Collect Tainted Souls For The Devil In This Strange Upcoming RPG

Where They Cremate the Roadkill is an upcoming exploration-based action RPG from collagist and game creator John Clowder. It’s currently on Kickstarter where the team is raising money in order to finish work on the game.

You play as a spirit that has the job of collecting souls for the devil. This involves travelling between three different dimensions and three different bodies in order to hunt hundreds of characters. The idea is to kill the body hosting each tainted soul but the problem is that combat is illegal in the game’s world.

This means you can’t just start a typical RPG battle anywhere, you need to sneak into back alleys, or trap your victim in their house. If you get spotted, you could be hunted, arrested, and killed. This might involve police barricading save points and half-monster swat teams invading your home.

Combat in the game uses spells, but they’re not your typical range of magic, these spells are much more goofy and fun than that. Clowder gives an example of some of them:

“Conjure schools of fish out of solid ground. Summon cats into the house of a person with allergies to defeat them. Turn bovines into burger meat with a flick of the wrist. Bring to life an army of inanimate objects. Create havoc by casting love spells on train commuters and turn someone’s pet dog inside out.”

There are hundreds of different spells and you can carry as many of them around with you as you want. However, the ones you use regularly get stronger, while the ones you don’t use will become useless as they weaken.

It should also be noted that you’re never forced to do anything in Where They Cremate the Roadkill. You can spend your time hunting souls, or you can simply explore the strange collage world that Clowder has created, and you could do that for hours and still find secrets.

If you like what you see here, check out Clowder’s other RPGs, which are free to download. His first one was Middens and his second one is called Gingiva. Where They Cremate the Roadkill will be his third.
