$15 Murdered Soul Suspect Plus $10 Thief: 2014 Games at Flop Prices

By Viet Do . July 26, 2014 . 11:00am

So these aren’t exactly Aliens: Colonial Marines (shudder) – but last month’s Murdered: Soul Suspect and the late February’s Thief also didn’t exactly hit the best seller list. Prices for both of these titles have fallen hard on the PC digital version and equivalent in speed to Colonial Marines (last time I’ll mention that game, promise). Both of these Square Enix published titles started out at a MSRP of $49.99 but you’ll now find the Steam key for them at $15 and $10 a piece, respectively. Yay, deals?

On other PC game deal front, there’s a bunch of 2K Games title on sale over at Gamefly Digital, with discounts up to 75% off – probably the best deal in the bunch is BioShock Infinite for $7.49 which ties its all time low price. Lastly over at GMG there’s two noteworthy weekend bundle with seven Codemaster titles and five Digital Tribe Games for $5 each. Not too bad if you’ve never tried an Overlord title before.

I did not play Thief, but Murdered Soul Suspect is a really bad game, is a shame because the idea is pretty cool.

    • Eh, wouldn’t say Murdered Soul Suspect is a bad game, just a very clunky and misdirected one. I mean I don’t think they could have made exploration clunkier and presenting evidence most of the time made no sense.

From what I’ve been playing it may not have been worth the original price but at 20 bucks I say it’s not a terribly bad deal. It’s a fun game, it has potential to be fun if you overlook some of it’s faults.

Then again…there’s so many other good adventure / exploration games out there that it’s totally understandable to skip it (The Walking Dead!)

    • Nah I don’t think Murdered is bad I played it a good amount and I found it fun sure like kevassa said it felt clunky but I did enjoy where the game was going in the end. I do recommend it but at a lower price of course.

Theif wasn’t that great a game either, Dishonored is a much better first person stealth game. The stealth mechanics and combat were mediocre at best.

      • Funny, I found Dishonored to be a terrible stealth game but I guess our definition of stealth are different.

  • Monterossa

I’d rather save my money for Trails in the Sky.

    that’s a perfect headline picture…

    • Black Heaven

When I first saw the headline my thought was… “oh, they’re offering discounts to floppped games now?”

Made me think, is it better if we price games based on rating? I wonder if that would be fair? But at least theyll be enouraged / forced to top up their quality.

      • Hawks

Publishers already pull that shit, ala Fallout New Vegas.

    • I get kicks out of picking headline pictures at times. Glad someone noticed.

  • Namuro

Whoa, that almost looks like a blow up d…

  • Pyrotek85

I was suspicious of the new Thief when it was on sale for like $37 before it was even released.

    • darke

Honestly Thief 2014 was destined to fail.

As a non-Thief-series game it would have been a competent game, but since it really didn’t share any of the traits of the gameplay that the Thief series was known for it got pretty solidly savaged even before the reviews started coming out.

      • Brad Donald

Worst thing about thief is everyone one was telling the devs for ages they were on the wrong path. I wish many of these studios would stop saying they listen to player/consumer feedback when they actually do not.

        • Pyrotek85

I wasn’t following development that closely since I didn’t want my hopes to be dashed, but I’m not surprised.

Sometimes the correct answer IMO is to leave the series be. I don’t know if that was the case here, but sometimes you just can’t recreate that same feeling the originals had, and the fans are going to be disappointed no matter what you do.

      • Pyrotek85

I’ll probably get around to giving it a shot, but I’ll try hard to think of it as just a brand new IP and not a rebooted one.

  • SlickRoach

I’ve heard good and bad things about Soul Suspect, so I don’t know what to think of it other than seeming similar to Beyond Two Souls. But on the other hand the title image did give me a good laugh :P

    • Uh, it’s nothing like Beyond Two Souls

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

From what I’ve seen it fits more like Ghost Trick + L.A. Noire + Silent Hill Downpour. I’ve been interested in the game since I really liked Dark Void and Quantum Connondrum. The story and gameplay seem pretty good as well.

    • venomryu

I had the game soul suspect the story was good nice va but its glitch has hell

    • Luis Camargo

I finished the game recently and I payed about $20-$30 for it.

The game has a lot of issues, but it is still enjoyable. The story is interesting and there are a lot of elements that give more details to it.

The game is also a collect-a-ton type, so there are useless things everywhere. For, $15 I would say it is worth it for the story. Think like buying a ticket for a B-movie.

    • Seraph

I reviewed it a while ago if you want to see bits and pieces of the game in action.

    • CISphil

Eh, it’s passable. It’s got too many issues for me to give it a recommendation but you could do worse at that price.
And, as already said, nothing like Beyond Two Souls. You don’t want Beyond Two Souls…

  • Ouch. Think I’ll play some Civ V now though.

  • cj may

If you haven’t played Xcom now’s the time!

  • I’d feel worse about Murdered & Thief if these weren’t PC prices. PC prices are ALWAYS way lower than on consoles.

I mean, I know it’s a flop. But you can’t hold up PC prices as a great indicator of just how badly it performed, y’know? Not in the age we live in, where there’s always a Steam, GOG, Humble Store, Green Man Gaming, Gamersgate, Playism, Amazon, ShinyLoot, Origin, Uplay, etc. etc. etc. store out there selling something for crazy discounts digitally.

It’s still, like, $35 on PS3. But hopefully it’ll drop physically like it does digitally; I’ll pick it up when I see it for $20. Seems unamazing but interesting.

  • Brad Donald

Thief bombed cause the original fans were pissed at the casualization of it, and the loss of freedom and multiple paths. Soul suspect bombed cause no one even knew it was out first of all, second of all it was tedious to play bad controls and the puzzles were not challenging and lame. Its a B movie for a comparison. 15 bucks is about right.
