Ex-PixelJunk Dev’s Quirky Puzzle Adventure Nova-111 Is Coming To PS4 And Vita

Remember Funktronic Labs’s head scratching, time-traveling puzzle adventure Nova-111? It was announced back in February of this year for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Well, here’s some more good news: it’s also coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita next year.

Curve Studios – of Stealth Inc. fame – announced that it’s handling the PlayStation ports for Funktronic over on the PlayStation blog, so it’s in good hands. More good news: it’ll be a Cross Buy title  when it lands on the PlayStation store next year.

If you don’t remember Nova-111, or just don’t know what it is, here’s a summation: you play a science-vessel searching for missing scientists on foreign planets. There alien creatures that chase you and puzzles to solve.

The quirky bit is the game’s blend of real-time and turn-based action. You move around as if playing a turn-based roguelike (on a grid, enemies move when you do), but you can escape the confines of that time by pausing and speeding it up to outwit your enemies.

If that sounds too confusing, maybe you can place faith in its creator, Funktronic Labs. It’s a new studio founded by Eddie Lee, who previously worked at Q-Games on the PixelJunk series. Hopefully he’s brought some of that quality over to Nova-111.

There’s more information on Nova-111 over on its website. Check out the trailer at the top of this article to get a clearer idea of how the game plays, too.
