Nintendo of America will discontinue certain Amiibo figurines once their initial shipments have sold through, the company confirmed to Wired this week.
“We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link,” Nintendo said in a statement to Wired. “Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”

Original story continued: Certain Amiibo figurines like Marth and Wii Fit Trainer are already scarce at retail. In addition, the Gamecube Adapter for the Wii U appears to be in extremely short supply as well, and is now going for over $100 on eBay. Nintendo did not comment on the adapter issue, though.
Given that the company will be phasing the less popular Amiibo figurines out once they’ve had their initial day in the sun, you might want to figure out which of the Amiibo figurines from the third batch you want to buy and jump on them when they release in February. I suspect Shulk (exclusive to GameStop) and Ike won’t last long.
