Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia recently announced the second major update for Freedom Wars, which will add some features like PvP that fans have been looking forward to.

The two main features that will be added in the Ver. 1.20 update are the PvP and Ideology Fights. Up to 8 players can participate in the online PvP, with the addition of their Accessory partners, making it a total of 16 characters per PvP session.

In the Ideology Fights, an “Ideology opposition structure” will be presented, and it sounds like racking up “Amnesty Points” will be a main focus in this feature. More details on it will be revealed soon, when the update goes live sometime in October.

Freedom Wars will release in North America on October 28, 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

Saving up money until Oct. 28 is going to be challenging…but on the upside it’s $30.

Plus, I can’t wait to try out these new modes soon.

    • Se7enSword

At least you can play around.

I’ll have exams on the 1st week of December.

  • charles

Holy, I’m actually more excited for this game to come out! I like that they’re updating the game, instead of releasing a updated paid version! I cant wait for October 28th. Too many games coming out that i want now. I might have to put away about $300 for games haha.

  • Zazon Zenzy

It’ll be the first hunting game to have a legit PvP. Let’s see how it’ll go.

Honestly, flinging each other after beating down the boss in MH is a ton of fun, already.

    • tubers

Now if they can make you ride abductors in the sequel we have quite an evolution of MP-JARPG for handhelds.. or a pocketable Lost Planet :P

Then again, VITA has PSO2 (JPN) and that already seems to have some sort of mech you can ride.

  • Prinnydoom

I am curious did they ever fix the balancing problem? I.e. The whole enemies being able to one shot you regularly.

    • charles

Yup, a while ago actually haha. I really want to try it without the fix though. Just to rage at failure ya know.

      • Somerandomperson

It’s actually not so hard before this “fix” this,I managed to clear within three days after game launched. Making good use of buffs and defense/offense modules along with ranged accessory support was important. People just couldn’t bother using the weapon/module plants.

        • ishyg

“People just couldn’t bother using the weapon, module plants.”

Because they were G-ranked hunters. Ha!

Thanks for the information. Can’t wait for this game.

    • Somerandomperson

That wasn’t a balance problem, it’s just players didn’t make good use of the defense up modules In game.

  • Smooosh

I haven’t heard a lot of good things about Freedom Wars. A terribly executed story (which would be a shame since the premise sounds really cool), really small enemy variety with cheap moves, only a few maps, bad RNG-based crafting/upgrade system and the game is supposedly really short too.

Aside from the small map and enemy variety, which sadly seems to be a fact, I obviously can’t confirm that so I will wait for the game to come out first before I properly judge it, but I have to say that I’m not that excited for this game anymore. Seems like they took the style over substance approach from what I’ve heard so far, but like I said, I can see for myself when it comes out.

It’s nice to see that they’re releasing new content via updates though instead of immediately working on Freedom Wars Extreme or whatever they would call it.

    • charles

Damn, this actually makes me sad haha. This is genuinely the first bad thing i’ve hear of the game. Lets hope it ain’t or the release more content before we get it.

    • Kayseur

I can only confirm the story being cheap. Characters are kind of horribly stereotyped / presented. As for the rest, well the gameplay (itself, as in, movements, action, killing the big ennemies) is good.
Apparently one of the older patch fixed (or tried to) the game’s biggest problem, its balancement. So it might not be the marvelous game we’re waiting for, but if you go in without expecting too much you’re probably going to have a nice time. Especially thanks to those update: even if the story ends up being short (never finished it), PvP adds replay value and so does the online — two modes that weren’t in the original game.

    • Wtv

Story is not really important in these kind of games, though. God Eater had a stupid plot and I heard people saying that Toukiden had bad story too (I thought it was charming enough in the demo, but anyway).

Soul Sacrifice had good lore, but it was all variations of more well knows stories.

      • Lastlight

        Stories will never be original
That’s what makes them good. (I can’t explain it really but it works)
*I’m studying the idea of mono myth -_-*

        • Wtv

True, but when you base something in another thing already existent, it’s even easier, since you don’t even need to mask it to avoid comparasion. You just add a twist to not make it exactly equal.

      • Smooosh

I know, it’s just that the premise sounded really interesting so I can’t help but feel like they are wasting a lot of potential if it really is true.

        • Wtv

I never trust that this kind of style will have a good plot, to tell the truth.

It’s already rule of cool to the max.

It can, though, have fun plot and fun characters even being cliched. But the problem is that when you try to be serious, that becomes something hard to do.

Like I said, Toukiden characters looked charming even though I saw nothing of the plot, it didn’t bother me. Those first scenes from God Eater were ridiculous, though, and the game would be better without it.

So sometimes no plot or simpler plot are better.

      • ishyg

“Story is not really important in these kind of games”

        MH can attest to that.

      • Vash bane

aww :( I liked the story in GeB it really hit me (GE2 on the other hand…well..)

    • subsamuel01

All I’ve heard is great things from people, especially major gaming sites like IGN. Besides the initial technical issues with the game all I’ve heard is good things. I’m sure the game will be a lot more polished when its released in the west.

      • tubers

Because IGN doesn’t know they’re facing these yet:

“really small enemy variety with cheap moves, only a few maps, bad RNG-based crafting/upgrade system”

All they’ve done is a couple of hours testing some demo/build.

        • Boldmonk

The map is huge for a portable device. Monster hunter maps are larger but separated into sections while in Freedom Wars it is seemless. Once you are in, there is no loading.

          • tubers

Not too bad. Just wish it loaded better. I watched a stream and roughly timed a map, it took 30 seconds. At least this game allows you to skip back into base (no 20-40 second loading like other hunting games) after doing the field objectives.

I wish someone would make comparisons with at least the maps of the 1st GE. Maybe it’s not too few.

    • tubers

Well, just wait for the tail end of 2014 or Q1 2015 :P They might hint the G/Delta/Ace/Kiwami version around then :P

    • “… I obviously can’t confirm that so I will wait for the game to come out first before I properly judge it,… ”

Thumbs up just for that. That’s an attitude WAY MORE gamers should have.

  • Prinny Dood

    Cant wait dood!

  • WhyWai

Is this game flopped in Japan? I haven’t heard of anything of this game since it’s released.

    • Hexodious

Monster Hunter-type of games barely flop in Japan, I only heard upgrading stuff is somewhat awful in Freedom Wars, well and the story that’s feels rushed but that’s the least of Japan’s worries because they don’t really give a shit about story in these type of games.

      • Well we should be happy it at least has a STORY at all! XD

  • Rabbit

My question is if I can have a party of friends in PvP. Like 4 of my friends up against, well, I don’t really care who. I just want to play with my bros, Freedom Wars, I just want to play with my bros.

    • Probably, don’t see a reason why it should not happen :3

  • Vash bane

    *squints eyes*

that release date …. is like….few days after another game I’m interested in

-_- 3 games in the same release period … sigh well wallet my old friend seems we are going to have our work cut out for us.

on topic I haven’t really been up to date about this game but question does this game have sniper rifles (you all should know where I’m going with this…it’s one of the reasons why I quitted shooters and never returned to them)?

silly reason I know lol but wouldn’t it be funny if freedom wars got an ultimate version too?

    • planetofthemage

IIRC, it has snipers (or at least a few burst fire guns have scopes), but the fields are close quarters-ey enough that there’s not really an issue with them (except maybe the desert field — but that’s kind of a rocket-missile free for all, as far as I’ve seen.)

  • HassanJamal

8 vs 8 MP on ps vita, think this is the first MP game with that amount of players, very interesting stuff.

  • YES YES!

  • Arthur James Prasetyo

would they release this game in english on reg 3?
