Xerneas Increases The Launch Power Of All Fighters In Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has shared details on two of the legendary Pokémon that have a possibility of popping out when you use a Poké Ball—Xerneas and Victini.

“Victini and Xerneas are both support Pokémon,” Sakurai said on Miiverse. “Victini’s Victory Star boosts the attack of whoever throws the Poké Ball, and also prevents flinching.”

Meanwhile, “Xerneas’s Geomancy increases the launch power of all fighters, but exceptionally raises it for whoever had the Poké Ball.”

  • Pokemon Buffs? In muh Smash bros? OK.

  • 하세요

Baton Pass Smeargle needs to be a Pokeball Pokemon.

    • The Watcher

what would that even do doing gameplay?

      • 하세요

He would stand still and start buffing himself. Opponents can knock him out before he gets started/finishes. Once defeated, he’ll Baton Pass whatever he manages to finish before getting hit off. Swords Dance, Agility, and Iron Defense.

I dunno, it’s silly but would be amusing as hell in my eyes since that’s literally his role in competitive battles. Gotta take out that dude before he gets anything started.

        • Desk

          that actually sounds pretty cool

        • Jadfish

Ahaha that actually sounds really frantic. When it comes to smash items they need to add some kind of “oh shit” to the battle right when they show up IMO

        • Leon Saw

Or he could just use Spore and enemies nearby all fall asleep, making them hesitate.

    • I’d say that Destiny Bond could be a neat thing.

  • Jadfish

that’s a pretty cool buff actually. Making everyone go for smash attacks for a couple of moments sounds chaotic as hell AND extremely fun

    • AuraGuyChris

But it should’ve been Yveltal. Xerneas, promoting violence which can lead to death?

      • Blick Winkel

Xerneas, protecting the earth by keeping fighters off of it.

      • s07195

Naw, Xerneas is giving the fighters more energy!

    • I hope Sakurai adds a Pokémon select like Item select. I could do all Xerneas Pokeballs and Bumpers. That would make my current “Bumper Mayhem” matches more exiting. If I have my options right, the math should look something like this: 2.0x Damage Ratio + Xerneas = HOLY HELL! O_o

      • s07195

You mean Masterballs. But heck yeah, that would be chaotic. XD

        • Both, really. Pokeballs have a chance for every Pokémon in the game while Masterballs are Rare/Legendary Pokémon only.

          • s07195

Oh, guess I misunderstood from the Smash Direct that the legendaries would only be in Masterballs.

          • It’s okay. I’ve seen that Smash Direct enough to know it off by heart. xD

  • Jettythesunfish

So they’re buff Pokemon. Interesting! At least we know what they do now.

  • Reki Honoo

    Wheres my buddy Yveltal now?

  • jugss

I’m praying for Coro coro leak on Friday for Pokemon ORAS.

  • Kornelious

Well that’s a relief….At least i won’t have to worry about pokemon killing me….Just helping kill me! XD

  • I can picture it now…
    “Here. Have a Pokeball.”
Throws a Pokeball at his opponent, who gets massive damage and goes flying.
    Victini pops out from Pokeball.
    “Oh. Thanks Victini. Ha ha.”

  • Göran Isacson

That IS pretty neat. Pokemon always did add an extra pinch of chaos to Smash, and now I’m imagining some poor hopeful sucker in the 100 %s throwing one hoping it knocks out an enemy… only to get one of these and have to face the fact that they will just have to wade in and get their hands dirty none the less.

im surprised Victini isn’t using his V wheel
