If the Minato runs in the genes, does that mean that all of the Anti-Shadow Supression Weapons have the hots for Minato? And all the velvet room attendants?

  • MrJechgo

Wake me up when English-dubbed trailers are available…
(Yeah, yeah, I know, not Sili’s fault, but still…)

Seriously, if it’s coming this fall, shouldn’t the voicework be done by now? Beside, it’s not like Michelle Ruff and Vic Mignogna did a bad job for Yukari and Junpei back in P3. In fact, I’m still a bit surprised that even after 5 years (the time between the English releases of P3 and P4A), Tara Platt, Liam O’Brien and Karen Strassmen still sounded great as Mitsuru, Akihiko and Aigis.

    • Brion Valkerion

But its a trailer for the Japanese version… sooooo >.>

      • MrJechgo

I’m aware of that… which is why I question the lack of ANY English trailer when that version is coming out that fall, and not next year.

        • Elseria

A couple months ago, Erin Fitzgerald (Chie’s VA) mentioned that she was doing (or finished) her P4A2 recording. They’re likely about done with the voice work, but for some reason or another they haven’t bothered with inserting them into the trailers.
(http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/03/17/infamous-second-son-expectations-persona-4-goldens-chie-up-at-noon at ~25:30 is where she mentions it)

          • MrJechgo

Which is kinda awkward because EVERYONE in Japan is accustomed to the new characters by now, safe for Rise.

Atlus and ASW should start focusing on the Western market a bit more if they want to see copies fly of the shelves.

Is it so hard to make a trailer in English, similar to P4A, with the announcer presenting the 6 “major” P4 characters?

          • Elseria

Perhaps they’re waiting til it’s a bit closer to the English release date before trying to build hype? Regardless, I also found it a bit strange that their trailers so far have been undubbed.

          • Hexodious

I’m more surprised about the fact that Atlus USA didn’t do any effort at all on the dubbing part. To me, it seems that Atlus USA forced the trailers.

          • chroma816

They don’t really have to try and market this to the West, to be fair. Persona is no longer a niche title and P4A did fantastic over here, much better than Atlus thought it would (I know there was some sort of review here on this site that said that).

In any case, I’m sure Atlus doesn’t feel as though it needs to bother with the marketing simply because the combination of loyal fighting game fans + ready-to-buy-anything Persona fandom + the crossover of these being internet crawlers = the fans who will buy this already know about it.

    • DragKudo

Couple of months ago Michelle Ruff said that she was able to confirm she was re-voicing Yukari. So they are probably done by now. They are most likely waiting until E3.

  • Raw

My, my, Yukari-chan has grown in all the right places.

  • James Reilly

Shadow Yukari has her showering for her intro animation lol

  • Liamv2

Ah Yukari. Your outfit seems to get more and more ridiculous every time i see you.

  • AuraGuyChris

She better not cause a rift in the team at the very end again.

  • JohnThackr

“Gaudy Pink Sniper” is not that amusing, compared to the other nicknames. Oh well. They can’t all be Sis-con Bancho.

    • God

      Was that his japanese nickname?

      • X_Bacon

        Hagane no Siscon Bancho, yes.

        • God

Awww, Bancho sounds so much cooler than Kingpin…

  • God

I wonder what her shadow’s issue will be, since after The Answer, it would be pushing it a little to have it be Minato’s death again.

    • DragKudo

From the battle quotes it seems like her shadow is poking at her with that. ME did it to Aigis in the first one too.

      • God

Really? I don’t remember… was that on Aigis’s story mode or arcade mode?

        • DragKudo

Story mode right before She meets Elizabeth

          • God

            I’ll check it out later.

  • Nagi

    yukari the power ranger!

  • dknighti

5 second mark “Henshin a gogo baby!”

    • MrJechgo

Don’t you mean “Pink Ranger Power” XD ?

  • Mirai

I’m really disappointed Yukari didn’t say “despair” once in the trailer.

    • Hexodious

      Hope master race.

  • mike dickson

sooo why is tartarus a stage it looks awesome not gonna lie but why is it in the game tartarus disappeared last time i checked

    • DragKudo

You haven’t been keeping up with what little story they been giving us huh?

      • mike dickson

No can you fill me in on it a bit ?

        • DragKudo

Take place a day or two after (on my birthday) Persona arena.
Mitsuru and the gang are crucified like in p3 atop of tartarus. Yukari and Labrys come to their rescue. Junpei just so happened to miss his train and got caught up in the Red fog.

