One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X Goes All Out With The Character Roster

By Spencer . September 29, 2014 . 12:06am

Ganbarion has made tons of One Piece games. All of them have the usual suspects from the Straw Hat crew -  Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, and so forth. One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X digs deep into the One Piece world and pulls out characters like Kin’emon riding Momonosuke (!) and Lucy.

Fighters can also do combination attacks and a new attack where you swap characters mid-combo. One Piece: Super Grand Battle X comes out on November 13 in Japan.

God dang, too bad it’ll never come to the states, cause man does this look fun!

    • E.T.993

      Probably be digital only.

      • Slayven19

If it comes here I doubt it, one piece unlimited world red wasn’t digital.

        • Tijani Palmer

But it was, you could only get the limited edition at Game stops and that sold quick.

    • Princess_Eevee9

      Not with that attitude.

  • I always knew Luffy was supposed to be tone deaf, but I never imagined that his VA would actually be that bad at singing. Doesn’t really matter, though, because that is one awesome trailer. One Piece isn’t nearly finished and they’re pulling tons of characters from all over the place, even from movies. It’s even better since it’s obvious that’s not Luffy’s Lucy. That’s you-know-who. It just makes me more excited to watch the anime seeing as he was only recently revealed in the anime.

    • British_Otaku

Mayumi Tanaka has better performed insert songs performed as the character and presumably in other roles, but I appreciate that I feel that this was sung by Luffy in some sense, A few of the Bleach Beat Collection songs felt like the voice actor was there and putting their heart into it (or not) but there was next to no sense of the original character in either the lines or performance.

Who isn’t hyped for Lucy whether it is Luffy, you-know-who or Lucy Fire?

      • I figured that would be the case. I actually think that’s a sign of real talent right there, being able to sing in the various roles she plays and even making it sound like she’s just as tone deaf as the character when she’s really a good or decent singer. I wouldn’t know if Mayumi’s any good. I don’t recall any of her other performances.

  • Based Ignacio Puppo

Looks just like Dragon Ball Kai Butoden(The style they are using for graphics I mean). Godammit Nintendo, why did you have to make the 3DS region locked, and even the new 3DS is gonna be region locked. Part of what made the DS so awesome was that it was region free, I could get my Kamen Rider games, or Jump! Ultimate Stars hassle free.

    • British_Otaku

Yeah, they made a call to go for slightly chibi 3D models as it will be easier to create a huge library of characters and costume flexibility in both cases (PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON THE DLC, PLEASE!). Looking similar to an awesome game is cool too.

Shame you’ll have to miss out in November, since I wouldn’t mind having more English speaking players of things like Ultimate Butoden and Ultimate Stars to face but with any luck, this will get localised worldwide but lacking this opening song (they’ll replace it with a generic rock song) and all of the other opening songs (Wake Up, We Are, We Go!)

Region Locking: “No thanks, we don’t want your money!”

    • AuraGuyChris

Of course people tend to focus on the negative side of this issue the most.

      • NeptuniasBeard

It’s not even like we never get One Piece games either. Hell, we got Unlimited world red a couple months back. I wouldn’t be surprised if this got brought over too

        • JonathanisPrimus

UWR was on PS3/Vita/3DS/Wii U, though. This game is currently 3DS exclusive.

          • vipo

just like UWR before the patched version/port

          • Slayven19

So was Unlimited red before the ps3 version and that other one piece game romanace dawn was 3ds only and we still got that.

          • JonathanisPrimus

Actually, Romance Dawn debuted on PSP. That version wasn’t localized, though. With that said, you have reminded me that 3DS currently has 3 One Piece games and none are exclusives. Maybe SGB will join them?

      • Highasthesky

        So what are the positives?

        • AuraGuyChris

The money rate is different in each country in such a way that you might be richer in another country than in your homeland. Although this sounds convenient for you, it’s inconvenient for your nation because it will lose that money.

In the end, it screws up the economy. There was an example of region locking games for Persona 4 Arena, which was the only game in the PS3/Xbox 360 to be region locked because of a situation like this.

Sure, sure, you give support to foreign companies that you want their product, but that’s convenient for them because they do get your money directly to them instead of spending it in their native nations. There’s a huge reason why most people from Mexico living near the border would rather buy cheaper products in the US, and I know that situation very well.

          • Highasthesky

Alright, fair point. I don’t like it ,and if the 3DS was to ever become region-free i would be importing all the time, but fair point.

