Square Enix Are Recruiting More Staff To Help With Kingdom Hearts III

By Sato . September 12, 2014 . 3:05am

Last we heard, Square Enix were conducting a survey for Kingdom Hearts games, and while we don’t know how far along they are in development for Kingdom Hearts III, they are recruiting staff to develop the game.

The first position listed is for a UI designer, who’ll be in charge of user interface work for Kingdom Hearts III. This team member will also do work that involves other designs and putting together data.UI designers will work closely with the planners and programmers to create a user-friendly UI for the game. The required skills and experiences are knowledge in UI and UX, experience in game UI designing and data.

Next is a technical artist position that will put the person in charge of working on high-quality graphics for Kingdom Hearts III, using the latest technology with proper workflow, and various middleware. Technical artists will need art asset experiences, along with knowhow in working on the required graphics and programming.

Finally, the third open position is for a network programmer’s. This position is quite interesting, as they’ll be in charge of designing and implementing a communication system for an online multiplayer game; however, it doesn’t indicate that it’s a position for Kingdom Hearts III like the previous two.

The network programmer will need experience in game development using C++ and deep knowledge and experience in networking. All three positions are for Square Enix’s Osaka branch.

Kingdom Hearts III is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

I thought they had all the staffing figured out a while ago? This news is somewhat worrying. But network features? I’m guessing online co-op might be it?

    • 하세요

“however, it doesn’t indicate that it’s a position for Kingdom Hearts III like the previous two.”

Probably a generic one for other / future games. If it were for KHIII, I’m sure it would’ve specified.

      • Evan Groman

Nah, I think they specifically wouldn’t specify because they don’t want to tell people it’ll have an online mode or anything yet.

But I’m actually kind of assuming there’ll be a mode similar to Birth by Sleep’s, nothing fancy or too fun, just a few missions you can do together.

        • Göran Isacson

Yeah, I’d be all for this- a fun little multiplayer fighting romp with several characters, like BBS or 358/2 Days… then again I am all for anything that has even the potential of letting my play as Mickey Mouse.

        • 하세요

          That would be nice.

    • Yause

The Osaka office has always been a smaller group. They were large enough to develop a major PS2 or PSP/3DS game, but PS4/X1 is a different story.

At any rate, it’s a good idea to work out the fundamentals before ramping up to a huge staff (a huge problem in that past). The only question is whether the required talent is easily available.

  • Guest

You know what, I like Kingdom Hearts as much as anyone else but this is just ridiculous. KH3 has been in development hell for who knows how long and SE has dumped who knows how much money into this over-bloated project. It would probably be best to either full on cancel it or try to salvage the game into something else

It would be really cool to have a KH3! But at this point I can’t see it being anything other than a giant let down. When you take into account how dragged out the development’s been, SE’s recent disappointments in handling its IPs and finances, it’s hard to do anything but cringe whenever I hear news about KH3.

    • Lilburrito

They only started development on this game last year. I think you’re getting this confused with Final Fantasy XV which has been in development since 2006.

      • iron_maw84

FFVX only started development in 2011.

        • Lilburrito

FFXV was formerly known as Final Fantasy XIII Versus. It was in development around the same time as the original FFXIII. In 2013, it was announced that Final Fantasy Versus XIII had become FFXV and that development would be taking it to next gen platforms.

    • Morgan Rodgers

I don’t think it’s been in development hell; they just weren’t developing it because they were milking spin-offs.

    • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

Development hell what are you talking about the game was just started to be made like a little over a year ago. We have had two big main line games on the portables and two spinoff titles that set up the final conflict in this game. Now you changed the words Kingdom Hearts to Final Fantasy vs XIII you would be right a year ago because they did scrap it and its being made into the 15th installment. Now that needs to be playable at TGS and be given a release date that’s taking way to much time.

    • Sora96

The team making KH3 made Re:CoM, BbS, BbSFM, KH3D, HD 1.5 ReMIX and HD 2.5 ReMIX. None of those are spin-off games.

    • The cringe is contagious after reading that highly innacurate portrayal of development time and lack of current known facts that can debate half of your arguments.

    • Steven Higgins

It’s only been in development since 2010. Still that’s almost 5 years but that’s when it was going to be for P3, so the PS4 version has probably only been in development for 3 years at the most, maybe even one.
Think of it this way, development on KH3 started when BBSFM was released and they where simultaneously developing 3D in 2012, 1.5 last year and 2.5 this year. It’s only recently that they’ve been able to focus solely on KHIII

      • Tg

It’s been in development since last year. Not since 2010. :)

        • Steven Higgins

Just because it was announced last year doesn’t mean it began development then. Most games are in development for several years before they have enough show to show for an announcement. Sure in this they said the announcement was premature, but I believe I remember an interview where either Nomura or Yasue said it started in 2010. But that was when it was for the PS3 and like I said, when an in-development game moves to another console they have to start from scratch (it’s not like porting an already completed game) so in 2010 they probably had to start over when they decided to move to the PS4 meaning THIS version, the version we get, wasn’t in development then but they WHERE working on KH III even then.

