Here Are Two Of Zero Suit Samus’ Alternate Costumes In Super Smash Bros.

By Ishaan . August 18, 2014 . 11:31pm

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed two of Zero Suit Samus’ alternate outfits in the game. The two outfits are based on the ending graphics of Metroid: Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission, and you can view the original art from those two games below.

On Miiverse, Sakurai wrote: “Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That’s what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time.”

Sakurai also showed off a screenshot of the two costumes from the Nintendo 3DS version of Super Smash Bros.:

    Ffffffffffffffffaaaa- I mean, Fuuuuuck.
Welp, Can’t say Sakurai isn’t doing fans diservice

  • Ninjagoon

that was the only logical alt i could think of for zero suit lol. And i like how they went out of their way to say it only got finished in time because of her female designer. Maybe tone down the ridiculous backlash they might receive.

    • buddyluv324

No it won’t. The SJW crowd will still find something with this to bitch about. Just give it a day or two.

      • Tarkovsky

I remember the new Sailor Moon getting sh*t even though the new designs are based on the original Manga-ka’s(a woman) work.

        • FivePointedTheStar

          Ooooh…. So much this.

        • Suicunesol

Oh? I didn’t hear about this. What are they saying about it?

          • puchinri

A lot of the original anime fans complain about their limbs being too long or that they’re too skinny.

Basically overlooking the fact that Crystal now actually looks like a shoujo; and nevermind how skinny they got to looking in the 90s anime. x’D

        • Dark Lord Ash

“remember the new Sailor Moon getting sh*t”

Please tell me they were trolling, please tell me that’s the case.

          • PreyMantis

There’s no trolling with SJW; they’re all dumb and creates bs out of nothing.

          • Dark Lord Ash

Maaaan I’m getting real sick of these people throwing fits at things either don’t concern them or the actual importance of said issue is a non issue. Somebody needs to slap the fire out these people.

        • puchinri

That was just bitter 90s fans though, lol.

        • buddyluv324

A Ridiculous complaint to say the least. With all of the baseless ranting over fictional female characters, you would think the SJW would be more outrage over the recent antics within the gaming industry itself like something along the lines of the whole mess with Zoe Quinn.which for some reason the mainstream gaming journalist havent put out any articles about it as I know of.

          • puchinri

What’s a ridiculous complaint? Not liking the new designs, or something specific about them? Or are you not talking about Crystal at this point?

People disliking it for the new design are free to, but their problem is co-opting sizism for their own bias.

But true “SJW” are upset over plenty of legit things and point them out, not just any one thing. Believe it or not, we’ve evolved. We can. . . multitask!

          • PreyMantis

I’m pretty sure buddyluv324 was talking about this:

r/gaming on reddit is actully going crazy right now because of this Zoe Quinn’s controversies and corrupting videogame journalism industry/ many sites’ lack of journalistic integrity.

            EDIT: words.

          • Symbol de Au

I was suspicious of her back then. I hated her “game” too. Oh well.

          • PreyMantis

I didn’t knew her nor care for her before the mod(s) at r/gaming in reddit went to a deletion frenzy over the matter which, hilariously, caused a Streisand effect.

          • Symbol de Au

This made me lose a lot of respect for gamers. I was already at a low. I’m not sure. It might be better if this guy was posting nothing but bull. I’m seriously mad right now, and I usually just joke around about everything. This ticks me off.

          • puchinri

I guess it’s a matter of where you go, but that kind of comes up fairly often on the feminist sites I go to. But I guess so many sites now are biased so it’s not something they’d cover, lol.

I was mostly addressing his response to the Crystal stuff since he seemed to be referencing those complaints (although second-hand).

      • Brimfyre

They are already saying “so much for the empowered female character Samus used to be” on Kotaku. Proof that none of them have ever even played a Metroid game, or at lerast finished one.

She is wearing what is essentially a jogging outfit. It’s hardly skimpy.

        • Shippoyasha

Let’s not forget Samus was designed from the ground up to be a sexy lady. She was based on a real life model.

          • puchinri

Well, actually, no. Remember, she was designed to be the default: a man. She just became a woman later and was modelled after Ellen Ripley, and thus Sigourney Weaver. Weaver, while not meant to be sexy in the movie (even in the ending), is a woman though and a great basis for a real life model~.

  • Tarkovsky

I can sense the flood of SJWs approaching XD

    • Vash bane

      ….learn something new everyday

      • NintendoPSXTheSecond

        Hmm. Me too.

    • 愛憎

      Don’t summon them!
I’m a feminist, and I like this costume. Nothing wrong with a little sexuality. I think Samus is already a strong female character, so no problem.

  • Suicunesol

Would have been nice to see Samus wearing her hair down in the blue costume.

Also, I don’t know why Sakurai is complaining about the number of development days remaining when he can just add DLC post-release.

    • Herok♞

You know he might not want to rely on DLC and give the full package at launch which is never a bad thing.

  • JustThisOne

Damnit! And even then, she still has her neon yellow outlined boots. Oh well. It’s nice that they thought of this at all, though.

  • Dexterino

Thank you Sakurai. I’m proud of your team for putting Samus’ alternate costumes.
If anyone dislikes Samus’ costumes you can stick a Heel up your *** hahahaha XD

  • Atmey

I did not see this coming, Nintendo finally giving some fanservice?

EDIT: let me be clear: I do not mind fan service, it is just unexpected, that’s all.

    • Suicunesol

I thought Zero-Suit Samus herself was fanservice.

      • Atmey

Yeah, I thought that would be their limit, but out of the few alternate customs, they gave Zero Suit Samus, which as you said already a fanservice, an custom that shows more skin.
Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing alternates for others as well, as long as it doesn’t come like DoA,

        • Suicunesol

Well, um. It’s not exactly a bikini. It’s a pair of shorts and a tanktop. Honestly, the skintight suit is more fanservice than that. Shorts and a tanktop are a perfectly normal female attire, especially during exercise. It’s also Samus’s canon non-suit attire.

        • doubleO7

Well, its not like this is anything new. Like the article mentions, these outfits originated in Fusion and Zero Mission, so they’ve been around awhile.

        • Dexterino

          DOA DOA….

        • Shippoyasha

Again with the unnecessary jabs at DoA. People will never stop, do they?

          • Atmey

I do not mind the tons of outfits and content, but the way they are selling them, I mean the DLC cost much more than the actual game, if there is a package that unlocks 30+ costumes I would consider buying it at a reasonable price.

          • Shippoyasha

I don’t entirely deny that. I think this is just how it’s going to be with fighting games in general. DoA does make it a point to have a ton of costumes, though to be fair, this is really something industry wide at this point. I would really like free costumes, make no mistake.

    • Demi-Friend

Samus has been fanservice since the NES original. If you beat the game fast enough you see her in a bikini, as a 8-bit sprite.

      • Atmey

Let the Nintendo and video game history lesson begin….
Peach was naked in Paper Mario, so it is proper to put her too?

        • Reficul Terumi

Well you clearly need a history lesson when you use words like “finally” when it has been around forever. I don’t even see why this outfit is improper. Women wear clothing like this all the time to go jogging. Gonna be honest, this Samus outfit is not that different from what Wiifit Trainer is wearing.

          • Gentle Robot

Have to admit the Wii fit trainer costume is sexist, too, and has been since the game came out. The dude gets a whole shirt.

          • Reficul Terumi

I do not think you understand what sexism even is if you are using it in this context. Where is the discrimination? Where is the prejudice? Men and women dress differently in real life by their own choice so please don’t throw around words incorrectly. The female ver. of the Wiifit Trainer is exactly as strong as the male ver. and is the ver. that gets the most footage and is the default.

          • Gentle Robot

You’re kidding, right? The woman gets a sleeveless belly shirt and the guy gets a t-shirt? How many buff guys at the gym you see wearing sleeves?