Nothing has been officially stated but theory is Tartarus is back because of a certain badass villain and the red fog. In the arcade mode SHO says you’re too late the world will change now!! and the screen starts shaking and the moon brightens up.

          • mike dickson

Thanks dude you made the story sounds even better lol

  • Oltheros

Nice that they brought back her Japanese VA

  • DyLaN

Did I miss something? She’s Wonder Momo now?

  • Anthony Birken

The PINK PRISM RANGER – Yukari Takeba!

  • Javier Casanova

    Yukari got that sex hair

  • Shane Guidaboni

Good. More room for me to like her.

  • pathos_of_new

I know this is a question of taste, so it shouldn’t be discussed, especially here, but… why do people like her? She is blandest of bland. I don’t mind her appearing in the game, it is just… why?…Her blandness stands out so much in the colorful bunch of other p3 characters.
P.S. Guys, I just asked you ‘why’. Don’t turn it into YukariFan ragefest. It is cheap. Just tell me your opinion. Thanks.

  • katchi

I don’t know if you were actually playing persona 3, Yukari has probably the most character development out of the entire cast.

  • Abysswalker90

    Actually it’s quite the opposite.

  • Aisha Lee

bland? If anything Yukari is one of the most realistic characters out of group. Sure she can be kind of a jerk at times but she’s honest which I feel adds to her character.

  • Nicolas Simonpietri

I like her when she’s desperate to see the MC again in The Answer. Usually, main cast j-rpg characters have no such extreme behavior.

  • Richard N

Just to chime in on why I like her; I thought she was a nice change of pace to typical first girl next door love interest. She isn’t instantly likable or have some cutesy gimmick to her, she’s kinda like you said: bland. In that she acts and has a personality of someone I can picture in real life and not just an anime waifu. She has mood swings and is unable to deal with her emotions and struggles with handling the pressure of her life and lashes out at others. But then she wises up and always apologizes and learns from her mistake. (something most people seem to ignore) Lashing out at Minato on the beach then apologizing. Lashing out at Aigis in FES, then apologizing. You know making mistakes and learning from them.

  • LaserVision

I’m very much pro-Yukari, and in my mind, she’s the true love interest of P3.

However I absolutely and completely understand why some people just cannot stand her.

  • pathos_of_new

I was….seven times. (both FES and PSP version :) I said it is a question of taste. Thank you for expressing your opinion. But can you tell me at least one personality trait of hers?… Compared to Mitsuru who is dependable, intelligent, distant, slightly above-it-all, slightly cruel, more mature on the outside and less on the inside, slightly annoyed, secretly rebellious Yukari is just kind of…pink?…And fluffy?… I sympatize with her loss the same as Mitsuru’s, of course.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

That’s a lie, she had about the same amount of character development as koromaru did.

  • katchi

I really don’t see it as a question of taste. Unless you do social links, none of the characters show that much growth compared to Yukari. Also, besides not having money, Yukari has every trait you just described in Mitsuru( except for the maturity and rebellious bit, I have no clue where you got that impression of Mitsuru). The most important Trait Yukari has is Loyalty which is especially evident in FES. Outside her social link, Yukari is probably the only character( well Aigis too) that has any real connection with the Protagonist.

  • katchi

And Korochan has more character Dev than the entire cast of persona 4, so I’d say that’s a lot.

  • pathos_of_new

I like Persona 4, but from certain point of view, it is, sadly, true… Unlike P3 the stories of characters are just their social links. For example, in P3 I knew what kind of person Junpei was even without his social link (before P3 PSP) and if you won’t do Yosuke’s social link in P4 you don’t really know what kind of person he is. After defeating his shadow, storywise his story ‘ends’. It depends on social link. And even after that…It is my opinion, of course.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

Too bad being 1 point higher then 0 isn’t that great. On 0 to 10 scale

  • pathos_of_new

Have you done Mitsuru social link?… ‘I want to get away from it all’ part?… :) No?… Okay, if you want me to agree with you so much, I’ll do it, just for you:
WITHOUT A DOUBT, YUKARI IS THE MOST DEVELOPED CHARACTER IN PERSONA3.
…Sounds kind of wrong still, no?

  • katchi

I’ll be fair with Persona 4, Teddie is pretty well developed, but that’s only because his social link is part of the main story.

