Microsoft will not be attending Japan’s Tokyo Game Show games convention this year, the company has announced. Famitsu reports that the Xbox division will not be exhibiting their goods at TGS 2015, but are making other preparations to convey Xbox news to fans.
Microsoft’s Xbox platforms have typically not performed well in Japan for a variety of reasons, and have often served a more niche market. It isn’t very surprising to see Microsoft skipping TGS, as the cost and time involved with erecting a sizeable booth at the event may not make sense.
That having been said, Microsoft are still collaborating with well-known Japanese developers for Xbox One-exclusive titles. PlatinumGames’ next major title, Scalebound, is being developed in collaboration with Microsoft, while Mighty No. 9 creator Keiji Inafune is leading development of ReCore, a game being developed by Armature, the former developers of Metroid Prime. Both games will be showcased by Microsoft at Gamescom this year.
TGS 2015 will take place from September 19th – 20th, and will be held at the event’s usual Makuhari Messe venue in Chiba.
