Software Sales In Japan Were Down Once Again This Christmas

Recommended Videos

Christmas week in Japan saw software sales of 1,517,000 units. That’s 79.45% compared to sales during Christmas week in 2013, according to Japanese sales tracker Media Create.

Sales were even lower when you compare the figures to 2011 and 2012, Media Crate said in their latest report. 2012 saw 1,701,000 units of software sold during Christmas week, while 2011 saw 1,621,000 units of software sold.

In particular, Media Create says, PlayStation platforms accounted for a large portion of the decrease in software sales. Both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita lacked major releases this year, which led to a large decrease in PlayStation software during Christmas, reaching only 41.30% compared to 2013 and 59.56% compared to 2012.

In terms of software that did contribute to sales during the year-end season, Media Create say that all three versions of Yo-kai Watch 2 have sold a combined total of 5.079 million units. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has sold 2.34 million, while Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has sold 2 million.