It’s ok that Samus has this outfit because it’s what another character from another game wears? Do a GIS for Wii fit trainer and tell me how powerful she looks. This is a boner-inducing outfit, not some reflection of real-life women. How many female warriors in real life regularly ditch their uniform for hot pants and a sports bra? This game is about as gender-neutral as a calendar in a firehouse.

It’s ok because jogging? Men go shirtless while jogging – name a shirtless smash bros character that isn’t an animal. Little Mac wears a shirt and none of his punch-out opponents do. Ever seen a pro boxer wear a shirt?

          • Reficul Terumi

“How many buff guys at the gym you see wearing sleeves?”

Quite a few actually. From my personal experience, I’ve seen my father and brother work out is such clothing. And if I were to disregard that completely a simple google image search of “men jogging” will give you plenty of images that look like the male Wiifit trainer.

“How many female warriors in real life regularly ditch their uniform for hot pants and a sports bra?”

Real warriors? In real life? Stop while you’re behind, please.

“Ever seen a pro boxer wear a shirt?”

This is why your side cannot be taken seriously. Literally 0 research before you open your mouths about a given subject.

    • GuyAlpha

      “Nintendo finally giving some fanservice?”
That must be an anime thing, but the entirety of Smash Bros is fan service.

  • Ony

Fusion suit for armored Samus pls :<<<<<<<<

    • Vash bane

I agree with this. would be cool so finally see that suit in a smash game….but I’m kinda over thinking on her abilities tho ( I that game she had a lot of moves/abilities at her disposal but then again that feature for custom moves might have them)

    • Scissors

They did a Fusion color alt for Brawl, but it wasn’t the same. Hope they properly recreate the Fusion outfit this time instead of just a recoloring.

  • $18114340

I still seriously can’t un-see her dislocated shoulder. That post is forever ruined for me.

    • puchinri

      Most of her body has started to look weird to me at this point. ouo;

It looks so good one moment, then wonky the next.

  • Sky

Dat body tho… lookin sexy :)

  • Vash bane

lol they know samus has a fan pack and this delightful costume will bring them running (wii u users …your samus will be looking rather *cough* HD -stalks youtube- lol)

I agree wasn’t expecting them to add these that’s cool (now all we need is a fusion suit samus in armor then…my mains are complete)

  • fool

    oh my GOD

  • Daniel Rossevelt

    … ummm… uhh…. Day 1 buy

  • Dexterino

Next Alternate costume guess is for Zelda, I’m banking on her Hyrule Warrior’s as an alternate.Yes it’s similar to her dress but it’s sexy don’t ya think. Who’s with me???? Sakurai and Co. you can do this.

    • JoJo_718

I’m expecting a cheap palette swap based on Skyward Sword, just like Link.

      • Dexterino

That would suck. LOLZ. Zelda Warriors Alt. Rosalina and Peach in their Biker Jumpsuits from Mario Kart. The game will be perfect.

  • Kihara-kuuuun!

So, is this how Samus will lessen her clothes getting torn all the time in rule 34?

  • NeptuniasBeard
    • TheGioG

This article made my morning. According to my pantaloons, Solid Snake has just been confirmed too.

Jokes aside, Samus looks right gorgeous, she does. Looking forward to the rest of the alt. costumes if they’re half as awesome as the ones shown off so far.

      • NeptuniasBeard

” According to my pantaloons, Solid Snake has just been confirmed too”

LMAO Nice dude, hope he’s God Tier.

    • God

Why?! They said there’s no time for developing, why the hell waste it on this instead of another character or at least another item, if you want to see Samus in a sexy outfit, there’s already the internet for that.

      • NeptuniasBeard

I think you just answered your own question. If you don’t have much time to develop, would you spend that time rushing in a new character or item (which will have to be tested for balance, bugs, etc) Or a fairly simple character skin?

        • God

I would go all out, make my people work 25/7, without any kind of break or sleep, if i go to jail for that, it would be worth it, as i would be giving joy to the Smash fans around the globe… i mean, are there even more characters than there were in Brawl?

          • NeptuniasBeard

            We’re at 37 announced characters to brawl’s 39

  • Weird Al Yankovic

Nice, but I still want Birthday Suit Samus.

    • Dexterino

can’t wait for them wii u modders to make i happen.

  • Kayriss Wins

Nintendo not afraid to make Samus look sexy, me likey

    • PreyMantis

Next time, I want to see Peach in her athletic clothes, Link in his casual clothing, or Pikachu in costumes.

      • puchinri

They should make Pikachu female in Smash and put her in those cute contest outfits~! I want to battle as Sweet Belle and Lucha libre Pikachu so bad. >u< ♥

        • Charles Parker

I think female pikachu is already a thing in this with the tail difference. Not sure though.

          • puchinri

Oh, really~? That’d be cool! I’m going to pay close attention to some screens and see if any show that.

  • Suicunesol

So, I just remembered an article I once read a long time ago.
It says that Samus is 6’3” and weights 200 pounds. Given her agility in SSB, she certainly doesn’t look it in the screenshots above.

    • Bunzi

shush you social justice warrior special snowflake. with your official art.

we need more tits, ass, and midsections.

But jeez. They could of went with her military uniform at least. Female designer though, so it’s all good.

      • Suicunesol

Oh no, I don’t consider myself an SJW. I’m just shedding light on some old dust. :P

I think the whole “female designer” thing is bogus, though. Design what? The costume was already designed years ago in the Zero-Mission art. And these costumes are merely retextures of the skintight zero suit. I could have reskinned her myself.

      • Shippoyasha

I really hate how people think a male designer is suddenly not viable or the dynamic isn’t ‘respectable’ that a male designer can create a sexy/cute character design.

        That is seriously uncalled for.

        • Pauldotexe

Not really. Sexism against men is perfectly acceptable.

      • 愛憎

The user said nothing to make me think s/he is a SJW. That’s kind of a rude assumption. No need to be defensive. :)

        • Bunzi

That whole post was being ultra-sarcastic.

Except the military uniform part – I still think that’s probably the only good thing to come out of Other M.

          • 愛憎

Ah, I couldn’t tell. I see a lot of posts here like that, which happen to be serious. Sarcasm is kind of hard to read on the internet, unless you know the person.

    • Ishaan

Samus has always been very tall. You couldn’t tell in Metroid: Other M either, until you saw her standing next to Madeline, towering over her.

They might have had to adjust her height for Smash, though, since you can only make the fighters so large.

      • AuraGuyChris

I think she was standing on a ledge in that scene…

      • Suicunesol

I didn’t think about that. :o They probably also increased Pikachu’s and Kirby’s sizes to make them easier to discern onscreen.

        • Ishaan

Sakurai did talk about Yoshi now stands on two feet all the time, so he’s a little bit “taller” than in the previous games. So yeah, they definitely are making some changes to the overall height mix.

          • Hinataharem

You aren’t wrong there. Olimar is dwarfed by pineapples in his home game.

    • Reficul Terumi

And Charizard doesn’t look 5’07″ either. What’s your point?

      • Suicunesol

Nothing. :) I’m just posting an interesting article that some people might appreciate. The inside of the power suit is really interesting.

Also, I think Charizards in general can be 5’7”.
EDIT: Wow, 5’7” is smaller than I thought…

    • J_Joestar

well to be fair, this isn’t the “real” Samus as they are supposed to be trophies come to life, so their scaling may not be perfect.

i mean, think how small Olimar or Kirby should be..

  • anthony apduhan

Nintendo is only focused kids and children they said… Well take a look at this ha!

    • Astraye

Come on, thats nothing, it’s not like she wears a bikini or something like that.

  • AceEsper

  • AzureNova

    Wow, she looks awesome =^_^=

  • 愛憎

Hahaha. These comments. It looks good!

