Ni no Kuni for $5 at PSN While UPlay’s Summer Sale Goes Live

By Viet Do . June 5, 2014 . 3:30pm

If you haven’t been checking PSN lately, it might be just the time to do so. Just yesterday, Ni no Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch dropped to $4.99 on PSN for the digital version. It’s the lowest price seen and a solid $25 off the $29.99 list price. It’s also significantly cheaper than the physical box copies you’ll find in the ~$20 range at Amazon, GameStop, etc.

While Ubisoft’s Uplay isn’t exactly every PC gamer’s favorite DRM, but if you don’t mind venturing outside Steam Store for cheap PC games, Ubisoft is running an “E3 2014 Sale“. Discounts are up to 80% off on dozens of titles and include a new low on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, now only $18 (previous low was $19.99). The sale will run through June 15th and will be worth checking periodically, with new daily deals appearing every 24 hours.

In other PC game deals this week, two MMOs are on the price chop block with ESO going for as low as $29.99 and the just released WildStar hitting in at 20% off. Both are good candidates if you’re somehow still playing WoW and you’re looking for something new to try out (especially WildStar).

Looks like Ni no kuni is going to be popular again. The only with a good sale drop.

    • DesmaX

Sounds like it will be released on PS+ soon

      • vault2049

That would be awesome! It would make people reluctant about paying for it (mostly because of what the graphics look like to them) to give it a go and enjoy what they have been missing out.

IMO, Ni no Kuni would be (if it is hypothetically included in the Instant Collection) the best PS+ title released to date in terms of quality and content, followed closely by Dragon’s Dogma.

$20 or so for the disc version still sounds enticing to me. My PS3 almost never has any space thanks to PS Plus not to mention most games need about 13 gig leeway for the installation after download.

    • Yeah, PSPlus destroyed my hard drive for a while. I ended up manually installing a 1TB drive into there just to handle everything, and I still pick and choose now what I’m getting onto there.

      • 1TB?

Sheesh. How much of that have you actually filled? I’m hard pressed to fill the 160 I put in mine.

        • Just for you, I’m turning on my PS3 to check.

For the record, this was the 250GB model before– at the end of it, I had all of 4GB left on the system, which is where I finally decided that I needed to do something.

Currently, I have 660GB free of 931GB, but this is without some of the much larger games on PSPlus being installed. So doing the math, I’m currently taking up 271GB of data. I’m pretty certain that if I had the time and patience to download more of the bigger games, that would probably be more around the ballpark of 350GB-400GB used.

God bless you PSPlus and your additional sales.

        • Shippoyasha

1TB should be easy to fill considering most games clock in at 8-10 gigs with the same amount needed to install the game after (though one can delete the game installer later). A dozen games, another dozen and you’re already filling up a huge swath of that drive.

I might have to do that soon actually. 120GB is just nothing these days.

          • In general the game installer now deletes automatically for me after I install it. Thank god too, I’d never remember to get rid of those things until I realize just how much space I’m taking up.

    • Aoshi00

I think I switched to a 500 Gb at the beginning and it’s constantly running out of space, the games from PS Plus are absolutely huge, some around or over 10Gbs, my pet peeve is it needs twice the space on the HDD to d/l that game to handle the subsequent install. So getting say Infamous 2 which is like a 14Gb game, I need to make room of at least 28Gb space :(.. that’s one reason I prefer the 360, most games are only 7-8Gb at most, all have optional full installs and don’t require twice the space to d/l and install.. for PS3 I constantly have to see what d/l games or videos I could delete :(..

  • Spicydicey

Holy crap. This is unbelievably good value, folks. I’ve spent 80 hours on it and still have plenty of side quests left.

I have no qualms about calling it PS3’s best jrpg by a mile, and one of the best games on PS3. It’s a game for anyone with even a fleeting interest in RPGs or Studio Ghibli.

    Buy it, mun!

    • Fub Frank

I grabbed it the other day and am enjoying quite a lot.

