It’s Time To Duel In Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Tag Force Special

By Spencer . January 6, 2015 . 12:35am

A new video of Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Tag Force Special from V-Jump shows what happens when it’s time to duel. The PSP game brings together characters from man different Yu-Gi-Oh series including Yugi from Duel Masters together for one massive card battling game.

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Tag Force Special will be available on January 22 as a PlayStation Network download in Japan for 3,000 yen.

Does Yami have a different Japanese VA than in the anime? I can’t hear the same voice on here O_O

Too bad this game has no 3D Models or atleast other scenes than the eye shots. Really would love to get more in return.

DS/PSP Era was the best when it came to the Yu-Gi-Oh francishe.

    • YEP.

This is actually a funny (to me) story, but basically Atem/Yami Yugi’s old VA, Shunsuke Kazama, is pretty much retired now from anime stuff, from what I’ve gathered, and his sponsoring/managerial company (Johnny & Associates, Inc.) that controls his contracts are reportedly difficult to work with. Like, stubborn mule level difficult. In fact, this is likely pretty much the /main/ reason we don’t get official subbed stuff of the DM anime over here– nowhere in his contract covers international releases, and they can’t renegotiate it.

In Duel Terminal, they’ve been using a new VA to get around this problem, since Kazuma isn’t available for voicing new lines, which is quite apparently who is also being used for Tag Force Special. This is actually very interesting and telling of the situation, too, since usually Japanese media /hates/ replacing VAs unless if there’s a good reason to do so.

Who was in BBT and what’s going to happen with the new movie?

        • Nightstar1994

In BBT it was still Shunsuke Kazama. I’ve checked it and he sounded same to the anime.

Damn, there wasn’t a single game with his voice, and when I thought we’d finally get one :|

          • Actually it’s funny, but looking it up on the Japanese Wiki, apparently he had voice clips in the two weird RPG games, Sacred Cards and Reshef of Destruction, in Japan. I dunno if this is a legitimate claim though, but it’s impressive if it’s the case, since those were GBA games.

          • Reshef of Destruction has voice clips for Yami Yugi in the english version, at the very least. It’s literally just for small things like “my turn” or summoning special monsters.
I bet it’s similar in the japanese version.

          • Oh, really? That’s likely it, then. So yeah, we technically did have games with Kazuma’s voice in it, but just little things. XD

          • GH56734

They could have repurposed the anime dub for those small lines btw.

        • Kazuma did Bonds Beyond Time, because it was right before he left anime stuff entirely (he did From Up on Poppy Hill the year after in 2011, while Bonds Beyond Time was 2010, and has done nothing else since in terms of anime. in fact, his entire Anime life, from what I can find, was Yugi/Atem and Poppy Hill. Astounding. He’s super active in live Dramas though.), but I doubt he’s gonna be in the new movie, unless if NAS (the studio behind the Yu-Gi-Oh! series) somehow manages to pull some major strings.

It’s one of my current theories that they might actually be using the remastered DM release that’s gonna be airing in Japan to revoice Yugi/Atem’s lines so International release is possible, but it depends on how much money NAS wants to invest in the show.

    • Doing a secondary reply to here since I now see your edits, and this would be better in a second thread line anyway.

The main reason this game has no 3D models or the sort is likely due to bloat. This is pretty much the most “complete” game so far in terms of card count, and as much as the extras are cool… the sad fact is the PSP/DS games, as time went on, would slow down intensely due to the number of cards the game has to keep track of, and rulings, and AI.

Let’s just say that if I was developing a game and had to cut something out, especially on an evident “testing the waters” budget, 3D animations would definitely be the first thing I’d axe.

  • JonathanisPrimus

Yugi from Duel Masters? Spencer, please.

    • I think this is the trend now with Yu-Gi-Oh on Siliconera. Always gotta get one detail wrong. XD

      • JonathanisPrimus

I’m surprised there’s been no modern Duel Masters video game. I mean stuff like Battle Spirits, Vanguard and Buddyfight have games on PSP and 3DS.

        • It might be because there’s no anime of it running right now. There’s a manga, but that’s about it.

          • JonathanisPrimus

Duel Masters Versus is still running new episodes. There’s yet to be a DM game with Katta.

        • I miss Duel Masters GBA games. They look horrible and are pretty unprofessional but the actual card game was very very fun. And Im not the type to buy cards so I prefer them in videogame format

        • Renaldi Saputra

Maybe Duel Master is discontinued now

Stuffs like Battle Spirits is still popular in Japan but not outside japan

Duel Master isn’t popular anymore on both

  • Mexikado

“characters from man different Yu-Gi-Oh series”

    • Wow I missed that one too. Only shows how much care is given to Yu-Gi-Oh articles, huh?

  • I guess this will be my first exposure to XYZ Summons and Pendulum Summoning. I’m still trying to catch up with all the crazy new mechanics… only played the old World Championship games.

  • Aesma

Hoo… It has Stardust Warrior, impressive.

…now here’s hoping that the ‘secondary’ and ‘additional’ characters from Tag Force will appear… It’ll be boring if you can only duel story characters…

    • Tashunu

Based on last week’s article, there will be over 190 different characters to duel. Even if its something 10 or 20 story characters with each main character, that leaves room for at least 90 original tag force duelists.

      • Aesma

That’s a good news, thank you.

  • Raine

Silly Spencer, everyone knows that’s Kirifuda Shobu, not Yugi Moto.

  • Dylan Anantha

I really hope we get this, the last World Championship game was in 2011, we didn’t get Tag Force 6, and Duel Carnival was incredibly mediocre (due to it being much simpler than the previous WC games and the first half of Zexal being the incredibly bland like the first two seasons of GX)

  • Blaz

12:35 am. You either came back from a hangover, or you’re sleepy as hell. But dem typos bro…

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

I used to like Yu-Gi-Oh until I played Hearthstone.

    • Harry Potter

      that game is EW

  • CureMarine

I’m so excited for this game. It looks like it’s gonna be a lot of fun, even if it did get an english release that’d just mean no proper voices (even if they dubbed it, that wouldn’t be “proper” voices, I don’t know who would want those voices anyway, other then “muh nostalgia!!” ) since I doubt they’d keep the Japanese voices. Either way, super excited! I’ve been thinking for a long time and I’m going to partner with Shark first for sure.

    • Spirit Macardi

I’d want those voices again because Dan Green’s Yami voice is awesome x3

  • Renaldi Saputra

    >Yugi from Duel Masters

    Siliconera pls…

    • pokeslob

  • dunia01

    Spencer, go home. Ur drunk.

  • 9breaker

Yugioh arc v featuring yugi from duel masters.

  • Harry Potter

i laugh like 5 sec thanks siliconera

  • Lynn

I know the author confused Duel Masters for Duel Monsters, but he did a better job than that asshole on hardcoregamer.

Spencer, you’re cool. Thanks for the heads up!

    • Wow I read it and I’m like. “Outdated mechanics”? Where? This is the most up-to-date game we’ll get for quite a while!

      • Lynn

I tried to correct him on that, and how it’s coming out for the PSP but will be available for download on Vita, but he didn’t seem to approve the comment.

I guess he just hates the PSP.

        • Either that or he doesn’t like being corrected. His loss on the point.

  • Drev

    what about multiplayer online??

    • Since it’s a PSP title first and foremost, they have multiplayer, but it’s local/ad hoc.

I know there’s ways out there to trick ad hoc into being online though, but I’m not sure what it is. Still an improvement over WDC’s lack of multiplayer though.

  • Pandakids09 .

That good PSP i still getting some love in Japan but wish this would have been on both systems