  • iKen

    Dat booty though :)

  • Namuro

Anyway, that’s pretty nice! Kinda make me wish that the blue suit-Samus would have her hair untied!

  • Freud_Hater

    How gratuitous…

…I didn’t say that I didn’t want those costumes in the game, though…

  • David García Abril

I still hate the high heels…

  • KALiverin

Ain’t nothing wrong with being sexy and strong. I approve.

  • Symbol de Au

    Heel Yeah!

  • AzureRyuujin

…Mei-Ling, Samus took her clothes off!

Eh, just kidding. In seriousness, this is a pretty neat alt that is an interesting reminder of one of the first speedrun bonuses in gaming.

  • MrJechgo

No Justin Bailey (NES) or Super Metroid versions? Booooooooooooooh.

Come on now, they could have fit 2 more ZSS in these screens XD

  • DeadLineDance

“But thanks to the determination of her female designer…”
I like how he threw that in there. Way to cover your butt, Sakurai. Because that TOTALLY worked for Skullgirls…

    • Shippoyasha

It did. Only the completely insufferable whiners thought it was ‘inexcusable’. There is no satiating them.

      • DeadLineDance

Yeah, I was trying to refer to that, but it was a bit oblique of me. Re-reading my comment, I don’t think the sarcasm worked there.
To clarify, I’m amused by Sakurai’s comment, and believe such “insufferable whiners” as you refer to need to shut their pie-holes. It’s still rather surreal to see a bikini-clad character next to Mario and Pikachu, but I don’t actually have a problem with it.
Imagine if Bayonetta had made it in. That would be weeeiiiirrdd~

  • KazukiNanbu

omg is the legendary Justin Bailey!!!!

  • Kroz

damn it samus your almost too hot to be a nintendo character…..main alt confirmed.

    • Dexterino

Sooo hot that she should appear as a guest character in DoA series? XD

  • kylehyde

“On Miiverse, Sakurai wrote: “Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That’s what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time.””

    But but Ubisoft said, nevermind

    • Halexies

    • KanjiLikesBoys

While I agree that comment was embarrassing we need to realize it was one dude at Ubisoft who said that. He wasn’t a dev, and he has no idea what he was talking about and he wasn’t speaking for the company as a whole.

Just, ya know, some perspective on things.

      • kylehyde

Still we haven’t get a further statement about the comment, I mean, look at what happened with issue about tomodachi life and the not so fortunate response, nintendo make another statement to clarify the things. I haven’t see a similar thing about the issue on the female playable characters models on ubisoft side or a further clarification. Of course theres the possibility that they are going to include some female playable characters on DLC form. But still the only thing word that we have is the embarassing comment.

Just, ya know, some perspective on things.

        • KanjiLikesBoys

no you’re right. they didn’t make a change to the game after the dumb statement. The game was too far along and it wasn’t a priority. I’m just saying the “too difficult” thing was a bogus, untrained answer and doesn’t reflect the situation.

      • XypherCode

Being that one dude who’s actually the CEO…that pretty much says he’s speaking for the company.

        • KanjiLikesBoys

The person in question, James Therein, is not the CEO of ubisoft.

he’s the technical director of just the AssCreed franchise

          • XypherCode

Oh ok my bad. I thought you meant Yves.

  • ZnTxn

So it means they finished those under two hours? :V

  • KanjiLikesBoys

eh. I’m not even mad. Looks like stuff you’d wear wile jogging

    • Snorlaxation

Pffft. Yeah, except for those heels. Poor girl looks like she got transfered to the Intergalactic Honeypot division.

Still though, I don’t have it in me to actually get mad about this. I just want the game already.

And really, if they give me a shirtless Snake in this game, with his already HD ass, I’m all good.

      • XypherCode

You’re saying that because the heels are visually unappealing? Or a wrong fashion choice? Or Samus, as a girl, is not fit to wear heels….while fighting….?

        • puchinri

I can’t speak for Snorlaxation, but me personally (and what I’ve seen a lot of), I think it comes to down being a butt-ugly fashion choice first and foremost (as a fashion lover, they make me throw up in my mouth lol).

But after that, it’s an entirely illogical choice and not something a fighter would wear to go into a fight. Yes, plenty of women (and men) are capable of fighting in heels, but no one trying to be practical is going to choose some. They could have made them wedge-styled at least. Saying they’re “jets” is just silly too and doesn’t help really.

I don’t think heels fight into Samus’s personality either, but people will make what they want of her personality, so~.

        • Snorlaxation

I have pretty much the same opinion/response to your comment as puchinri.

Anna from Tekken wore high heels in battle, but you could also change her outfit and she wouldn’t be. Being stuck in (admittedly bizarre looking) jet high heels for the whole battle just doesn’t fit, and it doesn’t fit Samus. I’m torn between thinking the heels are ugly, and thinking, ‘cool, space high heels’. But I’m totally concrete on thinking how lame it is that they did this to Samus, and then tried saying, ‘they’re space boots.’ Yeah fuckin’ right.

  • Rebel Vegas

Meh, as long as she plays better than Zero Suit in Brawl I’m down for any costume.

  • Ronldbx6

    Damn, sexy.

  • British_Otaku

After the jet rocket high heels, I wonder how a nod to prior games like this will go on the interwebs. :P

    • J_Joestar

making a female character show more skin? not well…

  • 하세요

Conan called it. “Is there a Birthday Suit Samus?”

  • Ric Vazquez

  • Shinyhunter7

I’d be mad about these if they weren’t old outfits I’d already seen, but they are, so I really don’t mind. It’s silly, but it doesn’t bother me.

  • Kaetsu

You can’t really complain since this outfit was already used in previous Metroid games.

    • Snorlaxation

      Let’s be honest.
      You can still complain.

(Mostly because there’s always at least one person complaining about something). But seriously. With those ‘boots’ and that outfit, poor samus looks about ready to give some Intergalactic Service of a whole different kind.

      • Shippoyasha

Really? Everyday people in real life wear skimpier than that. Looks like summer wear, really.

        • Snorlaxation

Yes they can. But combined with the already much talked/complained about jet boots/jet heels? People are gonna have something to say. At least, those who think these outfits never existed before…

Anyway, I’m hoping I’m wrong, and that no one says anything, that My overreaction, is the Only overreaction. But I guess we’ll see.

          • Sylveria Shini

Just shows how shut-in these “outraged” people are. I just got back from the beach. I could look out my window at any given time of the day and see more exposed skin walking around than if you took the entire history exposed body in gaming and put them in a big fleshy pile. And Im not just talking sun-bathers, Im talking about people walking down the boardwalk, going to shops, eating, smoking, talking, and so on.

It just baffles me. I presume these people went to school, watch TV, go outside atleast once a week to get the mail… they should know that society is fairly big on showing skin and sex appeal. It’s not the 50s anymore.

          • Gentle Robot

Let’s see Captain Falcon’s alt Speedo costume and we’ll talk. This is pretty rank sexism toward Nintendo’s most powerful female.

          • Snorlaxation

I agree. But I’d also shut up and ogle the Captain in a Speedo. Make it happen Nintendo!

          • J_Joestar

tell that to all the women’s MMA fighters who wear clothes that are not that far off for this in their matches.

          • Snorlaxation

Do they wear heels with those outfits? No. That’s the point.

For samus to wear this outfit when she usually wears an all encompasing Chozo suit? Makes perfect sense. To wear this stuff with heels? Pfff

          • Gentle Robot

yeah those shows are definitely made for women

          • J_Joestar

pretty sure both sexes can watch it.

