Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Reveals Rogue And Ninja

By Sato . June 10, 2014 . 3:46pm

During the Square Enix Presents: E3 2014 Live, we got a special edition of Letter from the Producer, where producer and director Naoki Yoshida provided a first look at the newest class and job for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

After showing some footage of the Rogue and Ninja in action, where Square showed off their swift movement and abilities, they shared a few more details on the upcoming new class and job.

Yoshi-P revealed during the stream that the Rogues were once thieves, who’ve changed into Rogues, so they’ll have their own story and guild to go with it. Otherwise, it would’ve been a little tricky to have an establishment of thieves in a city-state.

The Rogue class are also a little faster when it comes to movement on the field. They also take less fall damage compared to other classes. As far as attacks go, the Rogues use poison on their blades as part of their class actions. There will be different types of poisons for various situations.

The Rogues are considered a stealth-type class, and will have certain actions that involve being invisible.

The Ninja job will use the daggers and have its abilities from the Rogue class, but will also have some ninjutsu skills to go with it. They will be done through certain combinations that can be mixed around for various effects, they can also be messed up.

The Rogue and Ninja will be released for patch 2.4, according to the producer, which has yet to get a release date or window. As far as the first expansion goes, it is still a ways off, and they’ll talk about it a little more in the near future.

  • DarkRPGMaster

2.4? Crap, that’s practically next year!

    • Massaki

Not really, following the release of the previous major paches, I would say around the end of September/early October.

  • rurifan

Did they say what the base class requirements are? Need to get started levelling some melee classes!

  • urbanscholar

Welp they just announced my favorite 2 classes in FFXI for this. I’m in for 2.4 on release

  • DeAndre Atchison

So, how many rogues named kirito are we gonna see after the class gets added?

    • 古戸ヱリカ

I’m expecting to see every variant of “Kirito Asuna” that’s possible given the character limit for names.

    • 栗場 江理久

You’d be surprised how many their are already :l

    • Nanajana

Kiirito Striife (Shut up, it’s original because is has extra i in the names)

  • gulabjamal

    Omg yaaaasssssss

  • zed grim

    bring the the dark knight.

  • Göran Isacson

All that ninja outfit does for me is make me salivate with fantasies on how gorgeous a souped up FFVI would look like. Please pardon the puddles of fanboy-drool.

  • Crevox
  • harmonyworld

Just when I was saying that there needs to be a thief class in this game~ :3

  • Ardus

Not that this isnt great new but i was REALLY hoping for a gun and sword class. I long for the day i can be as badass as symond the unsinkable.

  • Quan Chi

Square STILL trolling with Shadow from FFVI xD

    • DeathDias71

All of FFXIV has a ton of trolling from FFVI as well as many other older FF’s so…it isn’t really surprising if you’ve played the game. I mean…its part of the reason why people love FFXIV though…

  • Ace Esper

I wanted a class that uses two-handed swords or katanas or something, but dual-wielding blades is always awesome. Rogue class, here I come! Once I actually get the game…

    • Vash bane

katana’s sound like the samurai class

      • Ace Esper

Then I’ll patiently wait for the samurai class. Thanks for the info.

  • Christopher Nunes

    Finally Ninjas! ^_^
I’m happy… but they don’t use swords as well? Well at least I can dual-wield! So I take it we need to be Rogues first to become Ninjas? I don’t mind, this will be a GREAT class to play as! So are Rogues and Ninjas consider DPS classes?

    • greeeed

      I guess yes
(FFXI Ninja was dps but people used it as tank)

  • shenlong234

Rogues, eh? Kinda disappointed we didn’t get thief, but I’ll take what I can get. Besides, ninjas are awesome.

    • Christopher Nunes

Rogues ARE Thieves… or Thieves taken on a new role. But it’s more or less the same.

  • Julio D. Zulkarnain

Does this game needs very good connection? My place’s connection (Indonesia) is not good by worldwide standard, so I’m hesitating on buying this…

    • neocatzon

Oo, fellow brother. Infrastructure is a shit in our great country and that’s the same reason I’m holding back on MMOs.
But, there’s hope in somewhat near future because from the last debate both presidential candidates interested in e-everything (easy guess which one say it first) and we could be a manufacture hub in SEA (neighbours are not really appealing).

In short, I also still waiting.

  • Kornelious

Probally the closest we are going to get to a Dual-Weilding class…….But hey new stuff is new stuff :P

I wonder if they are still going to make the Musketeer class though?

  • Alestaos

From whats been said it will dual wield like a monk, be the fastest job speed wise and be more nimble taking less fall damage etc. I cant wait but it does make me and a few other guys wonder why they didnt branch this out from puglist and monk by defintion is meant to be fast and nimble so it will be intresting to see how they work side by side.

As a MNK main and SCH main i properlly could end up switching to Ninja since i love the mechanics spoken off. However 2.4 should be named influx of rogues lol

Kinda annoyed the gunner wasnt announced or shown, they do need to balance imo the tank and healer job ratio to dps. So more will play either and there would be a variety for different playstyles

    • Loli Summoner

Hopefully they will show it in part 2 on the 12th.
      “Please look forward to it”

  • ThirdChildZKI

Looking good! I can’t wait! I love Ninjas in general, and Rogue definitely looks like my kind of class to play! I’m excited to learn more.

  • Bunzi

Their artifact gear is a dead ringer for Amano’s Shadow artwork.

    • HerosLight

      It most definitely does.

      That’s pretty cool.

  • Doctor Nebula

Hopefully they release them during the summer, so I can actually have time to play :c

  • Loli Summoner

2.4 will most likely be in September. Each new patch releases in three months.

  • Ren Yuumei

and them everyone was named after a naruto character.

  • neocatzon

    Need more Interceptor

  • iLoveNintendo

    I want a damn thief, not a ninja! =/

  • That’s cool, though I won’t change my current Scholar

  • ffboi7

Hmm a ninja class… You have my attention… Maybe I’ll try the game now :D

  • RunningWild1984

FF14 has been out all these years and a staple class like Ninja was not in it until now? Wtf…

    • A Realm Reborn hasn’t even been out for a year yet lol. It just launched last August.

    • Naryl

Well the FFXIV 1.0 didn’t even have jobs, only classes. It was Yoshida who introduced them to regain the Final Fantasy Theme that the game should have had from the start. No class was convertible to ninja so it needed a new class, then they made a online poll so people could vote on various stuff, including wanted classes/jobs to be added. The most voted was a mage/pet class so we got summoner added in 2.0 launch. After that people wanted a scout type class (even yoshida said the game really needed it), and I’m sure many people voted for it thinking about THF, now they pretty much forced the ninja theme into this new scout class because, as you said, ninja is a staple class of final fantasy.
