By Ishaan . June 30, 2014 . 10:02am

The next Yakuza game is currently in development, this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine reveals. (Thanks, Game Jouhou)

A tease on Famitsu’s website indicates that this week’s issue of the magazine features an interview with supervisor Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Masayoshi Yokoyama, which is where the two reveal the existence of the new game.

No further details have been announced yet.

    I’m Crying ..

“wah wah wah SEGA of America wah wah wah”

    Awesome, new Yakuza.

    • otakumike

New Yakuza? My wounds have reopened!

      • Renaldi Saputra

        sprinkle salt on your wound

        • otakumike

Sega is doing that for me. D:

  • idrawrobots

    When is Restoration coming out?

    • Thatguy

      …Never?

  • Renaldi Saputra

    Sega oh Sega
    >not localizing latest series
    >making new series instead

    Sega oh Sega

  • http://soma4all.tk/ Soma

RGG5 is incredible, hope a new one will be on ps4.

  • British_Otaku

I’m still waiting for Valkyria Chronicles 3 (yes, I downloaded it on sale and got the English fan patch but I would pay for SEGA to do it still) and Yakuza Ishin (the demo was so good, maybe I should just import given how they took out some content from Yakuza 3 and 4 iirc).

    • AkuLord3

      4 never lost its content

      • British_Otaku

I should have been more specific to say that Yakuza 4 lost much less than Yakuza 3, but it still had SEGA claim that content was cut: http://kotaku.com/5656944/sega-yakuza-4-cuts-will-be-minor

Answer X Answer isn’t really on my priority list and I did support Ace Attorney 5 which was also missing a quiz (though I imported the Japanese one) but it is missing.

So… I’ll make the call that it is incomplete regardless of how petty I know I am. SEGA agreed even if they fortunately have all of the “really interactive” and “less trivial stuff” from what I hear.

  • Justin Lorence

Awesome. Yet another Sega game I desperately want that won’t get localized.

  • Guest

Can you guys just not allow those annoying comments about the newer games in the series not getting localized, please? They’re getting obnoxious, and just repeating themselves over and over. 8U

    • otakumike

You could just not read the comments. Yakuza is one of the lowest of blows sega has dealt to their western fans since we, y’know, kinda want to continue Kiryu’s story. Besides, complaining seems to fix a lot of things lately. Seriously! *looks at kinect-less xbox1* :D

      • Justin Lorence

And FF Type-0. Granted the Vita crowd is butt hurt, but at least it’s finally getting released here in some capacity.

      • DizzyGear

Sega also released the Vita version of Project Diva f after complaints and confirmed a retail release for Project Diva f 2nd for both regions this time.

      • Thatguy

Add Valkyria Chronicles to list of the lowest of blows

    • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

Don’t go to the Sega forum, it is much worse.

      • British_Otaku

Given how Capcom Unity is and how some specific boards on GameFAQs can be, I can only imagine how people respond for every Valkyria Chronicles/Yakuza/Sonic (Boom especially)/Shenmue/Skies of Arcadia related announcement, cameo or article.

    • Yan Zhao

Can you guys not allow those annoying comments about people complaining about comments they find annoying? They are getting obnoxious.

  • DizzyGear

No we’re never gonna get it. Never never gonna get it~

    • idrawrobots

      not this time.

  • Spirit Macardi

You’d like to hope that Sega now having the localization champions at Atlus on their team would mean this series could be brought over again, but it’s seeming not.

I don’t really understand, when was it decided that Yakuza no longer has appeal here? It’s not like the fees for bringing it over were incredibly high, since they only needed to translate the text. Hell, it was one of the only series that I didn’t mind not having an English dub track, since part of the appeal was getting immersed in the inherently Japanese culture.