          • Jeffrey Thrash

Makes sense, but I think your argument would hold more weight if you mentioned someplace other than the boardwalk, because not a lot of people go to the beach in formal wear. For instance, sometimes I see people–male and female–dress sexy at the movie theatre I go to simply because that is how they like to dress, and it’s not even a fancy theatre. Regardless, it is just human nature to enforce our ideals on others.

          • Charles Parker

Lets be fair here, these are Samus’s street clothes. Other than her zero suit of skin tight spandex this is what we see her wear when she isn’t wearing the power armor. The only other thing we see her wear outside her armor is a military uniform…in Other M. And wouldn’t we all just like to forget that happened? Comfortable shorts and top fit for weeks alone in spaceflight it is!

          • Jeffrey Thrash

I guess it also depends on where you live, too. It’s a lot easier to be modest in colder climates or places where Hollywood doesn’t affect the culture as much and thus offended by this type of clothing. Still, Sakurai or whoever is masquerading as Sakurai should own up to the fact that this costume appeals to boys because I don’t see a lot of female gamers willingly choosing these alternate outfits either way.

          • Dexterino

Snorlaxation you don’t like them heels? I’m assuming you are a female based off your comment.

-Anyways I think you are over reacting, “Intergalactic Service of a whole different kind.” Come on relax.

            - I was thinking the alternate costumes were either going to be her Shorts Casual Outfit or her Other M Military Uniform.

          • Snorlaxation

I’m actually a dude. And I really do like ladies in heels. Sometimes it’s even cool to see them battle in heels. But not always, and not like this.

And yeah, definitely not overreacting about the outfit+heels. The outfit alone gets me thinking about a kickass babe, ready to grapple, but with the heels? Mixed and confused, and the first thing that comes to mind is extremely-high-priced-can-kick-your-ass-hooker.

Fashion, height, or sex appeal are pretty much the only reason I’ve ever heard that heels are worn. Samus isn’t the kind of person who cares about fashion. Height? Doesn’t need it. That leaves… sex appeal. But whatever. I’ll still play as her, it’ll just be something that I have to ignore.

          • Dexterino

Cool I understand your point. Everyone has their own opinions on the female dev. decision. It is what it is.

          • Gentle Robot

Really? I think women look like shit in heels. Their legs look strange and their butts get weird.

          • Hinataharem

          • Gentle Robot

            Suck it sexist

          • Hinataharem

            Right. Whatever troll

          • Symbol de Au

Fine then. Call him a troll instead of owning up to your sexism.

Darn it I want to just post it but I have to say…I’m joking…now there’s no point to this post at all. The internet ruins everything.

          • Hinataharem

That scared me for a sec. I was like” why is everyone calling me sexist?”

          • Chris Evan Jonance Ingeniero

thats the main point of heels. to elongate the legs and to tighten the butts which makes the user visually sexy. if you cant appreciate that it just means 1. you are still a kid or 2. you have a very bad taste

          • Gentle Robot

Maybe I just don’t like women looking all jacked up for no reason. I hate makeup too. Maybe the inability to distinguish a real woman from some bizarre facade makes you a child.

          • Snorlaxation

To each their own of course, but I’m a fan of them, when their used in the RIGHT context/situation

  • AuraGuyChris

There’s nothing wrong with this. What do you say, Ringabel?

    • God

69 likes… sot i perfect… now that i jinxed it, i wonder how many seconds it will take for someone to screw it up.

  • Black Is a Status

in the 90′s we got Chun Li’s underwear in Street Fighter, 2010 kids get Samus

    • J_Joestar

even in the 90s we had Samus already though…
just that you had to be good enough to finish in the time limit.

  • Christopher C

People can complain, but it shouldn’t effect gameplay or the rating too much (I mean, weren’t Zero Mission and Fusion E rated?)

  • glenngunnerzero

    Yeah Casual Samus.

  • Spider-Man

    *licks lip* Bueno…

  • Miss_Madness

Actually when I saw her old outfits
    These came to mind

    • puchinri

Even though I prefer them a little thicker and buffer, that is so sexy~.
I think I need to go do some pic-hunting now. >u>

      • Hinataharem

        • puchinri

    • Snorlaxation

As do I! But the heels really don’t help that. Jet boots however? Definitely would’ve

  • Kornelious

    Hell yes! <3

Though something worries me…..Sakurai said we might not have enough time to fit this in with the remaining development time….Does that count for new characters too?….But since they were already planned then they could already be done….Maybe I'm just over thinking this -_- …..Look at that ZERO SUIT though! XD

    • XypherCode

They can always do costume/skin DLC maybe sometime after launch. No char DLC please…unless it’s free.

  • Brimfyre

What’s interesting about that image of Samus at the bar is it shows that aliens live among humans during the day to day activities. I’ve never really thought about that much. It always seemed like humans went from planet to planet but other races stayed on their own world for the most part.

Perhaps a Star Fox/Metroid crossover could work…. kidding, please don’t ever let that happen.

    • Dexterino

I wouldn’t like that happening at all Brimfyre. LOL

    • Suicunesol

I much prefer the Metroid x F-Zero idea.

  • SlickRoach

Good lord, I’m drowning in sea of Rule 34 now.

    • Dexterino

      Awwwww YEAHHHHHH

      • SlickRoach

Apparently the skin tight body suit wasn’t enough. I ain’t even mad though.

        • Dexterino

No complaints here SlickRoach. I bet Peach and Rosalina will get their MK8 motorcycle jumpsuits as an alternate? What you think? LOL

          • XypherCode

            I’d love that.

  • XypherCode

Fan service that I actually approve! xD
Seriously people shouldn’t be complaining too much about this. Pretty normal clothing (gym wear?) Even with the jet high heels. For goodness sake it’s a video game. I’ve already seen too many women fight in heels…in movies…and it’s perfectly fine. Samus overly sexualized? No.

    • Dexterino

Yeah, who doesn’t like her casual clothes? LOL
I think everyone is complaining about her Heels that it. Chalk it up with the female dev. who did that. :P

  • puchinri

Big sigh. As Bepp-sensei would say~.

I really love the outfits, and I especially adore the artwork they come from. But, given how Smash has treated some of the female characters so far (especially Samus), my first instinct is not to trust it, and my first reaction was an eyeroll.

However, it’s kind of nice that they don’t relegate only female characters to fanservice. Last time it was Snake, this time it’s Capt. Falcon and Ike to some extent. But poor Samus. It just doesn’t fit her and shouldn’t be her.

And for people telling folks not to complain: don’t. It’s fine if you’re okay with it, but some people won’t be. It’s their right to not like it and complain, just like you’re free to enjoy it and say as much~.

I’m just disappointed we see an alt costume for ZSS before Samus in her actual armor/suits.

    • IceAnt573

The alt. costume based off Samus’ Light Suit in Prime 2 was shown off like a month earlier next to Captain A’Mario (also a very unfitting design choice, but still a cool callback. If Smash had strive for realism, then Mr. Game & Watch and Villager would never had been fighters).

      • puchinri

Oh, the white one? Yeah, I was hoping for something like the Varia suit. x’D

    • Reficul Terumi

Just a preemptive. I do not take offense to you not liking fan service as it’s not for everyone and is understandable. But how can you just come out and say that this (or anything Samus wears) is not in line with her character? Nintendo didn’t just come up with these designs yesterday. They have been outfits Samus has worn over the years in official art sense the beginning of Metroid.

Additionally, fan service (at least in this context) is simply making a character attractive to the opposite sex for the sake of making the character more likable. And for some reason people seem to think this can/is only done by showing skin. Do you think people think Cpt.Falcon’s tights are more attractive to women than pretty boy Marth/Link/Pit?

And what do you mean how Smash has treated women in Smash exactly? By showing them off as attractive yet powerful fighters who are in league with the likes of Link, Mario, Megaman, and Marth without rejecting their femininity? As for Zero Suit Samus, Nintendo buffed her kit a big deal to where she a contender for top tier but because of the way she dresses Nintendo has somehow given her a slight in this game?

