If You Miss Jump Ultimate Stars Take A Look At One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X

By Spencer . September 3, 2014 . 2:32am

Sure, this doesn’t have Dragon Ball, Naruto, or Fist of the North Star characters, but One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X from Jump Ultimate Stars developer Ganbarion looks like it carries on the spirit of the series with the Straw Hat Crew. This video explains additions to the battle system that weren’t in earlier One Piece: Grand Battle titles.

Players bring two characters into battle and using an Alliance Action you can create combos where both characters strike an enemy or have another character come out to counter an opponent’s combo. The Support Action system is similar to Jump Ultimate Stars or Marvel vs. Capcom 2 where you can call in an extra character in battle to help counter or extend a combo.

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X comes out on November 13 for Nintendo 3DS in Japan.

    come to america pls

  • Princess_Eevee9

Localize plz. Since we barely got Jump Ultimate and it wasn’t translated.

    • TheGameTagerZ

It was fan translated. An English patch was made a long time ago.

      • Princess_Eevee9

        Guess that counts for something.

  • Shippoyasha

Holy crap this announcer is in EVERYTHING.

    • Hagaren

      It’s Madao from Gintama!

      • Harvey Tejada Loto

I love madao! all hail the king of cardboards!

        • Hagaren

          Hail the Sunglasses!

    • fairysun

      He’s just that cool.

    • King Dedede

He probably works at Namco Bandai for exact purpose of announcing anime games.

    • Lolz i think he’s the voice of Akainu too

      • Hagaren

And Kenpachi from Bleach. Also Youpi from Hunter x Hunter.

        • Harvey Tejada Loto

Imagine kenpachi singing the cardboard song

  • Namuro

You’ve gotta love Japanese commercials like this. Gets you so hyped!!

  • Prevot

This better come out in the US.
    Damn region lock.

    • PenguinPlayer

Not a big fan of One Piece, but Unlimited World R and Romance Dawn came to the west, so if you make some noise I am sure Bandai Namco would be happy to bring this.

Depending on how the other games sold of course.

  • Tails the Foxhound

Lot of characters I would call “superfluous” in this game.

    • Pedro Tavares

Do you actually watch/read one piece? because if you do your comment makes no sense.

      • Tails the Foxhound

I DID read One Piece (I have a rule about watching Shonen Jump anime: Don’t.) up until this latest arc.The amount of throwaway characters and arbitrary lengthening of this arc through utter nonsense made me give it up again. I did the same thing during the Alabasta arc and came back momentarily during the Woppol (sp?) arc only to give it up again until Impeldown for the same reasons. One Piece is Bleach status to me right now, “Some of the characters/powers are kinda cool so I’ll play the games, but f*ck reading it”. I’ll probably attempt to pick it back up again a few arcs from now like last time, which is at least far more than I can say for Bleach.

    • Cephrien

There’s really no such thing as a “superfluous One Piece character” honestly.

      • Tails the Foxhound

Bringing a character back for a bit part (lookin’ at you Marine-kid-who’s-name-I don’t-remember and Bellamy the Hyena) does not make them necessary characters. Like 3 of the 30-someodd characters they introduced in this arc alone, forget for a minute the New World timeskip, are gonna be important in the future, MAYBE. And even those will probably just be some lame Deus Ex Machina.

  • sd28

    super grand battle xesssssuuu

  • triablos

I think this game would’ve benefited from the thick black lines used in Smash Bros 3ds

  • Damn man i sure do miss playing Jump Ultimate Stars online hopefully when this gets localized it will feel in that gap.

  • dahuuuundge

I can’t stand One Piece but Jump Ultimate Stars is one of the best anime multiplayer game ever.

    • Mugiwara

So… this game is ONLY One Piece, I don’t think you’ll like it. :(

  • That awkward moment when the 3ds is ******** REGION LOCKED!!!!!! ion;agheu;hgewghagu

  • Göran Isacson

Huh, so Zed and the whole Doflamingo crew are in this. Didn’t know that they were already so popular. Kinda curious if they’re all playable, or if some like the incomparable señor Pink are just support characters.

  • King Dedede

There are so many brands that would be great with a Smash Bros.-Jump Stars style game.

  • MaskedHeroxx

Dam that games broken, they put shanks in it

    • British_Otaku

Shanks has been in games playable and support since the PS1’s Grand Battle 1, the very first game by this developer iirc and they have in games pretty often from there on.

He tends to be one of the stronger foes or characters, but he’ll be balanced for at least the versus mode in this game. Gigant Battle 1 and 2 had monstrous Shanks levels near the end game and Whitebeard was really strong in Unlimited Adventure, but it all levels out for standard play.

  • doubleO7

Looks fun. If Bamco localizes it I’ll probably pick it up.

  • but I miss JUS BECAUSE of the other series :(

    • British_Otaku

The best you get is J Stars Victory Versus (which may have Assassination Classroom, but is pretty subpar), you can hope that Ganbarion, Jump and Nintendo come to a similar agreement as it would sell incredibly well but you should consider picking up one of the Gigant Battle games or this as it still does a great job at encompassing hundreds of chapters, dozens of characters and references into a great experience even if it doesn’t offer the hype of all of the series in a magazine being avaliable.

On that note, there are other manga game crossovers which include Fairy Tail (Weekly Shonen was it?) and such on the PSP, so you might be interested in digging up other crossover games even if they probably were chasing the coattails of Jump Superstars.

  • Rokmoninov

The rest of the 11 Supernovas better be in this. I want to play as Apoo and Hawkins.

  • Europe got the first Gigant Battle and complete physical versions of Pirate Warriors 2 and Unlimited World Red (NA was missing a couple ports).
    Maybe this can come over?

    • British_Otaku

Are you speaking as a European? Pretty much any One Piece game will make it to Europe if it isn’t a mobile or Card Ass game.

Gigant Battle 2 is the only game we missed in a whole long time, a brilliant game, but the only one we missed. The more up to date the world becomes and the more popular the series becomes, the more likely that even North America won’t miss out on any retail releases. I will be really surprised if Pirate Warriors 3 isn’t retail in North America and this doesn’t make it there with a retail release as well.

      • Slayven19

pirate warriors being digital is thanks to koei more so than namco.

        • British_Otaku

Bandai Namco publish, market and print the One Piece games in every region so it seems reasonable to assume they made the call especially as Bandai Namco released other games in America in a “safe” fashion which had no connection to Koei.

Romance Dawn: Digital primarily despite being on the 3DS.
Unlimited World RED: Digital only for Wii U and digital primarily for Vita.

  • MaidKillua

Needs OP Eneru assist attack where he crashes the moon into the enemies

  • Yue D Andre

My favorite character is Sanji. I like how he only use leg on battle, it’s so frigging cool.

  • wahyudil

    4 player battle … wooooo

  • GreatKino

Please come out in the west!
