheik, and their Samus with their ZSS, though even still, this goes to show that they’re more than happy to flesh out each individual character more, which in all honesty I think is pretty neat.

  • TheGioG

Hot damn, Samus is just as gorgeous as I remember her being in our last little get-together back in Brawl. In the words of Spike Spiegel himself:
“I love a woman who can kick my ass.”

  • John Hayabusa

My goodness! Zero Suit Samus is hot!

  • dracometeo

new character…… charizard and greeninja at the end of the LIVE

    • YoshEE

I kind of guess Charizard will be playable but not Greninja. What a surprise.

      • Tetris

        They’re both playable fighters.

        • YoshEE

I know, just saying I never expect Greninja as playable.

  • SirRichard

I really like this idea, because in Brawl, Samus’ two forms played so differently that you either had to be good with two different characters or just never use the respective Samus’ FS to be in top form all the time. Definitely going to give the new ZSS a try, the jet boots look amazing.

  • NeptuniasBeard

When Sakurai first said that ZSS wasn’t returning, I felt a punch in my gut. Good trolling Sakurai! Sheiks return is a bit bittersweet. I was beast with BOTH Zelda and Shiek, and it was nice to change strategy on the fly. But the two new moves also sounds awesome. Can’t control… the HYPE!

    • They have to bring her back. The guy:girl ratio would be dreadful without her

  • NTaiyokun

Technically Bayonetta for Smash Bros. Confirmed

    • xzeldax3

Or at least a costume for her.

  • Jason

“That’s why we also gave her a pair of jet boots”

They also gave her a pair of double d’s

  • PreyMantis

Man, I was hoping for other new characters, but this is still great. Can’t wait for the secret characters.

  • Chaos_Knight

She’s HOT! Incoming Rule 34 everyone! Prepare yourselves!

    • WyattEpp

“Incoming”? You’re like a decade too late to be saying that. :<

      • Chaos_Knight

But she will have high heels though. :<

  • KingGunblader

As someone who mains both Samus and Zelda, this pleases me greatly. I was greatly curious about how that would work in these games, and I couldn’t be happier with the answer.

So I guess all that’s left is… ZERO LASER.

  • Karin Shita

  • Audie Bakerson

Just from a game design view, the heels are… wrong.

She doesn’t attack exclusively with kicks (in which case it would make the actual hit zone clear), so bright contrasting colors on the feet, which draw attention there, seems like a bad choice.

    • Slayven19

I see what you mean, but maybe she will have more kick attacks now.

    • XaviIniesta

We see a couple of new kick moves in the trailer. Who knows what her full skillet will look like. The yellow colors are on her wrists as well though. But honestly, I don’t think it’ll be a problem focusing on her attacks. The ones that aren’t kicks will probably mostly be with her plasma gun, which creates a strong attention grabbing effect.

  • Slayven19

They made her super sexy int his, she has a more mature face this time around.

  • this pleases me

  • Amalaira

So, are they going to make Zero Suit’s jump obnoxiously high so that her aerials are basically shit? Her short-hop was as high as basically every other character’s NORMAL jump, and it was not cool at all.

Also, still glad to have her back, and also glad to see Sheik. It’s nice they aren’t going to have them in the same character, because it was sort of silly.

  • ZnTxn

So instead of transforming into Sheik, Zelda now calls her armor from spirit tracks Stand? This pleases me.

  • Guest

She looks so badass! She is probably more powerful this time around kicking left and right. I’ll do my best with both, this character and armored Samus!

  • jeka69

What the hell does “Zeroes In” mean? She zeroed herself out?

    • XaviIniesta

Zeroes in means locking on/closing in on something, I believe.

  • Dom

So they basically wasted two character slots by separating these two characters from their previous forms….?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s exactly a wrong move since Zelda and Shiek and Samus and Zero Suit had pretty different move sets. But the developers kept saying that the quantity of their roster isn’t going to be much bigger than brawl’s roster, which is kiiiinda saddening.

Though, if I see Isaac in their from Golden Sun, that’d be all I need.

    • Kaihedgie

Ugghh. I tire of these “wasted slot” comments.

It’s only “wasted” to you because it wasn’t the character you wanted. They’re not wasting anything

    • Kouji Tamino

It’s not a “wasted” slot. It probably takes barely any more effort to make them separate characters instead of transformations, so they aren’t hogging some imaginary slot that someone else could have taken.

    • XaviIniesta

Making them separate slots probably doesn’t “take up an extra slot”, seeing as they’re not limited by any specific slot number, and may very well have been counted as two characters all along in terms of game balance.

Aside from that, it’s been heavily requested for a long time so that the characters get a 4th special move instead of wasting it on a transformation in case you only play one of those characters. Well in Samus case it worked differently.

  • Yan Zhao

Sakurai trolled the shit out of me by saying ZSS wasnt in lol. Glad she’s in, she is gorgeous as hell in this game.

  • Superior Spider-Man

Nooooo! Zelda/sheik was my second main and I used them both effectively! Separating them ruins it.

  • J_Joestar

    Stupid Sexy Samus! >_<

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

      ….. Bunny Suit Samus?^_^

    • Anthony Birken

    • MSJ

      DAT bunny-girl Samus <3

  • Kornelious

    …..DAT ZERO SUIT! <3

  • Jettythesunfish

I recently started using Zero Suit Samus. This pleases me. Loving the Bayonetta-looking boots.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I am waiting for Bayonetta vs Zero Suit Samus time lol.^_^

  • LaserVision

The ability to check out ZS Samus in HD may be the biggest selling point of the WiiU version

    • Vash bane

      • Алексей Гришин

        Too Bayonettish…

      • Testsubject909

I now have a great desire to purchase this game.

  • Spirit Macardi

What I find interesting is how they made note that Zero Suit Samus now has jet boots. That’s something the character has never had in any of her appearances in her own series…

Much like Pit being redesigned and given new weaponry for Brawl, I wonder if this may be a hint at something yet to come~

  • Vash bane

wait zero suit will be focused on kicks? not her whip/beam thing anymore?

hm her old move set was fun but I kind of hoping they would make her less squashy

hm I google it seems she still has it but she also has something new. sheik looks awesome in the wii u version

  • fairysun

We all can agree here. Zero Suit Samus is the only female game character that is smeaxy without the need to reveal a single skin below the neck.

    • XaviIniesta

There are other characters like that with similar outfits, like Mitsuru from persona 4 Arena.

That’s not to say that such skin tight outfits are less revealing than many others that show some skin, and not much else.

    • Testsubject909

A full body suit doesn’t really-…. I mean she looks pretty much naked since it’s completely form fitt-… I mean…

You really should know what I mean.

  • Brimfyre

    Is her beauty mark gone?

If it is, and with the jet boots, I think this could double as a teaser for a new Metroid game, possibly a Samus Aran game, sans Suit.

    • XaviIniesta

      It’s still there.