I’m not going to tell people not to complain because like you correctly stated, it’s their right. However, I will ask that you are to complain at least try to make sense or correctly justify what it is you are complaining about. Saying that the costume “isn’t her” is factually incorrect and anyone who has played the older games could tell you that.

      • puchinri

Just a quick disclaimer : It’s not fanservice or sexuality that I inherently dislike – just how it’s handled. Samus should not be Ms. Fanservice. If they needed a sexual, female fighter, they should have added Bayonetta~. (And I still hold out hope that she makes it in!)

I’m just saying that being a fanservice character doesn’t fit her. I also acknowledged the existence of the costumes from their original games and that I liked them in it. But remember, Samus does not do her bounty-hunting in these. She’s relaxing, and this is post-game material. We can also make the funny joke that she beats up other Nintendo characters on her off-time, but what purpose does this serve, really? I also don’t see them making an effort (yet; I will give them time) to put more skintight outfits on any of the guys, or give them less and less clothing. But like I said, Ike and Capt. Falcon are slowly joining the fanservice club too. (Capt Falcon with dat booty. UNF!)

I feel I clarified enough, but if you still need more clarification, I’ll try to breakdown what I’m saying in different points~.

        • Reficul Terumi

I actually agree with you on a lot of these points I just don’t feel you are looking at this correctly. I completely agree that Samus should not be Ms. Fanservice. And I don’t think she is even in her Zero Suit or this outfit. I believe there is a difference between a sexy character (Samus) and a sexual character (Bayonetta). It’s hard to explain but I can try if you want me to. Also I think Nintendo have been rather consistent with who gets tights and who doesn’t. Females have Shiek, ZS Samus, and Wiifit. Whereas males have Cpt.Falcon, Wiifit, and Pit. I honestly wouldn’t mind if we got shirtless fisherman Link or something similar.

          • puchinri

Hmm. I think I get what you mean. I mean, Samus is attractive (in conventional and traditional ways). And while I speak for myself on this part, I’m sure many can relate – her strength and badassery are also incredibly sexy~. But I just mean that as a fighter, it feels weird. But I guess that’s where it goes into the character vs creator. . .

Yes, they have been mostly. I also give them credit for that and appreciate it. I just notice that with Paulatena, her intro was focused on her rbeasts and hips at one point, and for Samus, ZSS and its handling has always been a bit fanservicey. I just wish they’d bring in a character where sexuality is actually carved into her purpose and being instead of having to use the characters that don’t have that (as strongly) infused in their role/purpose. (Again, Bayonetta would fit in so well and be so fun to play and so sexy~.)

Shirtless fisherman Link would be nice~! I was thinking that since he hasn’t been turned into Mr. Fanservice though, it’d be weird to do it him. (It’d make sense, given how popular he is with certain audiences, but not consistent with his handling so far.)

I must admit though, I do feel the alt/swap is less fanservicey than ZSS herself, and I prefer it. (But then I see the “jet boots” and it ruins it, because her actual boots look so sleek and sexy, so why can’t I have it all!?)

      • Gentle Robot

So it’s old. BFD. It’s old fan-service that they rushed to fit in at the last minute, because there was nothing wrong with the way women have been depicted in video games, ever. I don’t see them rushing to inject Ms. Pac-Man. And guess what? It’s skimpier than anything we’ve seen before. If people want boners they can play DoA.

        • Pauldotexe

Why the hate for fan-service? Honestly I’ll never understand it.

    • Suicunesol

I think Samus’s zero suit received priority for the alt costume mainly because of how easy it is to make one from her base model. The costumes for this game, in general, haven’t been much more than retextures. They’re clearly avoiding additional 3D modeling, which might explain why certain characters like suited Samus might get shafted in regards to alt costumes. (So no Varia suit!)

      • puchinri

Uguuuu! I guess I understand that, but I don’t really want to understand, lol! I just want my Varia and Gravity suit!! TT0TT

    • Pinkemon

Not gonna lie, I did have a kneejerk cringe reaction at this, but I’ve seen some people point out female mixed martial artists wear this sort of stuff too so I went “Eh, fine.”

Thooooough, I would’ve preferred it if she had some killer abs on there like Mikasa from Attack on titan but I can’t have everything I want.

      • Snorlaxation

God that woulda been cool. Ripped Samus!

        • Suicunesol

She should be ripped! She’s supposed to be 200 lbs!

      • puchinri

Definitely. One of the posts on here had a couple of good pics. And that’s actually part of why I love the art from the games, because after blasting aliens’ faces in, she just looks cool and powerful still~. The outfit looks pretty simple but nice. ♥

I want that so badly. vuv
Goodness, I need art of Mikasa and ripped Samus side by side.

    • fancycakes

It doesn’t fit her but they’re from her games? This isn’t something that the SSB devs made up: siliconera even posted screenshots from the game.

I’m not saying I disagree, but this isn’t SSB’s treatment– the outfits are derived from Metroid.

Now if Peach was given these outfits then yes… That would be something SSB made up.

      • Dexterino

I would like Peach and Rosalina to get MK8 Biker Costumes would that be considered made up by the SSB Team? :D

        • fancycakes

LOL I don’t think so since they’re from mario kart. It’d be hilarious if they zoomed around on bikes like wario did in SSBB

          • Dexterino

I forgot to add. How about as an alternate costume choice?

      • puchinri

It’s my bad for not being clear enough in my top comment but I know they’re from the games. However, they’re also post-game, relaxing wear. See my response to Reficul for funny joke and all~.

I actually don’t mind the swap itself and kind of prefer to default ZSS, but I don’t feel like it’s (going to) be used to show how badass Samus is but also someone that is capable of relaxing. x’D

You have a point (and thank you for being polite), but yeah, I know. I just feel like it’s an attempt to up the fanservice (at least it doesn’t just cater to sexual fanservice, but also nostalgia fanservice).

        • fancycakes

I’m not in the business of being rude, my darlin’~

As I mentioned, I don’t disagree. Is Samus misrepresented? Probably. I can’t say for sure since I’m not a Metroid fan. Were there better costume selections they could have gone with that seemed slightly less “fan-sevicey”? Most likely!

What I think this came down to, though, is the days left of development. The release date for the 3DS version is creeping up faster than you’d think, I’m sure the devs are under a lot of pressure, but given the fact that Sakurai didn’t think they had time to implement such basic outfits? I wouldn’t expect much more tbh

          Love your avi btw

          • puchinri

This is gonna sound weird, but I read that top comment in the voice of Bill from True Blood. >u<
But thanks~. you're in a good business. (I wish more people would get in training to join it!)

It really is. It's hitting me a lot how close it is, so that's a good point.

Thank you~! Are you also watching Crystal?

          • fancycakes

Don’t want to derail the topic too much but yes, I am. Been an avid fan of Sailor Moon since I was 6 (I’m 24 now), so you could say I’m a little obsessed. Can’t say I’m pleased with the animation but the story is great. Can’t wait for my queen Venus to show up.

          • puchinri

That’s okay, there have been worse derails here, lol.
Same though~! I managed to get my husband into it too, though I’m definitely obsessed more than he is, haha.

I love the way the art style is handled, but some of the animation is definitely leaving my teary. It makes me anxious for the Blu-rays (worried about pricing and value though). Oh man, when Venus shows up~. I am so excited for Mako-chan already, I don’t even know what I’ll do when Venus shows. And I want her to hold that sword so badly. vuv

      • YamadaDesigns

but if she was given her Mario Tennis outfit….. yummy.

      • YamadaDesigns

wait no, her Mario Strikers outfit, that’s even better.

