Muramasa Rebirth Ninja DLC Story Surprise Attacks Players Next Week

By Spencer . July 2, 2014 . 10:52pm

When we met with Muramasa Rebirth producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto at E3, he told Siliconera the third and fourth downloadable Genroku Legends chapters would be released soon. And here’s chapter three! This episode follows Arashimaru, a ninja who has completely different moves compared to Kisuke.

Arashimaru throws kunai, bombs, and uses a kusarigama (a sickle attached to a chain) to attack. ghostly enemies. Arashimaru can also summon a giant white snake, Shirohebi, that takes up most of the screen. He can also learn new skills like a triangle jump and the Utsusemi Art.

The third downloadable episode will be released on July 10 in Japan. Aksys said they will release all of the downloadable Muramasa Rebirth episodes in North America and Europe. Right now, Muramasa Rebirth is a freebie for PlayStation Plus members.

Lol at 1:11. Is there a supposed legendary shinobi trio in japanese history or why are there quite a few trios where the 3 summon animals are a slug, snake and toad?

  • OlimacFTW

    It took a while….

  • Go2hell66

Can’t wait! these dlc chapters have been fantastic so far. so much content!

  • Namuro

    Dat bondage!

    • Duc PC-QB

      Snake Bondage !

  • Kufuu

Still haven’t gotten around to finishing either story though. D: Hell, still haven’t beaten Dragon’s Crown either. -_-

  • Kornelious

Sweet, this is the one I’ve been looking forward to :)

  • KuroNathan

Ahh is this supposed to be based off of Madam white snake? I remember watching The Sorcerer and the White Snake a few years ago

    • Namuro

Nah, definitely based on the Legend of Jiraiya.

Besides, that film was based on a “Chinese” legend. This is a Japanese game. Very, very Japanese.

      • KuroNathan

There’s jiraya for sure but the fact that the female love interest is actually a white snake is pretty much madam white snake. As Andy pointed out, it’s a popular tale in Japan and besides muramasa combines lots of tales into one.

        Also shows up in smt

        • AndyLC

Even Jiraiya has Chinese roots. Though he’s a Japanese character, the author was inspired by a Chinese legendary thief that left the message “I was here” (pronounced “Garaiya” in Japanese). He tweaked the name a bit and turned it into his own character.

A Japanese friend once joked with me “The only character we have not inspired by anything Chinese is Momotaro :p”

        • Asura

There’s a Japanese legend about a girl named Kiyohime, who turns into a giant snake when scorned, and there’s also the nureonna, a yokai who looks like a serpent with a human head and sometimes torso.

      • AndyLC

Jiraiya is a Japanese super ninja fantasy character, but he was also based off of a legendary thief from the Song dynasty in China. Here’s the passage from the book “Ninja Attack” that mentions it:

    • AndyLC

The Tale of the White Snake was a popular one in Japan, even the very first full color anime and Toei’s first full color special effects based movie was based on that legend

    • Asura

It actually takes elements from The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya.

  • Darkwing7

The music gave me an eargasm and the snake princess in the spring is pretty cute. Best announcement this week so far next to tales of hearts r

  • Daniel

      • Daniel

Considering i bought it on wii and the LE on vita no it doesnt ill give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you did the same tho so that would put us on equal standing

  • Nan

I love the music, the daruma enemies, the…everything…

    • Nan

      also, arashimaru’s a babe and a half

  • Surf

My god. That was hype as all hell. THIS is how you do a trailer

  • z_merquise

Vanillaware sure took their time with this. But the wait sure is worth it! Hopefully the English version won’t take long because I can’t wait to play the game again.

And to those who got it in PS Plus, I recommend the DLCs as well. They’re all great and worth the price.

    • MaximDualBlade

At last its here :D I also hope for a quick localization

I’m doing fury mode challenge with just one blade btw XD

  • The character and the manga intro remind me of Sanpei Shirato’s Kamui Gaiden.
A nice shout-out, none the less.

  • ShinNeoGranzon

Finally! This dlc is literally the only reason I’ve kept this game for the past year. Cat girl dlc was ok and I don’t really care about the farmer or oni girl (at least I think she was an oni, don’t really care)

Man, A Cause to Daikon for was amazing.