Also for everyone else straining at the bit, get ready for a bumpy ride because they said in a interview right after the game was announced that the game is begin built in “overspec” on a computer, a computer whose specs exceed that of the PS4/XBO, meaning even after it’s developed we’ll have to wait for the to port it down to those systems before we can actually get our hands on it. The good news is that, more recently they said the development was going full-throttle.

          • Tg

True, team Osaka were working on a few KH3 developmental things prior to E3 2013’s announcement. However, KH3 was never made for the PS3. They never announced in any interview that it was being made for the PS3. Team Osaka was busy with Dream Drop Distance in 2010. Team Tokyo had to help out with XV (formally Versus) and some of its members also had to help out with FFXIII’s development as well.

As of last year, team Osaka now has a lot more time on developing KH3 in “full throttle” for the PS4 and Xbone.

  • DudeJericho

Hope they get some good talent in. Btw I don’t see this as a problem, as long as it’s released and meets expectations in terms of quality.

  • If I got the qualification, I’d apply and if get hired, I can probably take a peek on Nomura’s KH3 story notes… Hehehe.

  • Göran Isacson

A UI developer! I’m trained to design UI:s! Now all I have to do is travel back in time and learn working Japanese and accumulate the necessary work experience for SE to even consider hiring me, and this is gonna be a cinch! Ha ha, ha ha ha haaaa…..

Anyhow. Kinda curious if there’s any way to extrapolate how far along in development they are from these ads, if UI and graphics are things you do at the start, or at the middle or the end of development.

    • sakanaとkoeda

You should go for it. They’ll probably still be in development by the time you have enough experience and language proficiency, no need to time travel :€

Hears loud thump in the city as someonething falls from an umbrella ;)

      • Mary Poppins for optional super boss which is harder than Sephiroth.

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

    i hope Frozen won’t be on KH3

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      its going to be…trust me

      • Jackie

and in musical too -__- just like atlantica

        • ShawnOtakuSomething

Haley Joel Osment has a great singing voice…>_>

          • Rayhan PromisedGallery

wonder how deep his voice will be in KH3. Hearing his voice in KH1 Sora’s body in DDD and Re:com is gettin blegh

          • Steven Higgins

Same as it was in KH II. He’s in his 20s, it’s not going to change any more

          • Jackie

i didnt mean soras singing voice. its just pressing the buttons is a bit irratating.. <_<

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

    • James Reilly

Considering how insanely popular the movie is in Japan and the development team specifically mentioned Frozen in an earlier interview I wouldn’t bet against it.

    • César H. Sandoval

It’s even in “Once Upon a Time”, Frozen is Disney’s bign modern success, so I’d hope it to be in KH in some form.

    • KanjiLikesBoys

So long as Elsa is a party member and doesn’t make us play Icey Fun I’d be down to have a magical snow witch with us

      • Learii

ya and skate on ice lol

      • Steven Higgins

Since they try to stick mostly to the movie’s plot, we’ll likely have Anna as our Arendelle party member.

    • Ducked

It is going to be in kingdom hearts 3. Tai Yasue basically confirmed it already. Your survive.

  • What about FFXV, yeesh

    • iron_maw84

What about FFXV? That game has full staff.

  • Ric Vazquez

Hire me for the third position SE! *wishful thinking*

  • KanjiLikesBoys

I’m glad they don’t feel ashamed to publically ask for help but how long have they been working on this? I wish they’d ask for it sooner

    • iron_maw84

Eh what shame? Hiring ad for big projects like this are actually pretty common in the industry.

      • KanjiLikesBoys

Shame that this game that’s been in develpment for3 years or so still has no release date or window and nothing has been seen of it since that disney ride trailer from last year

  • Ducked

I can’t wait for Frozen in kingdom hearts 3!

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      ….Let it go~~

    • KanjiLikesBoys

why is everyone talking about Frozen? Was there a leak showing a casting for Frozen characters?

      • Ducked

Co-Director Tai Yasue mentioned Frozen appearing in kingdom hearts 3 in two interviews since June.

        • KanjiLikesBoys

      • komiko12

It is the most recent Disney princess film that made a long lasting impact, it would be wasted opportunity to not include her.

Besides she has very powerful abilities and could definitely be useful in a fight.

      • Steven Higgins

No But there are TONS of fans in Japan including the co-directer who has expressed a WISH for it to appear, Plus it made over 200m at the JP box office so I;m sure they’re going to try to ride the hype train. If it doesn’t appear the only reason would be because Disney said no, which is highly unlikely given it’s popularity.

no. how about bring in Marvel to Kingdom Hearts! MR COULSON FOR KINGDOM HEARTS 3

      • Ducked

Marvel and Star Wars doesn’t feel Disney, because it’s not.

  • GigaGaia

I can fix your problem SE. Get all the KH3 staff to FF15 since FF15 is obviously coming first, then take all the staff back on KH3.

  • HerveS94

When will this beautiful childhood game of mine come to ps4

    • Ksatmata
