One of the coolest features of a Japanese 3DS is the Collectible Badge Center. People can play virtual grabbers to get special icons and shortcuts to decorate their systems’ home screens. This costs money, of course. ¥90 for five tries on a machine, to be exact. But when new collections are added, something special happens.
Today is a good example, since the Collectible Badge Center updated. The sales rabbit shows up to introduce all of the new collections. In today’s case, the newest highlight is a series of retro Kirby badges. There are six machines with images of characters and items from the series. One new Animal Crossing: New Leaf, two new Tomodachi Life, and six new retro Super Mario machines also appeared. The rabbit ended his tirade with an explanation on how grabbers with a bomb instead of a claw help you try and trigger an explosion that sends badges flying.
The sales rabbit ends his announcements by awarding a Collectible Badge Center visitor two free tries on any one machine and taking them to the machines. Moving left and right with the directional button lets you choose which machine you want to use the plays on, and they will work with any machine. (Going with one of the Kirby machines may provide flashbacks to Crane Fever from Kirby’s Adventure.
After getting the free tries, the next course of action is to try and win more tries at the Collectible Badge Center’s practice machine. You get five tries on it every day, in the hopes of winning tries on a machine. You get a point for each item grabbed there and when you get ten, you get one free try. However, sometimes an item you grab may have a bullseye on it, giving you one or three free tries.
In addition to the new machines listed above, there are Splatoon, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, and Kirby menu shortcut machines now available in the Collectible Badge Center.
