This Week In Imports: Corpse Party Bleeds, Tokyo Goes Dungeon Crawling

By Spencer . July 21, 2014 . 4:00pm

image Mages has a sequel to their Corpse Party series and Corpse Party: Blood Drive picks up right from Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. The PlayStation Vita game uses 3D models for characters instead of the sprites from the original Corpse Party. Mages will also release Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss, a DRPG from Experience the makers of Demon Gaze, which was originally supposed to be published by Cyberfront before they closed.

Arc System Works has Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late which Aksys will bring to North America next year. Also, Capcom has a new version of Monster Hunter Frontier and Japan will finally get Yoshi’s New Island.

Fatal Frame 5. Corpse Party: Blood Drive. These games NEED to be localized.

  • Postnjam

    European releases: NONE

I’m not too worried about us getting Blood Drive, even if Book of Shadows sold less than the first one here.

Hopefully, it’ll just be a matter of *when*.

  • Final Agent

I’m not too sure how to feel about Corpse Party Blood Drive, I mean, we already know Ayumi survives its events and you can be sure as hell it won’t end with her undoing the deaths of her friends.

The best I can hope for is a new Seiko x Naomi scene to give the poor girl some closure before she moves on or the release of their souls from eternal torment and that’s as good as it’s ever gonna get…

    • H.A.MK

If there is one thing that I am sure about Corpse Party, is that nothing is guaranteed in this game. The only way to know how this game ends is by playing it and confirming the ending.

    • http://www.santashi.com/ Santashi

Do we know that? Can’t they all just end up dead/stuck in the other dimension forever? There’s probably a scene that I’ve forgotten, though!

    • Wtv

I hope Seiko is in it in some way. She was the only character I liked at first….it was hard to play the game after the first chapter. Well, she does look popular enough, and she has a character model in the game, but I hope it’s not only a minor role.

I did like Ayumu eventually and it makes a lot more sense have her as a protagonist than Satoshi and Naomi…but her cliche crush on Satoshi was too annoying. I hope they get rid of it someway now that Satoshi isn’t really the MC anymore, since it was a VN trope to make more girls like the protagonist in some way. Two girls in love and a imouto.

Yoshiki is a better character anyway.

      • Göran Isacson

This one. This one gets it. Good Yoshiki, best bro and all that jazz.

    • s07195

      Satoshi/Naomi end~

  • ThatGuy3190_7

One thing I’ve always wondered is why do some games made in Japan get released overseas first and then released in its native country much later.

    • hng qtr

Are you talking about Yoshi? That one wasn’t made in Japan.

  • Ethan_Twain

Not in This Week In Imports: Anything that will sell more than 100,000 units. Maybe Yoshi will over time since it’s a Nintendo game, but I don’t see anything here that will bring much energy to the weekly chart.

  • Kornelious

Ok! Now hat Blood Drive and Operation Abyss have been officially released in Japan, now we just play the waiting game for the inevitable localizations :D

XSeed is likely to pick up Corpse Party, and I recall another company being interested in Operation Abyss (Don’t remember the name) So I have high hopes :)

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

That’s one spoilerish cover. And a rather creepy one.

  • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Wow. Japan took this long to get Yoshi?

  • fyi1191

What’s up with CP’s cover? I rather have that one art with Ayumi only.
This looks like a cover for you stick those face place photo on.

    • Wtv

But then you can’t spoil those who didn’t play the first game. Where’s the fun in that?

      • fyi1191

        That stinks lol.

        • Juan Andrés Valencia

No kiddding, the cover contains spoilers. Major ones.

I’d ask to take the image down for those that haven’t played it but then what’s going to happen with every retailer selling the game?

          • Jesse

Well, there’s an alternative cover from the limited edition that doesn’t have spoilers:

            http://1u.pacn.ws/640/jp/corpse-party-blood-drive-limited-edition-354851.11.jpg

          • Wtv

            It looks better.

          • Juan Andrés Valencia

That one looks great. Although it could also be an alternate cover for this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0438883/

          • http://resettears.wordpress.com/ Reset Tears

            Love this piece of artwork.