  • DeathDias71

Well to go back to your original question on why people like Yukari. I like her because I can relate a lot to some of the experiences that she goes through. And I think it is incredibly believable how she reacts the majority of the time. I mean in such a unbelievable situation that involves Personas, Shadows and a time period that only certain people can experience…I have no idea how I would personally react to things like that. Yet in order for her to find out the truth about her Father she has to deal with one more crazy thing after another.

Its for me, like being in a situation where I don’t know how to react to it. And Yukari often feels like this to me…as she is often coping with things that a normal girl would never have to. I hope she is conveyed with a lot more confidence and maturity to show how she has finally come to terms with the events that have happened. I guess it is one of the main reasons I am looking forward to this game.

I like her for a lot of reasons, but I can see how people wouldn’t like her. For me, it is her motivations and how she moves forward with all of that is what makes her appealing to me.

  • katchi

not trying to make you think she’s the best character, I’m just saying she’s not bland or dull, and you can play the game without doing a single social link and see that there is more to Yukari than her initial bitchyness.

  • pathos_of_new

Maybe you are right that there is ‘more to her’. Thanks.

  • pathos_of_new

I agree with you. Funny thing, I always thought that the most interesting characters in P4 are mostly not your team members. For example, to me, Namatame is a really interesting character, but we don’t know much about him.

  • pathos_of_new

You are right about ‘relate to her’ stuff. This is exactly what I was thinking about. Unlike other characters who have essence, she, TO ME, feels the most like…’Mary Sue’ type…Sorry If I offended someone! I just noticed that people are divided are into two distinct groups: those who like to see a character similiar to them and those who like to see someone interesting, different from them. I always thought that Yukari is for people from the first group when other characters are for people from the second group. Persona 4, on the other hand, has a bunch of characters for the first group…

  • katchi

Agreed, the game never really explained how he descended to that level of zealotry, besides describing him to have a hero complex, but I don’t think that really was enough. Naoki was one of my favorite non- party social links, wish he was a party member sometimes.

  • pathos_of_new

You also love Naoki?… :) He is my favorite social link in P4, I think. I also wish for more Izanami screen time. Compared to Ryoji, she has none and to me she is BADASS.

  • DeathDias71

Well you’re right, people generally like characters based on what you said. Its basic psychology actually. But anyway. I don’t feel she is a Mary Sue type, but then again what I feel and what you feel when looking at a character is inherently different.

And at the same time it it one of the things I enjoy about the Persona series. There are different reasons that so many people play this game that I don’t think anyone is wrong in what they say and feel for the characters. And it also makes for discussions about the merits of a character or vice versa. Well that is assuming people can go past their own bias and actually be open to discussion…

  • Sanctious

Mary Sue characters are “perfect” characters. A Mary Sue is a character that is idealized, too perfect, without any real weaknesses. To call Yukari one would be incorrect. If anything, Mitsuru is closer to the Mary Sue archetype. She’s rich, intelligent, beautiful, can basically do anything and is seen as a perfect human being by others in the Persona universe.

Yukari, on the other hand, clearly has her issues. She’s afraid to open up to others. She lashes out when she feels frustrated. She’s not always sure how to handle her issues (she pursues the truth of her father but has a habit of avoiding her mother). She’s a believable character with real emotional development. Unlike Mitsuru, she’s not exceptional at academics either. If you don’t like Yukari, that’s your opinion. But, please, stop misusing words in an attempt to rationalize your dislike for her. You’re misusing the word Mary Sue and you just don’t like Yukari. That’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Mitsuru isn’t rebellious, by the way. Or, rather, she’s not necessarily
rebellious. You have to pursue her social link for her to stop being so
submissive to her family’s whims. You don’t have to do the same with
Yukari to see similar growth, as the main story does enough for her
(though doing so does help her patch things up with her mother slightly,
    IIRC).

  • katchi

Yea I was a little disappointed how they integrated her into the story, you can actually completely miss her entirely which is ridiculous considering she is the true antagonist. Don’t get me wrong I don’t HATE persona 4 but its not Persona 2 or 3.

  • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

Totally agree. She’s bland because she’s normal and realistic, and at the same time, it’s her number one appeal.

    THE TRUE WAIFU.

  • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com/ SilverSpades

The Answer made it pretty clear her and MC were fairly canon, I can’t say others would disagree.
