By Ishaan . April 9, 2014 . 4:43pm

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has received an update patch that brings “more than 100 balance adjustments” across all characters, according to Sony. A full list of patch notes for the update can be viewed here.

Additionally, the update also unlocks third costumes for Zeus and Isaac, for all players that currently own them. If you don’t own them, Sony are discounting the Graveyard DLC pack with both characters to $1.99. This sale will last until April 22nd.

And somehow it’ll still end up being a pretty broken game. Still I’ll take it if only to pop the game back in again.

    • Vash bane

I was thinking about getting this who’s broken?

      • DaiRaiOh

Online wise, Kratos can be just a monster because of the scoring system. Easily gets multi kills with his level 1 on account of it being fast with good range. His level 3 however is the biggest issue. If one knows exactly what they’re doing, it’s not uncommon for somebody to get around 5-6 kills at least during it which just gives them massive massive lead that’s hard to catch up to.

        • Vash bane

oh thanks for the info. I remember on a forum (or youtube) where someone mentioned every time they see kratos they quit but they never explained why

          • fearlubu

Kratos is just too op. His moveset is great, fast, and has good range. I believe the problem is he still gains too much AP (which fills up the super meter).

Honestly kratos players arent so bad if you know how to play. In terms of good players, I’d watch out for those blasted raiden and dantes. Then again, it really depends on the players.

        • fearlubu

You should expect 5-6 kills with a lvl 3 super unless its one of those autokills. I think his lvl 1 super about the same as sly or fat princess’s. It sure isnt much faster than other lvl 1 charge supers and the sword’s range is about the same as murphy.

I think the problem with kratos is that even after patching (idk about this most recent one) he still gains AP too quickly. That and he has a good moveset, with good range, and good speed.

I know a lot of negative people are just gonna say that the patch is useless because it doesn’t add Crash, Spyro, etc. but I think it’s cool they actually still support the game. I wasn’t expecting any more patches let alone one this size plus this may also make way for a sequel down the line hopefully.

It’s more like Sony Santa Monica finally hit a dead end with their God of War and remembered this game still exists. Honestly with how little attention this game got after Superbot was removed from the project I lost interest. I don’t care that Spyro and Crash aren’t in it cause they aren’t Sony’s property. I would have appreciated more characters from Sony exclusives like HDN, WKC, Legend of Dragoon, etc.
The real problem with this update is that its to late, the game success was bittersweet as the roster was only ok given the number Sony’s exclusive IPs, the first 2 dlc characters showed more interested, and then Sony Santa Monica killed the hope for this game by introducing another character from their own game (zeus) and a 3rd party character. At this point not enough people really care about the game anymore compared to any other fighting game.

I’m still salty about them cancelling Dart.

    • Raharu95

Dart from Legend of Dragoon? ‘ ‘

      • BossBullet

      • hazelnut1112

Dart and Abe from Oddworld were cancelled to make way for the two most requested and not bland characters. Zeus and Isaac.

    • GH56734

They cancelled tons of additional stages.

    • JoJo_718

That was so depressing, they should’ve launched him instead of Zeus and Isaac..

  • Crevox

Surprised they still did some work on it despite everything being pretty much “done” in regards to the title, and Mr. Killian being gone. Good for them.

  • KyoyaHibari

    Woah. No words.

  • Roberto

    took some time but finally
but i still would like some new characters

  • subsamuel01

Played this game a ton during the Beta and when it launched, after I platinum the game I literally lost all motivation to play. Might give it a shot again.

  • Kornelious

“Additionally, the update also unlocks third costumes for Zeus and Isaac”…………What about Kat?
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m suprised they are still updating this, though I wish they could’ve made the full roster. The possibilities could’ve turned this game into a grand slam! :(

    • Slayven19

Did she even have a 3rd costume?

      • Kornelious

I believe so, it was her maid costume I think

    • hazelnut1112

She gets no costume and also gets nerfed to hell. I mean bad, so many nerfs.

      • Kornelious

They NEFED her!?………..She was like my second favorite character :(

  • PreyMantis

It’s too late, now. Smash Bros 4 is coming out, so it almost doesn’t really matter anymore…

  • KingGunblader

As significant as this update is, I’m afraid it’s quite the case of ‘too little, too late.’

EDIT: Okay, maybe not too little, but definitely too late.

  • NTaiyokun

I’ve just been meh on the whole thing. Battle Royale would have been one of the few games where I’d be perfectly fine if they copied smash bros.

The biggest turnoff for me is how the fight system works. I know it’s “innovative” but having only three moves that can actually theoretically “hurt” people doesn’t feel right (Polygon Man doesn’t count, if you know what I mean). Smash bros at least gives me the satisfaction of seeing actual DAMAGE done with every attack, even if it can’t kill on the spot. Having a meter fill up doesn’t feel the same.

  • fearlubu

I knpw this is too much to ask, but make a sequel, sony. Give it a good dev team with a good budget and don’t fcuk up again.

  • Yan Zhao

Balance patches will not fix this games biggest flaw and the reason no one takes it seriously: The really stupid super-only KO system.

  • hazelnut1112

The game was enjoyable at first but that Direct yesterday really drove away any attention from this game.

This game had so much potential and so many things that could work. I was pretty excited knowing that they were going to copy smash because of the Wii that was in Superbot’s offices. We ended getting a pretty fun game from time to time, but the biggest letdown was the roster. It was so lackluster with many missed characters Sony could have dug up.

  • Somebodyissilent

I love how fail the people complaining about this game are. First they are upset it “copied” that gar… smash, than they are upset it did not copy smash more. It’s pathetic and clear they are just look for a reason to hate.

    • hazelnut1112

Thins is, this game had so much potential. Plus I would have been way more than okay if they did try to copy smash. It would have been a more enjoyable game with a good combat system.
Sure they tried to do something a little more different, but the real trouble comes from the roster itself.

      • Somebodyissilent

I hope the next one is more like Dissidia. That gameplay will work better.

  • Repede91

The timing on this seems odd… Sony is also giving this game more support in the FGC again too, getting this on the Runback so long after people seemed to lose interest. Perhaps they are prepping for a sequel announcement come June??? Maybe I`m just overly optimistic…

  • Spirit Macardi

Really, I think the problem with this game is that it completely misunderstood what has made Smash Bros. so successful.

Sony basically used this game as a cheap advertising ploy. Putting in characters not because fans knew and loved them, but because they had new games coming that they wanted to draw attention to. Sure they had some favorites like Ratchet and Clank, but they were overshadowed by characters like reboot Dante, Raiden, Big Daddy, and the entirety of the God of War franchise.

Look at Smash meanwhile: Upcoming game or not, the characters that fans know and love will be in it. Even characters that had been niche or nearly forgotten at the time like Ness, Pit, or Marth and Roy. Hell, the whole reason the Wii Fit trainer is being added is because no one had expected it. There’s a clear vision with a ton of heart behind it, and fans can tell that.

Perhaps Sony will learn that if they ever decide to make a sequel.

    • Somebodyissilent

      Uh huh…

  • I don’t own the game but isn’t it too late to be announcing this?
