Steam Spring Sale Alternatives: All The Other Deals While You Wait

By Viet Do . April 19, 2014 . 11:00am

Its Easter Weekend and this means you need extra excuses to avoid the family. If you’ve been waiting for Steam’s 2014 Spring Sale, you might just have to wait a bit longer as it looks like it won’t be arriving until end of April or early May. Having said that, lots of digital distribution retailer are having their respective Spring Sales, noteworthy ones being UK-based GMG and everyone’s favorite DRM platform, EA’s Origin.

Sarcasm aside, there are actually some strong deals available at EA’s “Gigabytes of Deals” Spring Sale, with last month’s AAA Titanfall already dropping by 20% off, and titles such as Mass Effect 3 going for only $5. Plus, the now offline able SimCity can be had for only $15 and you’ve got yourself some all around decent deals.

Over at GMG, our top picks would be Tomb Raider GOTY for only $6 and the excellent GRID 2 for the same $6. If you spot something that we should add at GMG’s “7 Days of Deals” Spring Sale, let us know and we’ll add to the list below. For Spring Sale game deals at GMG, don’t forget to use coupon O3H7FE-D4NFO0-F0LIGK to get an additional 20% off.

I would like to try TitanFall.
I will never get XBL however, have no intention of ever getting a PS4(should there be a MP sequel) and wouldn’t consider Origin…

MAYBE if it ever hits ~5-10$, Origin won’t seem so horrible a price to pay.

    • Kaetsu

I honestly wouldn’t even get it for 10 bucks. Dead Space was free on Origin and I still didn’t bother getting it because Origin.

      • ronin4life

Oh I am with you on that. But never say never.

        Origin isn’t even the only reason; Not too keen on buying ANYTHING from EA personally…^ ,^;;

I wish all digital distribution services took a page out of GOG’s book in regards to the DRM stuff. But oh, well.

Titanfall looks cool, I read someone mention it at the OT about how fun it was, and some articles comparing it to Unreal, the game piqued my interest. But being from EA the appeal diminish a lot!

  • If I wasn’t such a scared kitten I’d try Dead Space ( ._.) Watched a friend play it and I ran screaming from the room lol (My friends are always amused by my scared reactions). I couldn’t take it. I can’t wait to see the sales steam will have.

      1. Play horror games.
      2. Record your reactions.
      3. Upload to the internet.
      4. ?????
      5. Profit.

4.1: Hopefully have people view your video
4.2: Have people ridicule you/laugh at you/share the video to more people
4.3: Collect tons of hits and possible subscribers hoping you continue to pee yourself on screen
4.4: Have Youtube suddenly decide to flag your video for copyrighted material due to the gameplay footage shown
4.5: Lose all profit due to copyright infringement according to Youtube
4.6: Attempt to retrieve your profit through legal actions
4.7: Await for Youtube to respond from their automated systems.
4.8: Receive response from Youtube and have your video profit returned to you
4.9: Youtube repeats the process from 4.4 to 4.8
        5: Profit?

        • A tale I see all too often on youtube ( ;A;)

      • LOL! I’d be waay too embarrassed to know a bunch of people have seen me run screaming from the room over a video game ( ._.)

    • Testsubject909

Oh hey Okuni, haven’t seen you in a while.

Considering your icon. I take it you enjoyed Danganronpa?

      • Test! I’ve been so busy (>w < ) Hardly even time for games which I usually try to cut out some time of the day for haha. But I am now free so I'm able to do more than just glance over articles from my phone~

Yes! Ugh I can't wait for the second game (o_o ). I really loved it!

Also, GOG has been running a Battle of the Games promo, where people were able to vote for one group of games over the other. The winners were discounted by 75% while the losers were discounted by 60%.

In any case, the promo is now almost over, but for the last 48 hours, they are running all the sales one more time. If you’re interested, you can check out the list of games on sale here:

    • Good tip, will add to above.

This article’s thumbnail image in the front page has to be the largest I’ve seen posted here and without the usual rounded borders… :p

  • I recommend Castle of Illusions, especially at $4. It’s fun little game. It’s a simple platformer with a lot of charm. I know it’s a remake, but it’s kind of cool that this little downloadable game is so much better than Epic Mickey 1 & 2.

  • Chim_era

I would really love to play Sim City. But I don’t wont to instal Origin or support the evil empire. It’s killing me a little but I think I’m better off without.

  • Byron Kerrison II

Soooo why do they have sales like these?

I honestly can’t help but think it’s because of pirating… Am I wrong?

  • Testsubject909

And don’t forget the current sale on PSN, quite a few games for only 1$.

If you don’t have it yet, there’s the Sam and Max bundle for 1$, Monkey Island bundle for 1$, Tokyo Jungle for 1$, etc etc.
