The Key To Atelier Shallie’s Battle System Are Burst Mode And Variable Strike

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea brings back familiar faces alongside new friends. Since you’ll have quite the troupe of characters, what better way to take out enemies than cooperative attacks? 4Gamer shares more on the co-op attacks and more.

In order to get into Burst Mode, you’ll need to fill up the Burst Meter by doing plenty of cooperative attacks against enemies. Since parties consist of six members, it shouldn’t be too hard to rack up the Burst Meter points.

Once you enter Burst Mode, your chained attacks won’t break. That means you can do more hits with increased power through Assist Attacks from the first two party members.

027 028

Once the third party member throws in their Assist Attack, it takes a special and more powerful form called a Variable Strike.

029 030

The Variable Strike starts out with two party members pulling off more attacks, followed by a powerful third attack with a special animation. The damage of the third strike varies according to the chain number and which character is performing it.

Thus, using the Burst Mode and its chains and Variable Strike, players can do massive damage to opponents.

    We Mana Khemia now!

    • Demeanor

The battle system from MK was soooo badass! Not to mention the music, out of this world.
Nothing like pulling off a massive party attack consisting of spikes emerging from the ground, a wolf of light becoming countless homing laser beams and sword skills cutting through dimensions. :D

      • Andar

“No on can stop this drill~!”
Mana Khemia’s balance between using both skills and items, switching characters for extra attacks and to allow them to recover, having to balance fighting with actual item crafting to make character stronger (both for equipment and increasing stats), and managing the turn-based system that involved extra attacks with their own unique turn orders, all while building up hits for that burst mode special…nothing like it.

Nice to see that Gust is continuing to mix in various elements from the older games while still trying to keep things fresh.

  • Liamv2

New Escha is even more adorable than before.

  • HellMuT

    Katla is so cute.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Going by that pic we are at least +4 years? Maybe 5?

      • HellMuT

I-I hope you’re not saying she’s too old now.

      • Duo Maxwell

        Isn’t she 18 now? I remember she’s 12 in the previous game.

      • Manny Being Manny

        She’s 18 now, and Escha is 24.

        • Kornelious

And apparently in the world of Atelier, Age doesn’t actually make you change appearance anymore once you hit 18 XD

  • Blanc

    Where is my Ayesha!? D:

  • Shippoyasha

    Pink Hair Master Race!

  • Loli Summoner

Where in the FUCK! is ayesha!?

    • M’iau M’iaut

She and Logy are shacked up after he got her in a ‘motherly’ way.

  • EtherealEarth

    Escha Malier?

    Not Escha “Fiscario”? :<

    • wererat42

One of the heroines getting married in canon? Never going to happen. It’s actually kind of a miracle they’ve even allowed her to age beyond adolescence.

      • EtherealEarth

Ah yeah. It’s just that Escha and Logy really suit one another, is all ><

  • So when can I just start throwing my money at this?

    • Zack

Well, the Japanese version comes out in mid July, so the English version will likely be released in March 2015.

  • Isuke-sama

I’m guessing Totori=Ayesha, Rorona=Escha. So who is the Meruru of Twillight series? Shallie doesn’t fit much.

  • MaximDualBlade

like atelier iris 3 and mana khemia?

    • XiaomuArisu

Reminds me of that too. Edge was awesome

  • Kumiko Akimoto

What is up with that tail

  • Kintama

    Gimme Logy!

  • Higashi no Ame 東の雨

This game is not complete without Ayesha, Nio, Linca and Logy

  • Kornelious

So Escha is returning…Usually the charcters are given new clothes when they return again but it seems that she has grown either way….In more ways than one XD (Or maybe it’s just me :P)
Seriously though, where is Logy!? AND MY AYESHA!!! X(

    • Kornelious

And BTW Lotte’s Burst attack remind anyone else of of Cecille from Arc Rise Fantasia’s Excel attack?

      • Zero_Destiny

Wow I didn’t think I’d see people talking about this game any time soon (without just bringing it up to laugh at the dub lol). Good times. ^^

        • Kornelious

What can i say, It was a really unique and good JRPG. And while the dubbing did annoy me, I think they got better as the story progressed and eventually got used to it :D

          • Zero_Destiny

Yeah, for all its flaws, I was rather satisfied with it myself. The combat is especially enjoyable and unique, the boss battles take effort and planning and really make you use your head, and well, I’m a sucker for Ken’ichi Yoshida’s art. ^^

          • Kornelious

Word, I can’t even remember how many times I had to redo The Clyde or Ignacy boss battle’s, but when i finally did it it was that much more satisfying.

And I love his art as well :D

  • Yan Zhao

Still waiting for Mana Khemia 3.

  • I needed this game. . . some long time ago. ;u;

  • Lutfi Ardiansyah

just wondering, Alchemist of Dusk Ground,Sky, and now Sea, what’s next? underground? space?

  • ShinNeoGranzon

Looks like Escha finally learned how to make the tail accessory and made a bigger one