    • Dexterino

@punchinri her outfit is fine because it’s official work stated by Fancycakes but overall it’s all good. I say they handled Samus pretty well. Nothing really changed?
Even with her armor we all knew that she is a tough woman. Her character isn’t going to change. :)

Samus Armor Alt is that White one though. Her alt was revealed first then ZSS’

    • Fen Y

Without otherM, I’d probably like the costumes overall. Wouldn’t use em, since I prefer her proper armor, but they’re really not bad as such.

OtherM just has soured that for me hardcore :/
I so hope that MEtroid returns to form – in gameplay (as I consider OtherMs gameplay to be dreadful), style (more original areas&enemies, less nostalgic rehashes) and plot (less waxing, less samus depowering, less having Samus as a secondary character in her own game who isn’t even allowed to defeat the final boss o.O)

Summary: Please give a proper altcostume for her real armor, stop reminding me of otherM, Nintendorks!

      • puchinri

Yeah, haha. Basically. I have mixed feelings about the game, because I’ve seen significantly more than I’ve played, but I don’t have great feelings on it certainly.

I am hoping that they do a Prime and classic/Metroidvania style game soon. I’d like one on home console and the other on portable~! (Obvs, Prime on Wii U and classic on 3DS.)

And honestly, if they know that Other M is so divisive/souring for such a large portion of the fandom, you’d think they would do more about it. That is one of my few problems with Nintendo and their franchises. . .

    • Istillduno

Huh, so the policy has changed from when DmC was around and news posts got released without comments sections because Silliconera didn’t want to see people complaining?

      • puchinri

I think the nature of the complains is probably something? But basically, it’d be a long wave of the same thing each time around with the DmC stuff, and some of it did get personal on the devs and that’s also not okay (I do have my opinions on Tameem, but that’s also here nor there).

But yeah, pretty sure that was exclusive to DmC~! You can complain, comment, praise or whatever in every other article! ^u^

Do you plan on complaining about something though? >u<

  • Raging Rasta

‘Scuse me, but, the shorts aren’t short enough.

  • exrazer

I kinda want green hair so it can be justin bailey, but this is great.

  • mckun

I’m more disappointed that she isn’t super ripped or have more muscles like the guys. Its always been a gripe for me.

    • puchinri

I was expecting (and wanting) that too.

      • Max Leo

I’d imagine basing her on a female sprinter’s body would look cool, muscle tone and fit. But she does look kind of pretty close to that already I guess.

    • British_Otaku

Same, it is sort of a bug bear, but even that 3DS Attack on Titan game offers two options for the Battle Idols. Abs and no abs.

      • Fen Y

I’d pick the abs version :D

    • Pauldotexe

If she isn’t ripped in the artwork then why would she be ripped in the games?

      • mckun

I mean in the artwork and in general. She runs around and works out in a type of suit for long hours. Doing work like that would develop some kind of muscles. If Snake/Captain can have it why not her is what I said.

        Inb4: “Nanomachines, son.”

        • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

You do realize how stupid it is to ask for realism in a Nintendo game right. I mean look at Link he’s often a farmer but looking at him he looks like some sort of model for GQ. Hell the latest version of him is even skinnier and androgynous then ever and this ones not a farmer but already some sort of warrior at a very early age. Lets not forget Mario who can lift what looks like a a 2 ton dragon turtle swing him buy the tail and I dont see a six pack on that stomach.

Nintendo has always gone with whats aesthetically pleasing first and realism second and in some cases not at all and frankly I think that’s the right way to go. Way too many franchises try to appeal to realism and practicality today and for me maybe not everyone else it just sucks all the fun out of something.

Also I wasn’t going to say Nanomachine but she does have Chozo (Alien Birdmen) and Metroid DNA in her that’s got to do something to her looks. Maybe keeping her muscle mass more compact or more harder to see. So yeah there is a good scifi reason why she isn’t buffed out.

          • puchinri

Lol, realism is here nor there. The Snake and Capt Falcon mention pretty much names the issue. (And in Mario’s case, tone/atmosphere is much different and if anything, his legs should be muscled; not necessarily the rest of him.)

Samus with abs sounds like it’d be aesthetically pleasing to many (and entirely reasonable + logical).

LOL. Muscles more compact. Sci-fi. That’d be Star Trek science. And I don’t even mean TOS, but reboot.

          • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

Also Snake and Captain Falcon are totally different beasts when it comes to Metroid. Snake has always been buff and he isn’t a Nintendo character whatever they do they have to be approved of by the owners Capt Falcon is nowhere near the icon status of the likes of say Pokemon characters, Mario, Link, and yes Samus Aran. They work with whats been established before. Her looks are consistent with what came before the only change that’s been made was was the highheel rockets and that change was only made because of gameplay.

Also when I mean aesthetically pleasing I also mean consistent if the look was well loved before there going to keep it. There not going to change it because some people on siliconera beat off to pictures of Mikasa Ackerman.. Besides if any major change is going to be made to her design its going to happen in a future Metroid game not Smash.

I just don’t understand peoples bitching Abs/no abs Breasts Highheels. Come on there’s more to gripe about like how underrepresented the franchise is. Only two characters and there both just different versions of the same character. Granted I’ll change my tune if Ridley gets confirmed but come on was I the only one pissed at Dark Samus as an assist trophy instead of a real character. Theirs also those Bounty Hunters from Prime 3 they could have made good characters. Hell they could have been lazy and just took Solid Snakes moves and just given them to Adam Malkovich. It really pisses me off people are going so overboard about something thats a non issue when there is a much bigger issue that nobody is even looking at.

          • puchinri

Consistency is only a minor thing, especially for Smash where they adapt a lot to make things work how they want and need (as they should too). The point with Snake is that he and Samus are equally active and yet she’s not allowed to be toned. Even Falcon has abs and is not as intensive physically as Samus.

No one is whining about it (please consider your language in the future). We’re just commenting that it’d be nice. And it would (for us). If you don’t want/prefer abs, guess what? That’s also fine, but you don’t have to make it so personal or tell people they’re wrong (or convince them otherwise) for having an opinion. You can be concerned about the issues you want and make your own comments concerning them; and those that care about other issues should be able to address them too. Without people telling them that they’re not caring about the right thing.

          • Snorlaxation

Damn your amazing, Puchinri. Fully agree.

And really people, it pays to just keep it simple. Nintendo is a japanese company. Japan wants their ladies feminine. They consider muscles to be masculine.
Plus, who knows how much effort Samus actually puts in on her adventures. Maybe the suit is doing all the work for her, limiting her strength/muscle gain?

          • puchinri

Haha, thanks~! Same to you, actually. You’ve made some great comments and points throughout here, and I appreciated seeing that input around.

I know they’re going through some interesting times now with their own gender norms, feminism and changes. I don’t know if its more so than ever per se, but it’s happening very openly (and especially in politics). I kind of wonder if in the near future, maybe Samus will get abs in her own games~? Maybe she won’t be treated as a reward in her own games, either. Who knows.

Nintendo does like to keep it simple though, and they are known for giving things their own unique flair so I just always look forward to how that will be portrayed. ^u^

          • Snorlaxation

I appreciate that, and your comments too! Thank you.
I’m always hoping for improvements on things like this, mostly cuz I get tired of seeing the same old stuff, but also because seeing variety is never a bad thing, and more people should be aware of that. It’s the spice of life (and other worthy adages).

          • WhyWai

yea, Pikachu should looks more like an electric eel as well… there is no fucking way he can generate electricity just because his cheek is red. We need more scientific approach on Pokemon.

          • puchinri

That was quite witty. But I’m worried that if anyone at Nintendo saw your comment, they’d start getting ideas. x’D

          • mckun

My issue is that well I don’t really see a lot of women with muscles in general in video games/media/anime and I found that strange. Prime example would be F-zero. Those guys are packing. Even Marth has shown muscles and mind you FE is a prominent series. Ike has muscles too if you must compare. Naruto and AoT are the only series that I know of off hand with muscle women.

