You Must Always Be Online To Play The Last Remnant On Mobile Devices

Last year, Square Enix made it possible for people in Japan to play The Last Remnant on Apple iOS and Android devices via Dive In, a cloud streaming service. People had to pay a subscription fee for a number of days to access the game. Now it’s possible to buy The Last Remnant for mobile devices in Japan, paying a one-time fee for the game.

Both iTunes and Google Play are offering this mobile version of The Last Remnant. Like the Dive In version, they rely on a cloud streaming service to run. Someone must always be connected to the internet to use the G-cluster Global Cloud Technology to play the game. There is no offline option.

The Last Remnant is set in a world where Remnants, unknown artifacts from another time, are used to make life easier. However, people soon fought for control of these items. Each Remnant can become bound to one person, and those that are unbound can spawn monsters. Players initially follow Rush, a young man looking for his kidnapped sister, and can have over a hundred people join him in his quest after leaving his island home.

The Apple iOS and Android versions of The Last Remnant cost ¥2,000. A worldwide release has not been announced.
