Look forward to playing Super Mario Bros. stages as Bowser, Link, and maybe even Mega Man. Nintendo shared an extended Super Mario Maker video which notes the Wii U game is compatible with more than 50 amiibo.
Scanning certain amiibo allows level creators to place a Mystery Mushroom, which transforms Mario into another character like Link. Players who do not have the rare Wii Fit Trainer amiibo can still play a stage as Wii Fit Trainer by downloading a stage created by another player that added a Wii Fit Trainer Mystery Mushroom to their stage. It’s unclear if all of the amiibo shown will unlock Mystery Mushrooms, but if the Sonic the Hedgehog amiibo makes a Mystery Mushroom I’m looking forward to someone creating Somari with Super Mario Maker.
Players can also create custom sound effects in Super Mario Maker. Sound effects are triggered when players touch a certain spot in a level and with creative placement you can add music like the Mario Paint theme into a Super Mario Bros. level .
Super Mario Maker comes out on September 11 for Wii U.
