You Can Blade & Soul In English Right Now, With A Little Ingenuity

By Eugene . April 13, 2014 . 11:00am

We haven’t heard a peep from NCSoft and Team Bloodthirst on the Western release of real-time martial arts online game Blade & Soul since 2012. This, despite the game going strong in Korea, and recently, in China as well. If you’ve forgotten what the game looks or feels like, have a gander at the English trailer above.

In response, fans have stepped up by releasing a patch file that lets interested players sign up and play on the Korean or China servers and then play it in English. You can follow the instructions on the site and dive into the wuxia-style combat the game provides.

With NCSoft releasing Wildstar later this year, and no word yet on any sort of English release date, this may be one of the only ways to play the game for the foreseeable future. We’ll keep you posted if we hear more on an English release.

Blade & Soul is out now on PC in Korea and China.

    What about the JP version?

    • EQeE

JP doesn’t play online games as much as Koreans or even Westerners.

      • 하세요

China plays more than Westerners, as well. Them Chinese gold farmers are no joke.

    • AokiShizuku

You’re able to download the client and do character creation now but servers won’t be up till May 16th. It’s F2P from May 16th to May 19th. From then on there’s a monthly fee.

  • urbanscholar

This is great! Thanks for the heads up. I’m still a bit disappointed that an official English release hasn’t come or will.

This is one of a few MMOs I’d like to get into, well will now get into ; )

  • mojack411

Is this the same English patch that was updating when the Chinese version started? If so is it an actual complete translation now with Skill and Dialogue translations and not just the Prologue?

    • Ultimaniacx4

According to changelog: “most of the critical UI done”

  • Cazar

    >lets interested players sign up and play on the Korean or China servers

Are you able to do this legally and without the help of a third party yet?

    • Wappuli

Dunno about Korean, but Chinese version is free to play and doesn’t have region IP block, so yes for that.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

Korean you have to buy an account, live in korea and have an id and cellphone from there, or know someone from korea who does and can make an account for you.

  • Quan Chi

I wish there was an offline version of this.

    • darke

Yeah. Though it’s pretty much a single-player game if you don’t understand the language the rest of the server is speaking; on the other hand you still have to suffer with ping-induced lag.

  • Crevox

We need a post like this for PSO2.

  • Fainaru Luna

why does it take so long for these korean mmos to come over to NA?

    • Dystopiq

Because NCsoft is pushing Wildstar in the west. They aren’t going to jeopardize that by releasing BnS. More than likely we’ll see info once Wildstar releases and sells.

    • Fen Y

Because translating Korean MMOs is actually pretty hard, if you want it done right.

I’ve worked on translating some of them to english, and let me tell you, many of them are done by people that have no clue how to handle databases or files and never made it easy to translate.

All text is in one big file… or 432+ different tiny files, without context or reason. I’ve had a game where skill names were in a total of 52 files, And of course, the dev had no documentation and didn’t know where anything was. So we’ve had to sift through 400k words to find what we needed.

  • Captain Levi

The only bad thing is the incredibly high ping.

At least for me. 500 to 700 ms on Chinese server.

  • Ultimaniacx4

Just in time to take my mind off of how AMAZING Black Desert looks.

    • Dystopiq

I was excited for this and AA. Then BD showed up and stole the show

      • Kenny Loh

AA? can i know what game is AA?

        • Neodymium

          ArcheAge I assume.

          • Syde Tokai

He means artiificial acadamy of course

        • Dystopiq

  • ztype

Might try this, can’t wait for this in the west though..and ArcheAge (Which is closest to release) and of course Black Desert.

  • Dystopiq

This game is fun to play. What is not fun is playing with 200+Ping.

  • Yan Zhao

I was looking forward to this game since 2012, and NCSoft is really ruining their image by pulling this silence crap.

  • Crimson_Cloud

I played the alpha built. Really nice atmosphere, engaging story and great gameplay. One of the best character customizations in the mmo yet. The clothings are really stylish.

Since no word of the official English, I’ll give this one a go. Been itching to play the full game. ˇˇ

  • shuyai

is it worth it though? High ping and cant communicate in a mmo

    • 324234

You can join a server with other English speakers but the 300ms ping is unplayable, maybe if you live in a close area.

  • rock

my god just release this game in the NA already!!! i mean i have played the chinese open beta with the English translations and such and sadly there isnt nearly enough translated to fully enjoy the game also the lag is horrible

i mean i love the game and been waiting for the game to comeout in NA for years now and at this point its just getting annoying wanting to play so bad and every post you see its about everywhere else BUT NA..

still want this game and all in NA but my god the hold up is so annoying..

  • harmonyworld

Aww I really want to but I don’t know if I want to go through the trouble~

  • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

    OH YES!

  • Vash bane

ah if I decide to get a good pc. i’ll give this game go again haven’t played in along time(ofc back then I had no idea what the game was saying XD).

this is good for new players none the less
