This year, Hit-Point’s Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector took Apple iOS and Android device owners by storm. It’s a Japanese app where people put out food and toys to attract cats, then take pictures of them. It recently received an official English translation by 8-4. Now, there’s Boku to Wanko for dog people.
Chronus’ Boku to Wanko is identical to Neko Atsume in terms of how the application works. First, people download the free-to-play program from either iTunes or Google Play. Then, they set out food and some toys for the dogs. After that, you leave the app, wait a few minutes, then return. Dogs will be there engaging in activities, and it’s possible to take pictures for a collector’s album. After visiting, a dog may leave you regular or gold bones, both of which can be used to buy items and food. Gold bones can also be purchased with real money. Certain dogs like specific foods and toys, so someone will have to keep that in mind when collecting.
There are a few differences between Boku to Wanko and Neko Atsume. The advertisements are far more intrusive in the puppy collecting game. Also, some of the animations in Boku to Wanko are nearly identical to the ones in Neko Atsume. This is evident from the beginning, as the first toy ball given to the dogs triggers an animation similar to the yarn in the cat collecting game.
Boku to Wanko is free to play on all Apple iOS and Android devices. It is available on the North American app stores, but the only language option available is Japanese.
