Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Now 25% Off (That Was Quick)

By Viet Do . April 10, 2014 . 10:05pm

‘Twas only three weeks ago that the Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster released in North America on the PS3 and PS Vita for $39.99. With an 85/100 Metacritic Score (yeah, yeah, I know – Metacritic score is moot sometimes), the game received a relatively positive reception for a remake. Impressively, there’s already a price drop on the game. Color me surprised. Just yesterday, GameStop cut ‘er down by a healthy 25% to $29.99. While it’s not exactly a brand new AAA title by any stretch, I personally thought the first price cut would show up a month or two later.

If you’re a fan of story-driven Telltale games like The Walking Dead, the latest installment of The Wolf Among Us – Episode 3: The Crooked Mile – released Tuesday. There are two more episodes slated for release, and you can either buy them each separately as they come out or buy all five in a package deal for $24.99. For the full episode package, the price dropped to $14.99 today at GameFly Digital, and after a stacking coupon, the price drops further to $11.99 – the lowest price we’ve seen yet for The Wolf Among Us. Deals are a bit lighter this week, but some decent pickings are available below.

Just speculating here, but I kind of wonder if it has to do with the half digital nature of the Vita version. The usual minor price drop on used wouldn’t fly when only half the game can be returned, while a drastic difference between new and used price to compensate for used only being half the purchase would possibly lead to questions resulting in new copies being sold more than used. At least that’s my thought on why they cut the price so fast.

    • Zero_Destiny

I didn’t even really think about the second hand market. Oh wow, that’s definitely a game that people will really need to think about twice before purchasing used …..

    • Kamakuma

Yea that’s what has my mind wondering about. Since yea I know it’s their job ect to sale you games but selling half a game? Just shows you never know what you’d spend your money for these days. However the only redeeming thing I can say Is the half you can get used can always get refunded. (Poor excuse yea v.v)

  • Tenabrus

crap that’s what I get for buying it so soon…

  • Asukami

I walked into Gamestop today intending to pick something else up, then saw a huge “Now $29.99!” sticker on this game. Picked it up right away! Definitely a great deal for FFX & X-2.

  • dammit. Ah well. Still worth the $50 i put down for it.

  • Zoozbuh

Yes!! So glad I bought the Tales collection for full price instead of this one. I knew it would drop in price pretty quick, since it’s such a popular and beloved set of games. I’m already seeing the same thing happen for UK/Europe

  • mingledorff

Just a sale, not an actual price drop. Though it wouldn’t be surprising if it does price drop a few weeks after the sale ends. I guess we will see! – A GameStop employee.

Yeah, Symphonia HD was also on sale for $29.99 from Best Buy like a week or 2 ago. It’s not that these games are not worth it. Most games drop in prices very quickly these days, especially for HD collection. I got Ico/SotC for $40, I remember it dropping very quick. Well, for FFX/X-2 HD, I got the $80 CE from the S-E store. though I’m not crazy about the packing w/ the artbook and disc together. The regular LE has a nicer cover, but also the same packaging if I’m not mistaken. Would’ve preferred a box to hold and take out the game disc more conveniently.

Can someone confirm? I found out after the fact, but if people are waiting for the Wolf Among Us season pass to go on sale on PSN, and they see the individual episodes available too, I read you don’t need to buy those. The season pass will cover everything.

I was dumb and bought ep.1 first and then the season pass. Luckily I got it on sale, on top of Plus, but still annoying if that’s actually true >.>

    • Aoshi00

From PSN or XBLA, ep 1 was $4.99, I think Season Pass only includes ep 2 – 5, considered DLCs for ep1, at least that’s how I bought it. If you’re purchasing the Season pass via the game menu (and not directly from PSN/XBLA), you need ep 1 first. I got it on day 1, and both ep 1 & Season Pass were on sale a while ago :( Just d/led ep 3, haven’t had time to play yet.

      • new_tradition

Thanks for the reply. If that’s true, that makes me feel better ^^

  • RajaNaga

Probably because they’re kind of overrated games >_>

    • Алексей Гришин

      Still better than FFXIII trilogy.

      • Herok♞

Everyone likes and dislikes different FF games is it really necessary to stir the pot?

        • Алексей Гришин

Okay okay, next time I will use “IMHO”.

          • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

You don’t need IMHO, everything you say is your opinion on something. Unless you’re stating a cold hard fact like FFXIII-3 is the worst selling FF in the history of FF. Everyone on Siliconera get’s so butthurt if people don’t use IMHO, which is juvenile. Everyone recognizes it’s an opinion if it is positive, but as soon as it’s a dissenting opinion, call the butthurt police, and begin down voting…

          • Herok♞

The problem with that is that isn’t a fact theathrythm and other spinoffs didn’t do the kind of numbers LR did so yeah, fact checking goes a long way, the worst selling game would have to be FF no knows about, LR was one of the 10 best sellers in the U.S. for February. it was the lowest selling FF13 game but not the lowest selling FF game.

          • I don’t think you can down vote any more. Thank god/siliconeramods.

  • I saw this coming.

  • Kamakuma

And while we are on the subject I’m gonna go on the ledge here and assume getting the PS3 version would be best as I don’t have much space left on my Vita… *Sniffles and looks at 64 gig that’s out of his reach*

  • lett303

I need that price drop on PSN cuz I like mine digital

    • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Well X-2 is digital if you get it on Vita. Only get physical for X.

  • MrRobbyM

Hmm, I’m not a big fan of FF X. Hell, I rented it from Gamefly and no matter how many times I try to get into the game, I never get past 10 hours. But I really want to like the game seeing that so many people adore it. I feel compelled to buy this..

  • leingod

Does that mean anything? Low sales or something? Thought there was some hype around this game. At least I got it on launch day.

    • Aspenharls

Not sure why, but this made me laugh way harder than I should have.

  • Still waiting for $10..

  • Guest

    I paid $35 total when I had a coupon from Amazon. =]

  • Jeffrey Thrash

The only reason I put off buying this game is because my free time is currently swamped in other RPGs, like Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Bravely Default (hard mode). That, and I am hoping that I can save my money to buy a Vita and get the Vita version of this game (along with about 10 months worth of PS+ Vita downloads that I really want to play at some point).
