BioWare’s RPG classic Icewind Dale is coming to PC, Mac, iOS and Android as an enhanced edition, publisher Beamdog and the Wizards of the Coast have announced. Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will cost $20 on PC. A price for the smart versions hasn’t been announced yet.

Over on the game’s website, Beamdog have put up an FAQ that answers some of the questions you may have about this version of the game. Here’s the one you’re most interested in:

Q: What specific enhancements does Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition offer over the original game?

A: Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition features the following enhancements:

  • Six expanded quests, featuring content cut from the original game
  • 60 new items
  • Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster expansions
  • 31 new class and kit combinations from Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition, well as the half-orc playable race
  • 122 new spells carried over from Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition
  • Cross-platform multiplayer
  • A new “Story Mode” difficulty setting to allow players to experience all of the story with none of the Game Over screens
  • Available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android

You can read the rest of the FAQ over on the game’s website. Beamdog say that they aim to release Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition within the next month.

Looks good, gonna pick this up for sure.

I feel so stupid having Windows Phone.

    • I don’t think they work on iPhone anyway. I think it’s just iPad, or at least that was the case with Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 enhanced.

  • Ty Austin

The fact that they’re so old and such a dedicated community creates mods for these games has me a bit hesitant on picking up any of the enhanced D&D games.

    • Why? It’s stressful trying to mod the original games out. I really enjoyed replaying the original Baldur’s Gate in this enhanced form (despite the awful combat–and Icewind Dale pretty much focuses on the awful combat… yet they are still so fun, go figure). Truth be told tho, I didn’t bother with any of the new content. Seems unnecessary to me.

What’s so stressful about applying the mods to the older games?

Reasoning behind my last comment, I already own the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind dale games. I was interested in the enhanced version of BG, but upon doing research, I read you were just better off downloading a few mods. Saves money and apparently the community mods were better than what was done to the enhanced edition.

        • Fair enough. I don’t know. I stress myself out. It was really nice to just buy Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on Steam for $7 or something and not have to fiddle with anything else. Waited and finally got BG2 on Steam for whatever the recent sale price was too. I like not having to fiddle with stuff. (Normally I spend more time fiddling with things than playing, but that is my problem!)

  • I hope they do Planescape: Torment eventually!

    • Mr_SP

That’s the one I haven’t played. And now with Icewind Dale Enhanced, it seems like they’ll eventually do it, so I think I’ll just wait… I just don’t want to wait too long.

      • You could always get the original. I would say wait, though. You’ve waited this long already. It’s the best one! Completely different to the others, though.

    >Bioware. It’s Black Isle, not Bioware.

I loved this game so much.

Wooo! Was hoping for this after Baldur’s Gate! D&D is back baby!