          • fyi1191

Awesome cover. But what are the chances we even get this cover without edits?

          • 07thCrow

I’m in love with that cover

          • Wtv

I think Japan only buy these games on their launch, it’s common to them spoil things like that after. XSeed will probably change the cover if they localize it, though.

Siliconera already spoiled me on Fire Emblem with the news about one book coming out in Japan. The cover was spoilerish.

          • 07thCrow

For this article, it’s big spoilers. Japan, not so much, since the series is quite a few years old. Although I don’t think retail will be a problem when it gets translated, Xseed has made it download only both times (not sure about PC?), so it might be changed to only include the title.

  • Kotori Itsuka

God, I hope corpse party: Blood Drive makes it to eu, or the us. I wanna play this so badly. Or I can get Chuck Norris to teach me all the Kanji(s?) With his awesomeness.

  • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

    Hehe. That cover.

  • 07thCrow

That cover is symbolic AND spoiler-ific!

    • Kumiko Akimoto

If you didn’t know that by now you probably shouldn’t be looking at this game in the first place.

      • 07thCrow

Actually, I did know it. It was a joke. And people who haven’t played the series aren’t going to know that looking at this article will have spoilers until they’ve already seen it. Unless they have ESP, in which case, that’s seriously cool, and they probably knew about the spoilers long before we did.

        • Kumiko Akimoto

No I didn’t mean you just in general,I’ve seen the joke before but.

  • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

I hope Corpse Party comes out here

  • Kayriss Wins

How DARE they censor Seiko’s gorgeous face! naw but I get why they’re faces are like that lol.

  • Göran Isacson

Does Blood Drive have a release date in the west yet, or is it all up in the air?

  • leingod

So… those guys died, right. Didn’t play the first, but I won’t miss this one, that’s for sure.

    • Alphabet Soup

If you have a PSP (or soon, a Steam account) I would play the first one before diving into Blood Drive. You could skip Book of Shadows, as only one chapter in that game has any effect on this one, but the first one is definitely worth your time.

      • leingod

Got a Vita, so I guess that works :)

    • 07thCrow

Definitely play the first! Blood Covered will explain everything that happened so you’re not lost when Blood Drive comes out. It’s a really fun game, well worth playing! One of the best survival horrors, imo. I’d still recommend Book of Shadows for both the lore and for the ending that leads into Blood Drive. Plus, it’s always good to support a great niche series like Corpse Party and the company that brought it over for us, and they did a great job at translating it! :)

      • leingod

I think I’ll do! Someone told me there’s a Corpse Party sale on the PSN store right now.

  • Tincho Kudos

Hmmm how many times the same story gonna be revisited? I mean, I loved the first one, I didn’t like book of shadows because its the same thing as the first one, but with other endings as far as I played.
I tought this one was an original story with other characters in an abandoned hospital, seems like I was wrong.

    • DyLaN

That CP2: Dead Patient. Blood Drive is a direct sequel to BoS “true end”.

      • Tincho Kudos

Oh I see, so is CP2 already out?

        • DyLaN

I think the first episode is out.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

Book of shadows was meant to show other point of views and add to the overall lore, and give us a look at the next game.
Blood drive is the last entry in the haunted school setting .
So how are they same I don’t know.

      • Tincho Kudos

Its not really the same, but it was the same characters and setting only from “a different point of view”. And this time its a sequel to one of the endings of the game that is a “different Point of view”….
They are not the same, but hell they are similar, and in my case I got bored of those characters already

        • Kumiko Akimoto

It’s a sequel to the canon ending of the game. Do you not follow long standing games?

          • Tincho Kudos

I do like them, yes. But for me the stories of these characters ended in the original one (which i absolutely loved from beggining to end)
I’m not really fond of forced sequels, thats all (In reference to book of shadows)

          • Kumiko Akimoto

I wouldn’t say something that’s meant to give perceptive is a forced sequel. This either, it all ties into the dead patient.
