Hybrid RTS/MMO Kingdom Under Fire II Unleashes Open Beta In Asia

By Eugene . June 8, 2014 . 12:31pm

While the rest of the world patiently waits for hybrid online game/real-time strategy Kingdom Under Fire II, the wait is over in Asia. The game is now in open beta in English there.

Was it worth the wait? Quite possibly. Above, we’ve got the gameplay trailer, showing off how the hybrid system works in combat. It also shows off a stunningly beautiful game (if one riddled with grammar errors). Below’s the CGI trailer.

Players are commanders of their own squads, which include troops you can recruit, level up, and combine to create ever-more powerful/specialized units. Check out the gigantic scorpion, too!

Kingdom Under Fire II is out now in open beta on PC in Asia, with a PlayStation 4 version expected some time later this year. You’ll probably want to get your VPN’s ready as well.

From what I’ve heard some of alpha tests were insanely big in terms of HDD size. Unless you don’t consider 70GB of HDD space too much.

    • Zalin

This is correct the size of this game is massive in terms of HDD space and it will only get bigger! But at least HDD with large capacities are cheap now.

100 GB for a single game? That’s insane!

I Loved the two kingdom under fire games on the Xbox, I hope the RTS part of the game doesnt suffer from being an MMO.

my friend had the xbox 360 gam he got me into this game but I just hope when it comes to the ps4 is not monthly fee game cause it will suck having to pay 60 bucks for the game.Monthly fee plus 50 dollars for one year plus :( the reason why I never get mmo games although I might be willing for this one

    • $1392518

60 per month is off and nearly insane.
Usually ranges from 10 to 15 per month

i have been playing this for 4-5 hours.

    – the client download is about 7GB, which it unzip to 43GB. it require no installation, just double click the game launcher after unzip.

    – there are 3 character class. Berserker, Gunslinger and Spellsword. they kinda like the classic Fighter, Thief, Mage. character creation option is quite limited, the most option for customization is the face. but you dont really see the face a lot. there are just a couple of option for like skin color, hair, hair color. and the race and gender of your character is fixed on which class you choose. i gone with Berserker.

    – the 2 mouse button are for main attack and secondary attack, you can do some simple combo with different combination(very simple combination). you can assign skill and action to the number keys and they have a cooldown after use. thankfully the skill also have some variation to them depends on button press, but you have to unlock them in the skill tree. the Shift key is your block button, there is a parry of sort but i find it to be little use. Spacebar is the step button, stepping also change the main attack animation.

    – you start with a series of tutorial mission before coming to a main central hub map of sort. here is where the standard MMO stuff happens, take a quest, kill/collect some stuff, go back for gold, exp and items. where is the strategy stuff you ask? there are some quest that require you to take a portal to some other area which you can use the troops. you can recruit troops in squads(which you can enchance by using them) and take them when you do those quest. here is where those battle we seen in those trailers unfold.

    random rant:

    – some mook in the hub map is quite strong. you have to be careful fighting them, even they are alone. the goblins come at you en masse in those strategy mission, which you will also slaughter then en masse(poor poor goblins).

    – i have not found a reliable way to restore hp other than using potions. there must be something i missed. sp recover by time and hitting enemy, i dont need to worry about it too much.

    – i found the strategy mission to be fun, those MMO stuff, not so much. i would like it better if the game is just all about those strategy mission.

i think im going back to PSO2.