I don’t mean she must have Mikasa like six packs but she looks like a skinny teenager in my opinion and its my own personal issue from Metroid one. It would make sense if she’s Peach but I don’t enjoy how most of the Nintendo women don’t have any muscle depending on the game but a lot of the guys do. I want to see buff 10/10 with butt women.

I guess its like the fact that one girl from Super Sonico is the only ‘curvy’ woman I know of and it doesn’t appeal to Japan in general and skinny/meek women do appeal to Japanese fandom.

Mario is a different flavor like you told someone else. His body proportion wouldn’t distribute muscles the same way and you have to look at the fact of his height. Link on the other hand his appeal is to be ‘trappy.’ I mean you already have a reverse trap and people used to think Link was a trap anyway lol. Also isn’t Link sorta buff anyway under that tunic? I remember him having muscles like the guys from Free (the short guy or something.)

Tl;DR: I don’t want realism but just not more “I’m 20 but I look like I’m 15 but I can bench press a lot,” women.

          • Pauldotexe

Most women who can lift a lot don’t have such exaggerated abs. Honestly I don’t see buff women period much less in games.

        • Pauldotexe

Samus is in pretty darn good shape. Women don’t get gains as fast as men, and a lot of her strength is also a result of an infusion with chozo dna which I’m guessing doesn’t come with complementary abs.

She runs around in a suit, but that suit enhances her already heightened abilities. Yeah she might develop muscle from moving long distances but a six pack? Most long distance runners aren’t really all that impressive looking, and since she’s not locked in battle or running for her life all the time I’d say she looks about right for someone who goes into and out of combat. As for Snake he probably exercises using traditional methods, but I don’t know a thing about Cap. I don’t know if Cap is supposed to really make any sense. All said Snake ends up pretty weak.

          • mckun

It depends on the woman. My last girlfriend wasn’t Samus skinny but she had muscles. Not Mikasa but god she could land me on my behind quicker than I say “Buri Buri.”

Also its not just long distance. She fights, climbs, picks up, crunches, you name it. You can develop muscles outside of six pack. In your legs, thighs, arms. Since Metroid she has shown no muscles at all and looks really…skinny. Mind you she has to be sweating doing all of this.

I would understand if she’s 14 like Railgun but Samus is around her 20s so I find it odd that her body is less buff than Yukari from Persona 4 XD Its like in Japan all girls have to be skinny with no muscles, which is why a woman like Mikasa was so shocking because you had the loli who could pick up a ton more so than the bara guy before that. For the life of me I can’t remember any other lead girl that had muscles like that. Maybe Naruto.

TL;DR: I just want to see more buff women in general in video games. They are not ugly and its kind of hot to me.

      • British_Otaku

A fair point actually, it would be a nice touch given that other characters have gotten some adjustments for Smash Bros in size and design. It seems like the type of thing that would make sense as well, no real other reason. >_>

  • Elizabeth ‘Ely’ Moreno

Nintendo really has a thing for Samus…
    (Never forget Tomodachi Direct)

  • Jake Cline

Pssst… It’s a video game. Featuring costume designs which are already part of the respective franchise. Friendly reminder not to overthink this.

  • Pauldotexe

Really? I say one negative about feminists and my comment gets deleted? Well I know where siliconera stands.

    • puchinri

That depends on what you said. But there’s no reason to start dragging in groups that weren’t involved with anything in the first place.

    • Zero_Destiny

Stands for actual intelligent conversation related to the article at hand, and not just using said article as an excuse for dragging whatever personal agenda or vendetta through the mud.

      Stands for not being hateful.

Stands for making a community that feels accepting and safe, and not judgmental.

That is where Siliconera stands. Let’s have this be a warning for you. Next time you want to throw a little hissy fit, derail articles about things that aren’t even related to it, or just plain be hateful and rude, further action will be taken.

      Thanks, have a good day.

    Metroid: Fit starring Cross-Trainer Samus.

Zero Suit Samus doing the Hula Hoop!!!

  • Guest

Now to break everyone’s dreams: Samus’ boobs are fake. How do I know? Natural boobs MOVE. Like hands move, like hair moves, like body parts move. And I’m not asking DoA physics, those are DISGUSTING, but I’m just saying is how body works. And if they are gonna give her boobs that big anyway, they might as well just do it RIGHT.
    Ok bye.

    • puchinri

But. . . they jiggle? They do have movement. But if I started talking about breasts in video games (among other things), I just wouldn’t stop. x’D

      • Midori Inaba

Well, they DON’T jiggle in Brawl, so they BETTER here, or else they are FAKE.
I don’t really know why I’m talking about this D:

        • puchinri

          Hah, that’s true.
Although i feel like I’ve seen fake breasts move too. . .?
But I mean, Samus’s breasts are her business. Obviously, plenty of others argue otherwise and want to be all up in her bust, but they just don’t respect her privacy. vov (But nor do the devs! lol~!)

          • Midori Inaba

No, I just find funny that the “family friendly company” Nintendo have always had their female characters all sporting fake boobs.

          • Reficul Terumi

And I find it funny when people try to apply biological logic to irrelevant factors in video games while ignoring others. The reason Samus’s breasts don’t jiggle in Smash is not because they are fake, (whether they are or not does not matter to me. She could be flat and she’d still be Samus to me) but because Nintindo is not focusing their work on her breasts, but rather her model and gameplay.

It would be like discussing the realism of Luigi’s nose and the way it moves. I don’t even know how breasts are not “family friendly”. Unless you’re some sort of ultra conservative then unless they are being portrayed in a pornographic sense, there should be no dilemma. Mind you Nintendo is also a Japanese company. And as such do not have the narrow mindset that us westerners do about sexuality. They can have a woman with an attractive figure without the right saying it’s obscene or the left saying it’s objectifying.

While we are on the subject of biological differences to reality and fun fiction are not also going to harp on the fact that Samus can curl into a perfect ball? How about the fact that all the characters can double jump when such a thing is impossible in real life? Why focus on the character’s breast physics?

          • Midori Inaba

“Why focus on the character’s breast physics?”
Cause that’s how human normal anatomy works. Hair moves with the wind, muscles extend with movement, boobs jiggle with motion. It’s a normal thing and I don’t see why people see is as a taboo.
I’m not “ultra conservative” and I don’t understand what porn has to do with ANYTHING here, nor do I believe Nintendo being japanese has any influence on anything. No, it’s just too “taboo” for them.
I don’t really care, other than making people object pointlessly in favor of Nintendo when the subject is completely irrelevant. THAT is the fun part (:

          • Reficul Terumi

Like I said, it just seems like an odd think to nitpick at that unless your plan was just to fish for comments. I don’t think jiggle physics is or should be taboo. I just told you why Smash doesn’t have them. You also Implied that breasts were not family friendly to which I objected except in the case they would be shown in a pornographic manner. I was not implying that porn had anything to with anything here (as I was using it as a adjective and not a noun) so I’m not sure how you read in to that.

It’s not taboo for Nintendo to have jiggle physics. It’s just not what they are concerning themselves with when they were making this game.

The country of origin has ALOT to do with what the creators find is and is not permissible in a game. Because Japanese media isn’t so reserved when comes to how they can the create human body, implying that Nintendo decided not to include jiggle physics because Nintendo finds it or is worried about jiggle physics being taboo is just silly.

          • Midori Inaba

You don’t understand. Nintendo may be missing the jiggle animation or w/e, I don’t really care. The funny part is having you guys long answers towards such an irrelevant topic.

          • Reficul Terumi

So are you just trolling then? “ha ha I was just pretending to be ridiculous and saying things that would surely get some attention XDDD!1!!”