    • PenguinPlayer

Well, Yakuza 5 has a lot of text. A lot. Like 2 times the text from Yakuza 4. There are also a lot of images with japanese text in them that are sort of important (Haruka’s chapter is full of them.) so they will also have to photoshop them up, if not redo them completely. There’s programming costs too, apparently the programmers that inserted the english text into the game are from the Ryu ga Gotoku studio in Japan since the director mentioned they couldn’t help with the translation since they were working on Ishin and future titles. If that’s the case SEGA would have to hire freelancer programmers, and that might be more expensive than they are willing to pay.

Unfortunately, it’s never as simple as we wish it was.

      • Spirit Macardi

Then some of this demonstrates greater problems with the way things are done. Why do they need the team in Japan to put the English text in? Do they not comment their code properly? Because if they did, they could likely hand that job off to another team within Sega.

The images I can’t really speak for, since I don’t know the context they’re in. Though I’ve seen kanji/kana images handled in a lot of localized anime by simply putting a subtitle stating what the text translates to.

        • 罪罰

it’s not as easy as just commenting the code, you know >_>

        • DizzyGear

Yes it would make perfect sense to handle localisation by a differant team during development. Problem is that the Japanese dont like to change their work methods. Someone who works on localisation stuff on NeoGAF made an exelent explanation about it but i’m too lazy to dig it up right now.
Also remember that Sega of Japan and Sega of America have not always been on very good terms during the MegaCD/Saturn era though i dont know how things are now but it could still play a role as well.

    • phayroent

When they butchered 3 because of stupid reasons, and the fanbase started rejecting it. When they released 4, they tried to hype it up as having “extra content”. When the sales didn’t spike, Sega stopped trying.

      • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

After 4 they localized Dead Souls, but they should have picked Kenzan or waited for Yakuza 5 because not only is zombie games extremely common today but DS is not considered a great one at that.

        • AkuLord3

Even if they waited, i doubt we get it, just Sega being Stupid

  • SupaPhly

    *face desk*

  • Yan Zhao

Meanwhile in the west, we still dont have Restoration.

    • phayroent

We don’t even have 5. I’d like Kenzan and Ishin as well, but they’d rather we have a zombie shoot-em-up (Of The End/Dead Souls) than a historical brawler.

      • AkuLord3

Can’t say that when it came out WAY before Ishin (yeah Kenzan was a thing WAY BACK so that doesn’t count) and that was when they had people supporting localizing the games but now…nope

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

I hope he has some staff for localization… he said the team was too busy to help localize but now they are making a new entry.

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

They couldn’t even outsource some fan translations as an official patch in just case we import the games?

I saw a copy of the original Yakuza for €6, maybe I should just go get it.

  • Randgriz

We’ll just have to see what SEGA west localisation team do after miku diva f 2.

  • Masa

No longer care for this series, having played all 4 of the main titles i’m still pissed off we in the West didn’t get Y5. :(

  • Dystopiq

And we’re not going to get it. We will take it subbed digital only. Just give it to me.

  • Learii

I don’t care about Sega anymore they don’t even get us what we want

    • katamari damacy

Sega is punishing us for not gobbling up the horrendous Dead Souls like good western consumers who like guns and zombies

  • Sperium3000

Oh hey, a new Yakuza game we’re not gonna get. Joy.

    • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

      There is always hope

      • Sperium3000

Well if that new game is a continuation from 5, then getting it would make no sense without getting 5 first, and I really don’t see that happening at this point.

  • TrueDefault

I’m hoping it’s the main series. As much as I like Kenzan and Ishin, I don’t really dig historical stories.

  • TalesOfBS

Will the Wii U get this one? Or Sega will use the sales of that Wii U port of a PS3 port of a PS2 game to say no?

  • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

YEAY!!!! But I still havent played Yakuza 5 =?

  • aizen310

The amount of sadness in me is just… too much to handle.
I’m getting punished because I didn’t born in Japan. Now that’s fair.
    F*** ***, SEGA.

  • leingod

SEGA, you used to be cool.
