Here’s One Of Link’s Alternate Costumes In Super Smash Bros.

By Ishaan . June 24, 2014 . 10:00am

As always, the fighters in Super Smash Bros. will have alternate costumes, and last night, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed one for Link via Miiverse.

The costume above is based on Link’s plain clothes in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. “The art style looks a little different, but the actual clothing model is still his usual tunic,” Sakurai wrote on Miiverse.

  • Would have rather they used Hyrule warriors . . .

    • Pedro Rosas

Its way to soon to say he won’t have it, but at the least we can expect Mario to have his Doctor costume now

    • They still might. This is only one costume.

  • Brimfyre

That’s cool. Beats just regular color swaps.

    • raygunner659

I kinda want the hat off for this one, it looks a bit odd to me. Still a cool option.

      • Shippoyasha

Yeah. I would think his village look = no hat.

  • Pedro Rosas

I’m expecting Marth to have a “Marth” (Lucina) costume and Mario to have his Doctor costume back.

    This is quite lovely (((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))

  • Ying

I’m so happy! Skyward Sword Link is one of my favorites so I was a bit bummed that he wasn’t going to be the Link they went for in this game. Wait does this means that Zelda is going to get an alternate SS costume as well? I hope so

  • Vash bane

…reminds me that I need to get skyward sword (but I suck at the wii controls >.<)

  • CrossZX

Shouldn’t it be “One” in the title?

  • Ooh Bee

SS Zelda next would be great.

  • KR-Joker

I guess this means we might not get any meaningful costumes like those found in project M, just slight texture edits, kinda lame, oh well.

    • Cellsai

Little Mac, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer have wireless model, both genders + different hair styles and both genders respectively.

Could be a few more like that in the future.

  • TheGioG

Oh, that’s looking real nice. As for Toon Link, it’s his Outset Islander clothing or bust. Gotta get my mains dressed in the very pajamas they started off their lazy bum adventures in.

    • (I thought this pic was to never leave the OT :V)

anywhho, Project M got it right. I’m sure Sakurai will as well.

      • AuraGuyChris

The freedom of a fan-made project is relatively minor compared to that of a real developer.

        • If anyone can bend the rules a bit it’s Sakurai :V

          • AuraGuyChris

Wish he could bend the rules of release dates instead because the whole 3DS version and by proxy the entire game will be spoiled to us 20 days ahead of the true worldwide release date.

          • Linhua

… this is what upsets me the most.

… i’m still gonna get the 3DS version, but I already promised myself that I wasn’t gonna open it until AFTER the Wii U version releases.

    • axemtitanium

Link is making eyes at me…

  • AuraGuyChris

That’s not much of a costume but more like a color scheme. Though I’m forgetting if Link wore a waist cloth in his normal green attire.

    Give me stuff like this.

    • TempestTwin

My favorite costume in brawl, it better return for SBB 4.

  • Hagaren

At least 2 alternate outfits per character would be excellent!

Heck, even 1 is good, beats palette swaps anyday.
Some I’d like to see: Dry Bowser for Bowser, Mr. L for Luigi, Protoman for Megaman.

  • Takane Shijou

    Feels pretty lazy honestly.

  • Learii

    is an elf costume

  • MikelAL93

I wonder if we’re ever going to see a Lucina alternate for Marth, complete with Laura Bailey’s voice.

    • Linhua

  • Brian Carty

hm, kinda wish he wasn’t wearing the hat for this costume.

  • Kalis Konig

A Lazy POS is what this costume is. Villager gets several male and female variants, Miis get a large number of unlockable costume pieces you get to choose from, Mac gets wire frame mac, and WFT gets the male variant. But for some odd reason Link of all people gets a bastardization of one his casual attires.

    • Armane

I’d honestly prefer more plain colour swaps than this.

  • Snorlaxation

I’m a big fan of alternate colors and costume changes, and I think this one looks pretty nice overall. The color is based on his alternate outfit though, and given a choice, I’d rather have Link fight in his alternate outfit. I’ll admit I’m a little disappointed that after all the other jumps and whatnot that this newest game has made, that they won’t go any farther with their alternate looks for the game. Seems or feels like a ‘running-low-on-budget thing. Even so, with everything else we’ve gotten, I feel bad for complaining.

    • Ben Sylvia

      It’s to be expected.

Some characters will get complete alt costumes (Mac, WF Trainer) while others still get palette swaps based on alt costumes.

And it’s still 2+ months till release, plenty of time to get shown some full costumes for Link and others.

  • ShadowDivz

I wonder if they will ever put Imp midna riding wolf link as a playable character, in the distant future

  • Looks like the dark Link outfit has competition for my use.

  • Strongarm Thunderbeard

Wario and WFT got new models for alt colors. What’s so difficult about giving Link a model without a hat?

  • chroma816

Gives me hope that we might get Megaman.exe as a skin. It’s all I want, really.
