Fantasy Sports Takes The Olympics Back To The Past

Nexon’s latest Korean mobile game is all about sports. Specifically, it’s about various well-beloved sports such as archery, spear-throwing, launching-flails-into-enemies and slingshot diving.

If that sounded a little bit crazy, that’s because Fantasy Sports is trying a little bit of something different. The smartphone game is in full 3D, and tasks players to top the leaderboards in various sports activities such as the above in a collection of mini-games.

This is still a mobile game, though, so you’ll also be able to collect competitors of different rarities who do better.

Fantasy Sports is available on Android now. It’ll also require Kakao (The messenger app similar to WhatsApp or LINE) to login.

This is actually a really cool idea for a game. Go back to the first Olympics. Have competitors traveling from all over the known world at that time, with massively different costumes and cultures represented. Have the events be more primitive and in some cases, lethal.

I’d totally play something like this on a different system.

that rabbit is creeping me out.

  • While conceptually sort of a cool idea, the actual gameplay… man, it’s giving me flashbacks from the days when I worked on Wii party game shovelware. The kind you’d find in a Best Buy- or Wal*Mart-bargain bin. The kind you’re never happy to work on?

Well, I guess if mobile platforms are going to take over a significant portion of the bad movie tie-in game*, they might as well suck up some party/mini-game compilations too.

    * – examples: Gameloft’s Iron Man 3, Glu Mobile’s Robocop, WB Games’ Godzilla: Strike Zone… which if you haven’t heard about it, is – believe it or not – a mobile FPS where you play as the HALO-jump troopers from the trailer. *sigh*

In typical Korean game fashion, you will also be expected to spend dozens of hours of grinding to unlock the next whatever it is you’re trying to unlock. Then spend double that time getting the next thing.