          • British_Otaku

So why are isn’t every specific region locked off so Brazil pays their “taxes” for a PS4: http://www.destructoid.com/playstation-4-will-cost-1-850-in-brazil-263741.phtml

Persona 4 Arena doesn’t make much sense either, focusing on that game alone.

            1) Released in Japan FIRST but it is too expensive to be a reasonable import for American or European importers in any large numbers even with dual audio.
            2) Japanese people who want a cheaper American copy could get a cheaper Japanese copy as the American version would have a markup and shipping costs. It wouldn’t be hard for anyone “sensible” enough to import to borrow a copy from a friend, share a copy, buy a second hand copy and such as it released weeks in advance for Japan.
            3) European gamers weren’t likely to import the game in spades, but now they built a massive amount of hatred (some people just ignored the game) towards anyone localising the brand or related games just from the wait and no chance of an import.

There isn’t any real benefit. I don’t know the specifics on people buying stuff in Mexico, but if they can’t sort out prices and release dates for an international market where anyone can google prices. They have failed and even specific people who travelled with their PS3 or imported a PS3 were suddenly unable to buy a local copy for no good reason.

          • triablos

Every other game company doesn’t do region lock (except a few like P4U) and people are still alive

I don’t the negatives are anything of too much worry

          • AuraGuyChris

Of course, because the negatives have a very slow speed within a small time until it escalates.

          • triablos

The only people that import are when a game doesn’t come over or if they are big fans usually. The amount of importers is probably so small it doesn’t even matter. I mean, out of all the people crying over Nintendo’s region lock, who ACTUALLY imports games? A lot just moan for the sake of it and there’s a vocal minority who genuinely care.

I only care about region lock because of MH4.

  • Namuro

This looks great! Can’t wait to find out all the combination attacks in the game!

  • kliskur

Damn.. This bring back memories of Grand Battle 2 in Psx.. Good times.. Great game

  • OrangeArmy

Poor Jesus Burgess doesn’t get a sweet intro, just the occasional clip of him getting his ass kicked, lol.

  • Princess_Eevee9

Oh my gawd Luffy is tone deaf my ears.

    So hype for this game!

  • GreatKino

I’m way more excited for this than Pirate Warriors 3. .

    • Slayven19

Me too, but don’t get me wrong I want that as well.

    • KidKojack

Hey now. PW3 looks fun, too. :)

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery
    • Göran Isacson

I keep hoping we get a pic of him shirtless soon… because I want to see HIS scars because dagnabit Aokiji got burn covering half his torso and lost a leg, Akainu BETTER have some stinging reminders of that fight too goshdarnit.

      • Rayhan PromisedGallery

        he got…. a cold

  • fairysun

That combination attack of the three brothers!

  • Quan Chi

I hate when they change intro songs into sucky songs. Just like this. And attack on titan.

  • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

This game just makes me missed Jump Ultimate Stars here.T_T

Considering how One Piece have been keep coming here and of course Unlimited RED being quite a good game.(I like HANCOCK!!!!)

I am going to get ready for this game.^_^

  • MaidKillua

This looks great, i’m REALLY hoping for a localisation.

  • Cephrien

    2:35
Do you people even realize what just happened

    • James Robert Thompson

I screamed like a little girl at the one! Way too cool!

  • Blati. Boyu.

This look WAY better than Smash Bros.

    • triablos

      Careful buddy

  • subsamuel01

Looks great hope it gets localized, still waiting for the day they make a 3D One Piece fighting game on consoles like Naruto and Dragonball.

    • Harvey Tejada Loto

what about OP pirate warriors 3

    • GH56734

It’s in a sense the third sequel in the One Piece Gigant Battle series, the Jump Super Star-like series by Ganbarion/Namco Bandai.
The first one got a late Europe-only localization and bombed, hence why they didn’t even bother to localize the second.

    • GH56734

And, your dream 3D fighting game crossover with OP/Naruto/Dragon Ball exists as Battle Stadium D.O.N for PS2/GC, It’s very Brawl-like but with a gameplay twist.
J-Stars Victory VS has those three series and much more, but it’s somewhat lacking in gameplay.

  • KidKojack

I hope to gt my hands on this!

  • Göran Isacson

… OOOooh, THAT Lucy. I raised an eyebrow there at first, but this? I am okay with this. Carry on.

  • Lifestreamer

Damn, I could talk all day about this trailer, but only the fact that they gave Hancock…

    – Chun Li’s “Senretsu Kyaku”.
    – Andy Bogard’s “Chou Reppadan”.
    – and Yuri Sakazaki’s “Hien Senpuu Kyaku”

Just leave me speechless, what a game! 100% buy for me.
