Fighting, Making Money, And Exploring In Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae

Recommended Videos

Fans have just a little longer to wait until they can get their hands on the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo, which releases alongside Final Fantasy Type-0 HD next week. In the meantime, Famitsu and Dengeki have provided a look at some of their playthrough of the demo.

The footage starts out with Ignis saying that they still got a while to go until they get the amount of money they need to fix the Royal Car. Gladiolus suggests that they could go hunting after the rumored Behemoth in the area. Prompto adds that the Behemoth horn actually fetches a nice sum of money, but wonders if they’d be able to take it out on their own. However, Noctis says if they don’t do anything, they won’t be able to get the car back.

Gladiolus wonders if the repairs are going fine, but Prompto seems to trust Cidney and says that it’s okay, since she did give them her word and all.

Next, they show a little more action, as Noctis and friends fight small enemies. As it turns out, they end up going against one that’s tougher than the others, so they decide to make a run for it, but it doesn’t take long for them to find footprints of a Smoke Eye (Behemoth).

At 2:13, we get a look at how the group advances through the objective, as the map shows where they have to go next. While they were about to go find themselves a nice Behemoth to hunt down, they get ambushed by the imperial soldiers, and Famitsu says they’re pretty tough. The video then demonstrates the game’s parry system at the 3:47 mark, where Noctis avoids getting stomped, and follows up with a counter hit. You can see a little more party action in the next scene, where the group is shown fighting a pack of wild beasts.

After the fight, the party comes across a strange sign, which marks the start of a sub-quest, followed by another that will have them encounter a wild Chocobo. At 6:00, they decide to take a break at a camp site, so they can grab a meal and call it night to get some experience points. We get a look at the Phantom Sword menu, and another camp site at a trailer.

At 7:23, the party finds itself back at the gas station, where Noctis and co. meet up with Cidney. She tells them that repairs are almost done, but Noctis asks if she could wait a little longer for the payment… so they decide to go check out some more Chocobos and do some Duscae Region sightseeing, instead.

Prompto points something to check out at around 9:08, and as it turns out, they found themselves a Phantom Sword, which you can activate when Noctis’ MP is full. They then decide to give it a whirl against the Smoke Eye Behemoth.

While they do their best to fight off the giant beast, even with the Phantom Sword, it proves to be a little too difficult for their current level and skill set, so they decide to go train a little more by fighting a bunch of Goblins in a cave. These guys come in huge numbers, and they’re tougher than they appear, but it looks like a good way to gain experience points for the next big fight.

The above is a look at Dengeki’s playthrough of the Episode Duscae demo. While we already got a look at some key areas and story bits from the previous video, Dengeki’s footage shows a little more exploration. They try going to the Chocobo Post to get a ride, but the shopkeeper says that they’re currently not ready for the time being.

Next up, they show a look at Noctis using all kinds of different moves with various weapons, along with some co-op moves between him and the other party members, followed by more cave exploration and Goblin smiting.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Episode Duscae demo will be available along with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which releases on March 17th in North America and March 20th in Europe.