            Well 11/10 for you then.

          • Midori Inaba

Not really, what I said is also true (:

          • Pippykins

Of course they’re fake. They’re made of polygons.

          • Midori Inaba

Have you ever watched The Matrix?

        • Hound

Question: Does anything jiggle amongst the chaos in Brawl? Does kirby act like jello when he lands, etc? I’ve only played Melee.

I imagine that everything has very little kinetic animation on account of the highly zoomed out camera & 3DS port.

It’d sure be neat if Nintendo could add a level of dynamicism to every character if they had such a capacity though. Things like rendered fur, muscle contortions, and dramatic lighting..

          • Midori Inaba

            Pikachu’s belly jiggles in Smash 64 :D

    • Sean Johnson

You do realize that when boobs do jiggle in games, every moral guardian within a five mile radius starts foaming at the mouth and grabbing their torches and pitchforks to go raze Japan, right?

      • Midori Inaba

Not really… and even if I’m not really serious about Samus and I’m just fooling around a little, it’s still true that boobs are just another part of the human body, and they also have natural motions, but people make such a huge deal about it that it’s very common to have super detailed well put together models (like Samus for instance…) that the designers also decide should be pretty big (she’s like 9 times my size) but the natural motion is left aside.
Like I said elsewhere, I don’t really… “care”? but I still find it funny in a way.

    • Prosciutto93

I’d agree with you, but what Samus is wearing seems akin to a sports bra.

    • Adam Smith

They won’t make them move in SSB because fuck you and that takes time and money to animate and to simulate accurate movement. Instead of focusing on breast jiggle physics Sakurai is going to focus on actual matters at hand, like character balancing and finishing the roster along with DLC after the game is finished. Her boobs are real, because they function in other games just fine. Just because they won’t function 100% like real ones in SSB does not make them “fake”

      • Midori Inaba

        >because fuck you.
You lost me there. Can’t take you seriously with that (:
        Take care.

      • Edward O’Shea

woah, chill out. This is a game, is she like your girlfriend or something?

    • Yasuo The Unforgiven

You really think they would apply Jiggle bone to Samus’ breasts?? They would get more complaints from mothers and women than they would compliments from dudes!

    • Kakkoii

The problem is, even if you do that, then you get people coming out of the woodwork calling it “sexist” that she has boob-physics. You see it everytime a game has boob physics, it’s really annoying.

  • Arno Victor Dorian

    Samus is quite hot

  • Eric Arntson

Why is there this much discussion on an imaginary woman’s breasts?

    • Black Ass Joker

    • Deckard Pain

You must be new to video games, where 90% of the gaming ‘community’ are 14-20ish year old males.

  • Edward Richtofen

My kids are gonna love this game :3

  • SakuStar Light

lol at this point in time allot of people have there foot inside there mouth cause Nintendo is sure pulling out all the stops on people.

  • puchinri

Not always. And unless someone declared they are a feminist, why drag their name into it? You pointlessly targeted a group that isn’t really involved/doing anything. x’D

A variety of people, actually, lol. And notice? You’re whining about feminists, so obviously people that aren’t feminist are also doing whining of their own~! lawl

I think only one person identified themself as a feminist, and they said they’re fine with this. I’ll up the count for you, if you like? I am also feminist. Guess what? I said I like the outfit themselves~! (I just don’t trust the team right now for my own reasons, and it doesn’t have anything to do with just the outfit itself.)

  • Pauldotexe

For the sake of defaming and discrediting feminists, and yes always. Men have suffered enough, and it’s only going to get worse if things continue like this. Do you really think we need feminists when women already have it better than men? Feminism teaches women to see themselves as victims and men as oppressors. That men are the enemy, and women are moral and good when they’re just as cruel as men are. It’s trying to solve human issues by only concentrating on those of women. If women are such sad little victims, then why are men three times more likely to commit suicide? Are they just weak? Is their “male privilege” too much for them to handle? Feminists turn my stomach.

  • puchinri

If you feel that way about feminists, there probably isn’t much I can do inform and educate on it to help you feel more comfortable about them. But I will say: Feminism teaches women that they are victims, yes. Because they are. But it also teaches that men are victims too. And it doesn’t have to teach that men are the oppressors because that is the reality. Is it a great one? No, but feminism aims to teach that.

There are bad people that will identify as feminists just like good people will. That goes as far as obnoxious to rude to ignorant people (and hypocritical) just as much as understanding, kind and sincere people. But that also doesn’t cover just feminism. It’s important to look at why you hate a certain group of people and examine it, break it down and reconcile it with yourself (unless you’re fine with hating them; then it doesn’t matter).

Ultimately, Siliconera is not a place for you to unload your hate of them. Not in the gaming and news articles, anyway (maybe OT?). Derails happen, but lets avoid dragging people and groups that don’t actually have anything to do with the subject matter into the discussion. Next time if the article has something to do with feminists, you’re free to rant about them as you please, but otherwise, you’ll have to save it for the OT or take it elsewhere.

  • Pauldotexe

Inform me? What that I’m a rapist and a misogynist?Women are not victims. You’re only proving my point. You’re not a victim and men are not oppressors. Men are and always have been your protectors, and they’ll never stop because they like women too much to stop. Yeah they might think women are attractive but they’re biologically programmed to think that and shouldn’t be condemned for it.

There are bad people who do terrible things, but the people who think they’re doing good are the ones you have to worry about the most. I’m perfectly okay with hating them just as much as they hate me for having a dick.

Anywhere is a good place to talk about this sort of thing, but I understand your not wanting it here.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

This is a article about Samus’s alternate costume in Smash Bros… leaving how you feel about feminists aside, this isn’t quite the place to bring it. We aren’t even talking about Samus or Smash anymore.
There’s no need to discuss this further, please end this at once.

  • puchinri

You took that way overboard. x’D
So, yeah. You have lots of feelings that are your own and need their own unpacking. I have no clue where you pulled any of that from.

But no, anywhere is not a good place to talk about it. Designated spaces are spaces meant for certain things. Undesignated spaces are great places to talk about it though. This is the last time I’m going to continue this, because I just told you that if you have problems with feminism/feminists, this is not the place and you can go to the Open Thread instead.

  • Zero_Destiny

  • Pauldotexe

On second thought why can’t we argue about feminism here? Where else are we going to do it? Should I invite someone to a chat or something?

  • Zero_Destiny

Going off of what I’m seeing in the deleted bin, we have two comments that seem mostly like a pretty big one sided rant, and one derogatory comment that just outright insults people for their idealogical belief.

I imagine the tone was a pretty big deal, and the fact that it was less discussion and more, in your face this is how it is, deal with it. The tone itself did also carry quite hateful connotations to it. Coming off as school yard fighting. Throwing an insult in there, just to stir things up. The comment could of been written without any insult and not lose its value. But yet you decided to throw an insult in there all the same.

Generally discussions rely on a give and take between both parties, but you came across as more venting, quick to anger, and not willing to listen. It was also a bit random and didn’t seem to really relate much to what was going on. It seemed more like you just really needed to blow off steam than actually discuss anything. The comment section isn’t really here for that.

Perhaps the best advice I can give you is, if you’re going to type angry, you may wish not to hit that ‘post’ button. At the end of the day, this is just a game blog. We’re here to have fun, discus our hobbies, and be welcoming. We’re not here to vent frustrations, start fighting, or be caught up in the latest drama of whatever.

  • Pauldotexe

Aren’t internet fights more fun with insults here and there? I welcome anyone who wants to throw some at me too.

That said I suppose you’re right. Sorry man but I don’t want to stop using Siliconera. I’ve yet to find a better news site for the things I’m interested in. I’ll tone myself down.

  • Zero_Destiny

No worries. Thanks for hanging through all the way with me.