  • Already purchased Conception II and Ni no Kuni from the psn RPG flash sale. Going to a little while to get Ni no Kuni downloaded though with my crappy net connection (currently at 51% for the 16GB file and its only been two days, lol).

    • Shippoyasha

1/3rd of the entire harddrive space to download and install the game. Damn.

      • Well, also it is another 500MB or so (if I remember correctly) for the game data installation. Although, since I don’t have much on my PS3 besides Digital Devil Saga and a few other small titles it really doesn’t bother me as much.

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

Maybe it’s finally time to try out Ni No Kuni given the price; although, taking another look at it, it still doesn’t seem to interest me. Both the battle system and the story put me off a bit.

    • revenent hell

The story really isn’t appealing to me or the art style but I thought at five bucks it was worth a try…. Then I remembered the last RPG game I downloaded and how long it took and thought ” Nope.” even cheap unless its a game I want to immediately play its not worth all those hours of DL time to me.

  • Ni no Kuni at $5 is a steal, get on that folks.

And that Mario Kart 8 deal is alright too, if you wanted to get Sonic Lost World sometime. Get that for $23 as a result, and then pick up one of the free digital games you’ll get. Easy! … but really you should be getting Mario Kart 8 anyway. It’s that good.

  • Thelastgunstar

May get NNK, may not. Not sure just yet. More interested in ACL Black Flag. Just started AC3 and now I’m hooked on this series. Will employ the basic Steam Sale Tactics.

    1. Add wanted games to wishlist
    2. Check daily deals until the last day of sale
    3. If wanted game goes on sale as a daily deal, buy game
    4. If not, buy game on last day of sale

  • Sergio Hidalgo

ni no kuni is 20 gigs no way ima be able to download it :(

  • Skye Johnson

Pretty much all the games included the PSN RPG flash sale is being sold at very good value. I’m thinking of buying the Mass Effect bundle myself. I have the ME 2/3 physical copies but not the first… because for some reason I can’t fathom they never did a physical release of the first. Might as well get the first + 2/3 for 15 bucks, and maybe sell off the old copies I got for cheap, or keep them on my shelf.

Definitely picking up Dragon Age for 5 bucks though.

Also eyeing the Mass Effect DLCs, but I’m always dubious about buying DLC content.

  • Zborno

If you want to get in on the Ni no Kuni deal or the other PSN Flash deals, you better hurry. The sale ends Friday 6/6 at noon Pacific time.

  • Ms_Fortune

I’ll go ahead and say that Ni No Kuni isn’t worth it at all, even for 5 bucks.

Its a very pretty game but that’s all it has going for it, the combat system is abysmal and it just drags the game down to much.

    • X_Bacon

I’ll go ahead and say that you guys should disregard that.

      • Ms_Fortune

Glad you explained why, you sure showed me.

        Guess I’ll explain myself then.

The combat system is entirely A.I based and its VERY bad, it just doesn’t work right half the time, whenever you get more than one party member you’re gonna be struggling and many fights will be spent babysitting the A.I or soloing stuff with Oliver.

I’m just saying my piece here, not sure why people tend to get so up in arms about it.

    • aizen310

      Sorry, Ms_Fortune, but…

      Don’t listen to this guy/girl!

Ni no Kuni is old-school awesomeness. Offering it for 5 bucks is like stealing. If you are a JRPG fan from the glory days of SNES, do yourself a favor and grab it. The game oozes with style and it’s product value is something one should behold with his/her own eyes.

      • Ms_Fortune

There isn’t a single old school aspect to Ni No Kun, and I am a old school RPG fan from the NES days,, and you literally just said what I did, its a pretty game and that’s all it has going for it

        • aizen310

I don’t think the combat system is bad. FF13 had a more hectic and ridiculous combat system. Ni no Kuni’s fine. The story was cute, I liked it.

5 bucks is nothing for this game. It’s a fact.
