Mighty Gunvolt Takes After The NES Mega Man Games

Earlier today, Inti Creates announced a new Nintendo 3DS collaboration project called Mighty Gunvolt, featuring heroes from Mighty No.9, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Galgun. Game Jouhou provides us with a first look and the latest details behind the new project.

According to the report, Mighty Gunvolt will be given away for free to those who purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt from now [in Japan] until November 19, 2014, as part of an early purchase bonus.

As you can see in the above images, the three playable characters are Ekoro from Galgun, Beck from Mighty No. 9, and Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt. Inti Creates also announced that they have plans for for DLC for the game, including new bosses and stages.

The report doesn’t say whether the game is already available for those who purchased Azure Striker Gunvolt in Japan, but we’ll likely hear something about that soon. Meanwhile, North America will get Azure Striker Gunvolt on August 29, 2014 and later on for Europe.

I was hoping for Azure firing lemons at traffic cones with clothing damage

    • SpeeeeedowaGOOONnnn

Your profile pic says it all…

  • Byas

That’s… actually pretty nice. I hope it comes to the US/Europe.

I got a game called “Mighty Gunvolt” when I downloaded the Japanese version of “Azure Striker Gunvolt”.

    • smash

I downloaded it as well but i don’t see “Mighty Gunvolt” any where

      • Shane J

After I downloaded the game, I was taken to a screen that offered a code and below the code was a button to use the code right then.

So, I clicked the button and it took me to the download screen for “Mighty Gunvolt”.

Is the language barrier heavy? I want to get it for both of my consoles but I fear many of the abilities / items will be tough to figure out because of language. I’m not too concerned about story.

          • British_Otaku

The game hasn’t been out for long (so I haven’t finished it to know everything) but you should be able to pick up on things very easily.

The game just makes sense to the point that long explanations don’t seem necessary, if you have a grasp of katakana you may be in the complete clear for the game though it doesn’t provide kana for any kanji if you care about the story.

If you want to save or do most menu things, the images used are universal (a pencil for saving?) with plenty of English for the fundamental customisation which can be done on the fly in a mission if you want to experiment with a new dart or other equips (not specific skills but the images or one use of them when replaying a mission will tell your most of the use if you can’t read the specifics).

I know absolutely no Japanese. Like, none. Only way I make it through MH4 is because MH never changes, so menus and items are always the same exact thing.

I may consider getting it today just so I have something to play. If I get lost, I’ll buy it again in English and then transfer knowledge across.

I was watching a stream of it earlier, looks too fun to care for the story. I fear we may not get that 8bit game in NA, which is kind of a selling point to me as classic Mega Man is my favorite.

          • British_Otaku

I see. I’m sure you can make it through this, but you can make the call if the 8 bit game is confirmed to not come to North America or Europe by November (when this won’t be free for Japan).

This game isn’t too different from Megaman X in structure from what you can tell, so you aren’t going to get lost in the slightest.

        • British_Otaku

Ah! I saw the code as well but shrugged it off for some reason, I’ll go back and get my download after I finish this mission.

  • dragoon_slayer12

Nice, for a game I was gonna get anyways, I get a free game to boot.

  • TheManWithPants

Looks like a retro style Megaman game. I approve.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Might Final Figh…..Gunvolt. Also, this is already awesome.

Why do I think Capcom might have a problem with Beck’s 8-bit incarnation? I see IP lawsuits coming whether warranted or not.

  • Critical hit to the nostalgia nads~! They going all out for a retro 8-bit treat in this one.

  • 하세요

Aw shit, now I actually may need to get the Japanese version. Or I can just get it twice.

  • PreyMantis

    Here’s a gameplay video they uploaded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAClxYeHqMU#t=265

    • 하세요

That is juicy. I think I’ll get the game in English regardless, and if we don’t get the bonuses over here then I’ll get it in Japanese since I can’t read the material descriptions for the main game.

    • OniLuigi

Wow I need this! Hope it comes to the west too.

  • Adrian Duran

Come to the West… or else

  • Mika Moreno

Gunvolt looks so cute in 8-bit form! I hope this comes to the west! :D

guess I have to look up galgun. since I never heard of it

    what the #[email protected]% LOL

  • Yan Zhao

    This actually looks pretty cool.

  • British_Otaku

I bought Gunvolt within the first minutes of it being up on the Japanese eShop so this is a pretty pleasant surprise. I’ll check the eShop later today and maybe give Mighty Gunvolt a spin as well.

Not a bad introduction to GalGun for me too.

  • alixraen

Yay for Galgun! I wish it had been localized, but I think it was just a bit too early in terms of willingness for games like that getting brought over considering all we’ve gotten recently. Maybe remastered for PS4? Digital release on PS3?

  • natchu96

In the words of Blank: This is just f***ing Gal*gun.

Well this is one weird collab.

  • Ric Vazquez

Welp, they know how to earn the $15 many of us will be paying for this.
